This is costing me a small fortune!!! That’s another kit I want now..🤔, keep em coming Glenn...😛
Steven Mathers
Lol it’s never ending 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching Steven
This is so cool. I remember putting mine together in 1981. I still have it too.👍
This is really beautiful, wife just bought one . Love the torsion bar suspension, my old 77 Chrysler has torsion bars and handles like a dream.
I will get one of these again someday. Built one in 1985(25yrs old) Great time and great buggy. Thanks for the recap of great build memories.
brew man
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
I had the original Rough Rider, it was my first RC car. It is a classic. Loved watching the build.
DoubleTap Gaming
Excellent thanks so much for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
This is very informative and interesting, even for people who don't own one like myself. I always enjoy a chassis build video. 👌
Synapse
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
feeling young again watching this amazing build.. i used to have the 79 version (11y old built with my dad).. but can't remember the agony of building it.. brings back memories.. well done and thanks for the memory!
Lookin good so far. It just takes you way back in time working with an SRB. Even for the ones (like myself) who never owned one back in the day it's still a trip in the time machine.
RC Hobby Shed
It certainly is my friend, I’m so glad I finally got to build one 😊
Thanks for watching buddy
Cool build I always recommend building one of these style chassis they are special and a work of art!
Shen RC
Totally agree, this was my first actual full build and I loved it 🤩
Nice build, classic chassis. Good job and thanks for sharing!
The Houleigan
Thank you for watching my friend 😊👊🏻
I've just bought an original 79 in need of restoration. The rear axle grubs need to be drilled out as they're refusing to budge, despite every other conceivable method of removal failing miserably. Sometimes these models can leave you reaching for the Prozac 😁. But it's hopefully 1 of 3 projects I hope to complete by the summer.
Thanks for another great video Glenn. The Rough Rider is something very special in Tamiya history and particularly iconic for those of us who experienced the 80's RC scene.
Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the final product.
Eddie Bottoms
Oh I can really appreciate your pain Eddie, restorations are great, but usually bring problems 😬😬😬. Anyway it just adds to the finished car being more prized 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy

@@TAMIYALegends Hi Glenn, I noticed this article today and thought you might be interested. Hope the link works.
Eddie Bottoms excellent I’ll have a look 🤩👊🏻
Great stuff. (It's not every day you get a screw-by-screw build video of the buggy you end up owning!)
Very enjoyable as usual.
Cheers, Glenn.
Martin Gordon
lol 😂 Martin, no I guess not 😂
Thanks for watching buddy
Love watching these vids. Thank you so much from Wales 🏴
Vincent Thomas
Excellent and thank you for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
I had an original one in the 80s that I swapped for my Star Wars figures. Since it was already built I didn’t get the full experience seeing it getting constructed so I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!
Got to be one of the top all time buggies "Classic "
anything rc
Totally agree 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching
Well. another year another build. Great stuff :) and I have to say that thing looks very nicely engineered.
duff duff
Thanks for watching buddy 😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends no worries buddy I love learning about the kits and history.
The weight of the body may have a slight effect on the rear camber of the wheels, another solution could be to copy the torsion bar using piano wire available in different gauges,I used a product called finish line for mtb lubricant that's plastic and rubber safe even works in dampers! Washes of easily with detergent unlike normal oil,I'd be tempted to just run it with a painted dust cover lol
James Cunliffe
Great info James 👊🏻
This is probably one of the most customised cars ever made by Tamiya, I’ve seen so many improvements done over the years by collectors 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Not just the body, but all the electronics and the battery too.
Lovely kit. Love all the metal. Can't wait to see next video
Matthew Mitchell
Cheers Matthew 😊
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Dude. I love this. It's so modeled after a VW buggy. That front end is straight out of a type 1 and 2. And so much metal and bearings for an old tamiya kit. I want one!
