Many people forget that ground is even more important than the positive cable. Newer cats have multiple ground points while older vehicles have 2 points or less. Ground everything with 4 gauge wire.
you need to change your red top to a yellow top if you have like extra lights and stuff. had same problem. red top is just for starting, yellow top is half deep cycle and made to start and maintain extra power draw
Those battery terminals are not the Mil spec units I'd expect in a kit. I prefer the blocky ones that are all soft lead. There is also some conversation about more strands is better in battery cables and that is plain false. There is more resistance in a high strand cable than a lower strand cable of the same gauge. The main benefit of the high strand count is the flex of the cable to route where you want it.
Good, clean grounds are very often overlooked by people when working on vehicles. Usually they don't need replacement... just a cleaning and you can even re-crimp the connectors with great results.
One of the 1st things I did on my XJ.... original cables were toast... . Very easy to install.... super legit 100$ upgrade.... they sell different gage cables too... i went thicker Guage due to running winch, lights and plan on dual battery set up . Thicker gages are best
@germz , no design flaw as they lasted 20 years or more. As the starter and cables get age, they corrode and deteriorate which reduces current flow. If you keep the Jeep in completely stock form then your auto parts store cables are fine. Most of us are putting winches, LED light bars, etc. so larger cables are advantageous. You can make larger better cables for just a little more than replacing with stock units. I hope this clarifies my statement.
From the battery, I have a ground to the starter motor, a ground to the block, a ground to the alternator and a ground to the ac compressor. The battery itself has two 1/0 grounds. I have 2 grounds from the rear head to the fire wall and one in the front. I have 1/0 guage power wire going to 2 sets of amps, another for missalanious, one to the starter, one to the winch and 2 to the alternator!! I even added separate grounds to all the main sensors like the IAC sensor, the MAP sensor, the TPS sensor, etc, etc!
This isn't something I'd do "just because", but if you have to replace the cables anyway, might as well do this. I did a similar upgrade when I went to a higher capacity alternator.
Quick question... will the older 2 door model XJ door panels fit in a 97 2 door model? I have a 97 and the inside door panels are all weird like bubbly and barely holding on... and it's hard to find 2 door XJ models 97 and up
I just installed this in my 1998 Jeep xj. After do that it keeps blowing a 20a fuse in my Jeep causing the engine to turn off. Any idea what this could be? I’d appreciate any help or ideas.
Hm not sure I wonder if one of the wires is snorting out something, which fuse? I want to say maybe double check the alternator wires in case those are wrong.
@@roadkill44mu Hi, yes. Turns out part of the wire harness had fallen down and was resting on part of the manifold, melting some of the wires. Had the mechanic fix the wiring for me. Thanks for asking. 👍🏽
I've heard a lot of good thing about that cable kit. Check out Project H channel. He hates Optimal batteries and he explains some issues with them. Wow, it started fast. I have such a long crank time on my 87 XJ so maybe this is the trick. Thanks.
@@jcjeeps I got a 99 xj sport and been running into some heat issues going up mountains in Costa Rica. Changed water pump stat radiator got aux fan. And finally my mechanic just took it out. But running nice ever since
Better fuel economy isn’t too far fetched, they rich a little on the rich side and if you’re voltage and amperage is low to the ignition it isn’t going to burn as hot as it should
Dude u have a pretty bad jeep but anyways I'm driving right now 98 xj classic about to do the upgrade it just stock right now but the way it goes longer u have some thing the more time u put in it also you were talking about rubitrux I use to work up at the college up there putting windows in and at the time I had a 94 Cherokee country lifted 4.5 and at the time my brakes were alittle spongy but right in front of rubitrux a car pulled out in front of me I had lock down the breaks what I could well make a long story short I had to limp all the way back towards winston with no breaks come to find out the back drums the wheel cylinder blew out when I locked the breaks down and end rebuilding the whole rear drums
@@jcjeeps yea I did when the accident about happen but I was dreading the whole drive back home everything leaked out drivers side drum was soaked it was clear driving back home but driving up it was snowing sideways
The military style terminals are awesome, no corrosion on mine after months of use. Also no more chasing weird ground issues

Good to know I have had my red top for a while now may have to upgrade soon!
I don't think it matters. I have not been the least bit impressed with Optima batteries.

Yes it is an almost necessary upgrade on XJ'S. I've got 2 videos on making 2 and 4 gauge cables. Great video and looks like Awesome quality

The battery temp sensor, if bad or unhooked can cause your alternator to shut down and not charge.just an FYI that is over looked on the jeeps
I did this to mine almost two years ago. It’s a upgrade that 100% needs to be done.
How long did it take to arrive
2 weeks
Those factory wires look like the size of spaghetti noodles compared to the new ones...lol.....
Good kit just did it after watching this video
Makes total sense , think of it like water , if your garden hose is dirty water cant flow properly.

300 5 star reviews can't be wrong
If you have several upgrades that pull amps, you absolutely need a big 3+ in any vehicle.
Dielectric grease, put it on everything. It attracts dust but stops corrosion and oxidation.

Saweeet! (Cost?) ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Do u know if they makes these upgrade cables for a 07 jgc wk 3.7 v6?
Did this back in the day on my XJ. Would love to have had a kit. But a must do for sure the factory cables are trash

I have a 93 jeep cherokee country aka xj going down the road and out of know were jeep cuts off you happen to know what it would be?
Sounds like a crank position sensor
Hey what is the tyre spec you got there ? Looks cool and the lift ?
37/12.50/17 with 5.5in lift

It’s number 11 inside the Jeep starting from top left side working down. Also thanks, I’ll check the alternator wires. 👍🏽

What did you do with the starter connector? The stock molded thing
I cut the main off the mold and attached it without it, then I just attached the new cable
