  • How did we have so much hype & Hope for a game that failed at delivering on its promises. While the MMO portion of the game seemed promising, the devs have abandoned it, leaving behind a Zenith Lite version, and disappointment.

People complain about subscription based models and also freemium MMOs - but also don't understand why a MMo that doesn't do either fail.

If they started regularly patching Zenith: Nexus I would jump back into the game, but most of my friends have stopped playing and Zenith: Infinite Realms doesn't interest me much and I can't see how Infinite Realms will convince many people to buy the (now) paid DLC. On top of only fixing bugs when they were game-breaking, to me it seems that they never developed a coherent design and new features were just slapped on haphazardly.

    • @Porthos701

If they resumed patching I would jump back in as well. My guild popped in for some nostalgia world boss runs and the gameplay was disappointing. Everyone kept getting punted across the map.

The announcement of infinite realms killed it for me, so i did not even try it. The new movement like railing and jump n run style they went with just didn't appeal to me. They should've focused on the base game and fix all the bugs. I could'nt progress on the main quest two times because of bugs and eventually stopped playing at all. The were also very few people so it felt more like a single player experience anyway. Is there any VR mmo you have high hopes for?

Such a tough situation. I know the game was not a financial success and never achieved the vision that was first offered to us, but I still enjoyed the game very much and I will remember it as one of the best experiences I have had in gaming. My two most played games ever are Orbus and Zenith, so I think I can confirm that VRMMORPGs are by far my favorite genre, even in these very much not AAA games. The frustrating thing is that I seem to either be in a very small minority or just the vast majority of gamers haven't given the genre a chance. Either way, the fact is that great cutting edge VRMMOs will cost many millions to make and there is no evidence that it could possibly make back that budget right now. I worry we are now in a waiting game for all the current kids that have VR to grow into adults and want bigger experiences. That is kind of what happened in video game between 1980 and 2000.

I played like you from alpha through IR. I had a beautiful Guild. Honestly I would play it again (the old Zenith obviously) the problem is that since IR was released the old game is unplayable, broken. Full of bugs. The old Zenith would have been enough for me, without further updates, my beautiful virtual world to enter and do crazy things with my Guild between one boss and another. Unfortunately it is not feasible and I am sure that the old Zenith was broken on purpose..

From the get go, I was always upset at the lack of class options. I didn't like either class until the release of the cyberninja, and I didn't like that class either. Even if the classes seemed much more bland in Ilysia, I was still happy with the level of customization I had to make a character how I wanted playstyle wise.
I don't feel like Geographically, the game was designed well either. The fact that they made a whole new starter zone segregated from the rest of the map was an additional oof. There were so many secondary skills and hobby stuff I wanted to see expanded past the second starting zone, that just never did. TBH, when I think of a perfect MMO in VR at this point, I think of more a Runescape of VR that is focused on crafting and stuff like a much bigger Township Tale but with an actual world and the capability to support more players. No open world house building though, even desktop mmos seem to mess that up. I just want an actual interesting world to explore with friends, but it feels like many VRMMOs are failing the most basic of stuff. The world is uninteresting, they try to add a mediocre mainquest, then abandon it, etc.
VRMMO developers need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel. Make an early 2000's era MMO but in VR and they will be rolling in money. Anything else is extra.

  • @Breno_Lira
    @Breno_Lira 4 месяца назад +4

Their biggest mistake was releasing an unfinished game. When Zenith was launched it was more like a prototype than anything, and they really never finished their MMO. Not enough classes, no player economy, the crafting was very superficial (besides cooking).
I also think that for the current VR player base, keeping a Theme Park MMO alive would require a lot of development effort, and if you don't have any monetization after the initial purchase, how else would you be able to make money out of it?
I think a sandbox MMO with lots of social features would be healthier for a VR MMO, and much easier to keep the game afloat since you wouldn't require so much effort with the constant influx of features and content to keep the players busy.
In any case, I really hope other companies will consider everything that happened to Zenith to avoid the same mistakes. And hopefully what happened to Zenith will not scare other game studios to try to develop a VR MMO...
It's hard to believe that to this day we don't have a good VR MMO

The core gameplay loop of Zenith was boring. The enemies and combat in general was not fun, and there was basically nothing appealing or fun to do with the open world. MMO's require insanely massive budgets with large teams, but the VR market isn't big enough to support it, regardless of the monetization options.