Great video 👍
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I started with Tamiya cars and want to start getting them again
Flying Fortress RC
Excellent 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching my friend
This is the first rc car i drove, it was from the older brother of a friend. He got his bigger brothers drawer, like a whole under the bed drawer, full of half rc cars and parts everywhere. We pieced together what we could, and this was the first car we got going. Good times=)
Love Tamiya
ricer mx5
Me too 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Best RC channel by far imo... Love your work. Down to earth, easy to relate to & relaxing to watch. Unlike a lot of falsed crap on RUclips😄👍
Keep it up👊
Nostalgic rc
Thanks so much my friend 🤩
great video mate👍👊🇬🇧😎😊
Leons rc hobbys
Thanks buddy 🤩👊🏻
All Tamiya are fun to run.
Nice build mate, their a lot of bits there.👍👍
UNBOXING RADIO CONTROL
There’s a lot of metal bits 😂👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Nice work and nice kit Glenn. I’m thinking about the BAJA bug, same chassis which is what really appeals to me.
My dilemma is they’re $500 Australian, and for that kind of money I can make a massive dent into the cost of a modern touring kit or 4wd off road kit, or purchase outright a 2wd off road kit.
Of course the electronics are way cheaper for the Tamiya. I ordered the Tamiya RC tool kit (which I didn’t know existed until last night) whooo hooo no more ill fitting Phillips heads 🤣
But I’m really digging your channel, love the older kits and their quirky designs. Much better than the modern “Toymia” designs which I usually use as a base for a themed kit designed for friends and family as they are a cheap chassis and lots of options and hop ups.
Keep up the good work, and interesting builds, I’m loving it 👍🇦🇺🤓
Paul Garwood
Excellent Paul, thanks for the lovely comment and most of all thanks for watching my stuff 🤩👊🏻
Really cool kit. Just think, this was the car that everyone raced in America until the Scorpion, and then the RC10 came out. I want to see all three side by side. Technology really jumped in the early 80's.
chris smith
Oh yes Chris the 80’s were huge for RC innovation 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Great video I took mine out today for a spin . I enjoyed that video and I am going to share the link on my site . Looking forward to the body shell video.
Emaxxman Uk
Oh wow thank you 🤩👊🏻
Man nice kit, I need one now lol.
David Cotter
Yes you do David 😂👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Luvli build 😊 Sand Scorcher was nice to build also 😋 Keep 'em coming LeGlennd !
Cosmo 1:35
Thanks for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
Wow, yes I’ve always wanted a Rough Rider been intrigued with them since I first saw them in 1980 as kid. I definitely remember my first build the Frog.
Powder River
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
TAMIYA Legends thank you
Awesome video Glenn! Love all the little technical bits. That chassis is such a playground for creativity, looking forward to seeing her scoot!
Donovan Gladden
Thanks for watching buddy 🤩👊🏻
What a original design, this must be my new favorite.
28:10 I built the Sand scorcher MkI in 1980 aged 15, my first ever RC build. The chassis was a piece cake even at 15.
BigDuke6ixx
Awesome 😎
Thanks for watching
Wow, same thing. Got the Sand Scorcher for Christmas in 80 and I was 15 as well! Spent the rest of Christmas and the next day to finish it up! Great car, still have it but hasn't run for a while. Good times..
@@user-nu2pp5tc5q I sold mine to a friend in 1990 for £50, which he never gave me. Got it back in 2009 in a bit of a state and minus the shell but with the nose cone and lights. All now restored.
Great video. I really hope I can get me one of these soon. At least if I still have a job in a month.
Trenton Arney
I hope your job situation works out for you buddy 👊🏻

Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
Glenn, Another great vid and build BUT I have to reprimand you on one thing.Coffee! With that accent. How about a cuppa, brew or char , your be liking your beer cold soon : )
gary murphy
Pmsl Gary😂👊🏻
Cuppa char 😍
Thanks for watching buddy
Great glen!!!. Now I know when we were kids my mate Bradley had to keep buying bags of grub screws for the universal joints on his ford ranger........ not in a million years did one drop of thread lock go on😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Darren Grimmer
Pmsl 😂
My old beat up one was exactly the same Darren, spent more time in my dad’s shed than on the road 😂👊🏻
Completely different from anything else.
