    This is perfect! I moved in to be my mom's remodeler/caregiver and her handyman just left, so mowing is now up to me! I didn't even know how to start the thing and now I feel like I can do everything I need. Thank you!!!

    My son and I JUST finished setting up our new Cub Cadet (had a heck of a time getting it off of the pallet😩) and then I found your video. I’ve never driven a riding mower before, which is crazy, because I’ve actually driven tracks while in the military, but didn’t know how to operate a riding mower. 😂 I’ve literally been riding around with your video on my phone in the space above the stirring wheel, stopping to play each new “lesson”, and then try it out. This video has been *EXTREMELY* helpful, and I truly appreciate it! I think I know what I’m doing now. 👍🏽😊

      Wow, sent to you to uncrate then put together!? I’m glad putting it together was ok and glad your getting the grass cut now! Thank you for the kind comment and letting me know how it went:) I’m glad this video was helpful!

    • @NubianP6
      @NubianP6 Год назад +2

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines yes, believe it or not, the first one I received was fully assembled when delivered, but I actually sent it BACK to request one that was crated, because the one that showed up had a very dingy seat. and a lot of scrapes and scuffs all over after being on display outside the store. It may seem silly, but since this was my first time buying a riding mower (I usually have someone do my yard every other week), I really wanted it to be brand-spanking new, with no dingy butt marks. 😂 So I had to arrange for HD to pick it up, and then I had to coordinate to ensure that I received a crated mower as opposed to another one from the store, especially since the manager of my local store doesn’t allow them to sell crated items. It took an extra 3 weeks between them refunding the purchase (the only way they would do it), and then sending one in a crate, but it arrived, and even now, my garage still smells like new leather! 😁
      Thanks again!

    No problem, you are a life saver. Im headed out today to cut my over grown lawn, lol. People must think my property is abandoned. I’m ashamed of the way it looks. We’ve had massive rain, and the grass grows like a weed. My next move if I failed was to have Home Depot come out and show me how dumb I am. You saved me!!

I love about this video that it is straight forward and not all this boring talking around like most other videos do. I watched this video because my mower was not starting and in all those years i never ever used the choke funktion. I did not even know about it. I was wondering about the sign (didn't knew what it ment) but since the shift thingy has a stop before it i never thought of pushing it with a little force. It always started to now. Thank you for this encouraging description; concise and very useful. I am new to the world of rider mowers but now we have 4x to 5x there lawn that we had in SoCal (here in Knoxville). I hadn't started it for about 3 months and my 77 year old brain was struggling to remember, oh yeah, the clutch and the brake. Thank you, thank you! The battery was low so I had to put it on our charger/engine start to give it enough juice but even with that there is one thing you left out of your presentation... I started yelling, "come on, come on, come on". That yelling along with your pointers makes me look like I know what I am doing because she started right up but only after I yelled at her. For what it is worth I am now subscribed and grateful.

    I have the same brand new lt46 is you here's the problem at times when the mowers in the garage I try to start it up it doesn't start right away being here in Florida when it's 95 degrees outside I decide will I probably don't need to choke finally when I do get it started it starts no problem when it's warmed up I'm using ethanol free fuel I hear that's the best for these type of mowers a little more money but to me it's worth it you seem very knowledgeable with this machine so what's your opinion on this great video by the way

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      You may be correct about the choke. Normally you only need the choke on start up. Only leave the choke on for a couple of seconds and if the engine doesn’t start, take the choke off. OR as you tried, start the engine without choke and see if it will start. In time you will figure out the easiest way to start your engine.

    What about the click switch under the seat (it's green and you can see it for a sec just as you start to talk about adjusting the seat). Does that have to be engaged by sitting or pressure to start?
    Excellent video.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      Yes, there is a seat switch but you must have have the emergency brake in the engaged position to start the tractor. You would normally be sitting on the seat to start the tractor. The seats which is there when you’re running the mower deck if you get up the engine will shut off.

    I just bought one and had an issue. First it got delivered with a dead battery and no gas. Ok...so i charged the battery overnight and filled it with gas and checked oil. Started it up as per procedure and all seemed fine...until I disengaged the brake/clutch and the tractor dies. Did this over and over with the same result. (deck in up position...no blades engaged BTW). So my mind went straight to the seat sensor as I weigh only about 153. Pulled the sensor out and physically held the button in while my friend started the mower and it still did the same thing and the engine died...so it is not the seat sensor. They are replacing it with a new one tomorrow but I am curious as to what could have caused this in your opinion? Great video for beginners BTW...nice job!!!!

      I have come across the safety control module goes bad. It is the ignition assemble with the reverse button. It is a all in one unit and I have seen them go bad if the machine was left outside uncovered like you would see in front of the big box stores. Tractor Supply, The Home Depot and lowes.

    I accidentally left the choke up past the detent and cut for about 25 mins…wish I would’ve saw your video first but I had a short window of time to cut the first time this season and my mind was all over the place with remembering how to operate it from last year (bought it July 2022 and only used it about 4 times last year)…the tractor smoked the entire time and consumed over a gallon of gas. Do you think I damaged anything by doing this? 😢

      The only thing that I can think of would be spark plugs fouling out but if they did, the engine would have stopped running. You should be ok.

    I have my XT1 at a 2nd home. I went about 3 weeks w/out mowing and found the battery dead. Any ideas why? Is there a headlight switch that I might have left on? Also how in heck do you remove that wire battery holder, I did it but, what a pain, there must be a trick.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 месяца назад

      A few reason why lawn tractor batteries fail, (1)Low quality, my opinion any battery under 275CCA "Cold Cranking Amps" may not last long. (2) I give lawn and garden acid filled battery life 3 to 5 years. 3 years if you do not trickle charge them in the off season and up to 5 years or more if you keep the charge up using a trickle charger in the off season (3) Battery is old? As far as getting the battery out, yes, it is tricky to get the metal hold down off. I made a video on it a few years ago. ruclips.net/video/tn3fbQ87J7o/видео.html

    Quick question, the first start up ever and I engaged to cut a little grass to test it out and I smelled burning rubber after shutting down. Is that normal coming straight from the factory?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      That’s not good but I do not know the conditions you are cutting? Was the throttle at full speed?(it should be when cutting grass). How high was the grass? How low is the mower deck height set? I would definitely look to see if your mower deck belt is running correctly and there is nothing caught under the deck. If you smell rubber and see white smoke, there is a issue. I cannot confirm any of this without seeing the machine. I’m just telling you my opinion on your comment.

      Sounds like a belt has come off somewhere around mower deck pulleys??

  • @zincman1995
    @zincman1995 Год назад

    Question: I have an older but the same unit as yours. It's really been an excellent mower in the past. Problem: Why does the engine bog down now as I engage the blades. The rpm's will gradually speed back up after engaged, what's the problem ? Thanks

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      Impossible to know that answer, as there are many that it could be from low engine oil? Or a pulley going bad to the belt coming off of a pulley or is off on the mower deck to the engine governor. A dirty air filter to a clogged mower deck. Too many to list without seeing the machine. if it is a twin cylinder engine, you could have one side, not operating as it should. I would check all of the easiest first clean mower deck underneath. Make sure the blades are freely, spinning. Make sure all your pulleys and idlers are OK and spinning freely on the mower deck.

    Just got the mower a couple days ago. Thank you for your help! Question: To engage the parking brake do you have to hold the lever down? I can't get it to engage and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. That and I think the same lever does crusie control?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 года назад +2

      Push the brake pedal all the way down then push the black E-brake down and hold it there, then let up on the brake pedal while still holding down the E-brake, then let go of E-brake handle. Now your E-brake should be on.