    • @xynonners
      @xynonners 2 месяца назад

also, zenith's monetization model is something no mmo (vr or not) has survived on before anyway

  • @phantomx2003

They had such a good thing going only for them to flush it all down the drain. The way they shifted focus away from the MMO after laying a foundation of what was to come in the MMO has lead me to never put faith in this company again. The VRMMO market is so scarce right now that they could of bee the WOW of the vr world. Such a shame. After the announcement of their new direction I basically said farewell and uninstalled the game. I put a lot of time into Orbus and Zenth and now I'm just waiting for my new home of a VRMMO...

The new player experience is the worst I've ever seen. I wanted to play the mmo so I downloaded and installed Zenith. I was stuck in a small city which told me how to control my character. It didn't tell me how to exit the city. I found a path where I could kill a few enemies and that was it. That was the entire game. Later I found out that when you start the game a second time then you get the option to actually access the mmo instead of infinite realms. This was such a bad experience that I lost any faith in the game having a future so now I have zero interest in playing the mmo anymore. I wasted hours in this stupid city not knowing what to do.

i just started playing a bit of the game. i'm still quite new, so i can't say i understand the whole thing going on, but i will give it my best.
there some stuff i want to make a quick comment on, just to inform people about, so we don't lose this fantastic game!
i got in chat with one of the admins saying:
"Eventually we came to the conclusion that we needed to take a step back and look at what was working and what wasn't. This is what started shaping what IR (infinite reams) became, we opted to try to capture a new audience since the majority players did not want to dedicate the time to an MMO the way we had hoped. The idea behind IR is that it could capture a different kind of player and that would allow us to sustain both games financially."
the games is not done yet, IR is kind of fortnite's battle royal.
it's there to make sure both will get the chance to thrive.
saying: "its dead and a waste of a lot of money" is a shame cause it kills the game, we want to save.
its backed up by this comment from the same guy:
"Players have their reasons and thats fine. The part that I think is more harmful is when some players create hate for IR because they believe that we will fall back to TLC. This is not the case, review bombing and creating a negative atmosphere wont save TLC it will just put us in a place that will make it fail."
all in all a great video, but i wish it could be more positive, cause it's really great!
"For a new player to join TLC there is a ton of content to play etc, but IR is not necessarily meant to be liked by every TLC player. It is meant to capture new players to help save TLC"

I would be more hopeful if they didn't flat out cancle the development of the MMO side of the game. Barring that statement I would still cover a lot of content and just basically tell people to wait until they come out with the next part of the game. However unfortunately because they've decided to stop developing on the MMO version no matter how good it is right now it will never get any better. I have been playing Zenith Nexus since the start, this game was so much fun and entertaining, but at a certain point, it all gets repetitive, kill enemies get reward, repeat. Its like Blox Fruits in a way.
The class customization is great, able to suit your playstyle of choice, but the weapon limitations are very high, If we had a custom weapon builder, with level limitations, that would be way cooler, the only way people can be unique is by choosing the Support class
This game might shut down soon, and the way the game turned around is insane, the bad type, and me, my brother, and my friend all dont like that.
This game is also very laggy, if there was optimizations, that would be amazing, I really want to play with my brother, but he can't even download it for being 8 GB, we were not able to play together because we were on a linked account, and now that we are on seperate accounts now, I want to play with him.
This game might be hopeless, the amount of issues that are there make the game unplayable.
The game feels single player because there are almost no players, and the community makes me feel left out because im Level 9, I really hope this game can be recovered, but maybe not because the production of updates has stopped.
Also, when the player reaches 15, they get lost, thinking that the only way to level up, is by doing raids in the starter area, its terrible, the way it tries to tell the players where to go, its unspecific and unforgiving.