Except maybe the Sand Scorcher and Ford Ranger 😆
Now you’ve done a standard build, I’d love to see you build a period racer. Diff, coil springs, no tub, maybe a Mardave Apache front end etc etc
Great vid, thanks for doing it 👍🏻👍🏻
Stuart Leckie
Maybe a custom SS this year 🤔
Thanks for watching buddy
I love a build day to!
Michael Dack
It’s the best 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching Michael
Torsion bars? cool. Could use a bit more preset-tension. Chassis seems a bit flexible. My Kyosho Ultima has a really stiff chassis, but 4 adjustable coil-over shocks. Man, my kyosho is probably 25+years old now. These are cool to watch how tamiya engineered their cars.
orbitalair
Ultima 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
I've built dozens of SRB'S and it is my No1 favourite kit to build if you like the rough rider try the fighting buggy/super champ with its weird rear shock set up! Sport tuned motor and ball diff (when the ball diff 2 makes an appearance)transform its driving style! Its never been a brilliant handling buggy but you don't buy one for that you get one because it's just a beautiful piece of rc engineering👍
Phil Moffett
It’s gotta be Tamiya’s most iconic chassis?
Thanks for watching Phil 👊🏻
A very different kit to what I consider typical tamiya
davew1234
Yes it’s probably Tamiya’s most iconic chassis tbh, 1979😳
Thanks for watching buddy
Cracking video, shame you are not putting electrics into it though 😣 Amazing model when you think of when it was released and what the alternatives were like ! Remember Mardave anyone or Radio Race Car magazine back in the day ??!!
Ian Ellison
Oh yes I had both the Mardave Cobra and meteor back in the day 🤩👊🏻. I was also subscribed for that magazine 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching Ian 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Got a couple of 1/12 Mardave mini stocks bodies still tucked away if you know of anyone interested in them on your face book page ?
Great job! Happy New Year! Cheers
fabrizio viscardi
Thanks my friend 🤩👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends thanks to you for sharing!
Well done, really enjoyed that build
Chris Stitt
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching Chris 👊🏻
Nice vid and SRBs are great to work on and really enjoy building them too! First in quality around the world yeah!
I have just treated myself to a Blitzer Beetle always liked the look of them! Some find them a bit in your face but l love the boxart it sure stands out! Have you done a vid on one before?? Anyway catch you later Cheers.
Mad-Bee Tamiya fan!
Excellent 🤩. I’ve a couple of videos on here with the Stadium Thunder, really liked it and it ran great 🚗💨💨💨
Thanks for watching
@@TAMIYALegends Cool l will check it out!
Getting a tto2 subaru mote Carlo any electric recommendations would be great
Keep up the amazing work
Been building this chassis today, my recommendation is Don't put a HobbyWing Max10 ESC 4000KV motor in it as this is an experiment to see if I will go in a straight line!!! I got the kit after watching Glenn's video about the Monte Carlo Impreza and love that body shell, that's for a Tamiya XV01 Rally kit I've got!!! If you go Brushless, go with a 13.T motor approx 3200KV or if you go brushed a Tamiya Sport Tuned works well but won't be as quick as the Brushless, If you haven't already get full bearings, alu propshaft, alu prop ends & alu motor mount... :-)
The chassis can cope with a 2 pole hobbyWing 10.5T motor but that's with oil dampers and alu steering kit, wouldn't go hotter than that apart from my experiment which I know will end in tears!!!
