    I'm a student in training, not because I am in medical school but because I was never explained any of this (as well I only had a CMP test done, I now know I should have had a CBC with differential run as in my first visit I complained about a possible infection. When the CMP came back all I was told was that my glucose level was high + that I should go on Metformin. Dang! Well I'm going to demand a CBC with differential + if they don't give it to me I'll find a doctor who will!

    Thank you! Just one question - is the ALT in the muscles is different than the one mentioned here?

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  3 года назад +1

      There are different forms of ALT ("isozymes") that are found in both the liver and muscles (& other tissues). Elevated ALT (especially when accompanied by elevated AST) usually point to liver injury. Other enzymes/chemicals are used to assess muscle damage (including CPK, LDH and troponin). See: www.healthline.com/health/enzyme-markers

    Respect to you professor Fink, I always watch your lectures, but I have one question regarding the BUN & uric acid you've mention here, are they form in the liver or kidney and are they specifically for kidney function test or liver function test clinically?? thank you

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  6 лет назад

      Urea is formed in the Liver, then released into the bloodstream, & then filtered-out of the bloodstream & excreted in the urine by the Kidneys.

    I just read in my textbook that calcitonin doesn't activate osteoblasts but only slows down the osteoclast activity... (Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology, 11 edition, Martini)

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  6 лет назад +3

      Increasing evidence shows that the 2 most important hormones regulating calcium levels are PTH (Parathyroid Hormone) & Calcitriol (Vit D3). Calcitonin plays only a minor role, primarily inhibiting osteoclast activity (as you pointed out). Our understanding of the physiological mechanisms in the body are continuously being refined through further research.

      NO resource is as good as you, Professor Fink. I am here, just lurking at what I will be covering with you soon, as right now I am studying your pharmacology lectures. I am an English teacher living in Spain and I plan on specializing in working strictly with pharmaceutical companies very soon. (I have had a few hours a week for six years now) Without you it would have been much harder. Believe it or not, I study (and plan on continuing to do so all academic year long) between four and nine hours a day. I waste no minute even on a bus. Yes, I even have audio files of your lectures, as well as a text to voice app that reads to me the notes I made while watching your videos. I additionally do use all those resources you mentioned above, but truly, your channel is a blessing and you are truly the best. Thank you Professor Fink.