BenAppleTre thanks for the advice the comments are the 2nd best part of the channel
charlie wheatley
Excellent Charlie 🤩👊🏻
Tbh it comes with a 540 motor and esc, I’d just run that on 2s Lipo to begin with. You might find that quick enough 🤷🏼♂️
Very easy to upgrade after that. Make sure you put a full bearing kit in it if you haven’t already 👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
TAMIYA Legends thanks your the whole reason I got into the hobby
awesome! really want to build one of these! only done 1 Tamiya, that was a grasshopper. got a rising fighter for the missus to build together soon too.
john huyton
Wow that’s cool that your misses is into it 🤩👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
I want one!!!
Mr Doofa
Excellent 🤩
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
What a fun film to watch. Loved it. Doesn’t seem too difficult to do really. Stunning looking buggy as well.
Are these still available?
Thanks Glenn. 👍🏻😊
Dave Pearce
Thanks Dave, yes still on eBay but there not cheap and the prices are rising 😬😬😬
Thanks for watching
TAMIYA Legends. Thanks Glenn.
I have always wanted the rough rider! And now a build video! But where to buy one now.....hmmmm
3006USMC
Yeah that’s the problem now unfortunately, not many kits about and if you find one it’s expensive 😬😬😬
Thanks for watching buddy
Hi, I had an original F150 circa 1982. Absolutely love both this channel but also this re release for us grown ups to enjoy! Any thoughts on why they haven’t re released the F150? Is it the license issue? Or just a low demand. Do you think they will ever re release the Original HiLux? Loving the content, keep the great work up!
Steven H
Thanks Stephen that’s much appreciated buddy 🤩👊🏻
Personally I don’t think we will ever see the Ranger again 😞
From what I’ve heard yes it’s Tamiya not wanting to pay the rights on it 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks for watching buddy
This is by far my favourite car, but now just seeing the engineering that went into this, this is really an amazing car for its time. Didn't the original have an external oil recivoir for the dampers?
paulus842000
Totally agree Paul 🤩
No the car that had that rear setup was the Fighting Buggy 👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
Good for a beginner? Glen says 'not really' but it was my first car as a 15-year-old and I had no trouble at all with it.
Would those wheels and tyres fit straight onto a Fighting Buggy/Super Champ?
Hello mate great video that looks like nice kit Iam building my dark impact kit but having trouble with the diffs not sure how tight there suppose to be 😔
coz
Hey 👋
Yes you need to google that question, there’s a lot of information about them, very important to get it right buddy 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends OK mate thank you
arn't there supposed to be 2 BC2 screws in the arms to stop the suspension spring sliding out??????????? there are the threaded holes for them.......
chloe devereaux
Yeah I thought that, but it must just be the way it’s cast 🤷🏼♂️. There was nothing in the manual 🤔
@@TAMIYALegends fair play....... looks good :D
I have one of these that was bought ready built. Not used much since radio (or receiver) started to act up. Been sitting since 1985 or so. Do not know where to get a radio (or receiver) or where I should sell it since I am in Sweden. Ebay maybe?
You know the front suspension is really based after a Volkswagen Beetle the old one and I think the rear is to.
Brad Kalman
Wow excellent I didn’t know that buddy 👊🏻
Hey Glen how do you stop the dampers from leaking oil all over
I bet you those plastic Tops on top of the top of the wishbone there I bet you can put a ball bearing in there that will fit it.
Can’t believe I’m saying this but I had an original one of these from the 1970’s in orange but about 10 years ago when I got divorced and I had move into a much smaller house I had to throw 75% of things I owned away and I had a large box full of RC cars and bits and pieces and one of these was in it and I threw it in the skip well you live by your mistakes 😢
Andrew Keam
Oh no 😞
That has happened a lot Andrew, I’ve also seen the other side of that, when guys post about what they found in a skip lol.
Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
great video as always but i have a ? i know someone that has a nib vintage stadium thunder hes asking 225.oo for it would you get it for that price ?
Charles Mccune
Sounds a good price buddy 😊👊🏻
I can't believe the short one goes on the back and not the long one that seems kind of odd.
gone and got one.
Matt McLafferty
Excellent Matt, you’ll love it my friend 🤩👊🏻
Are those certified Tamiya tools? :-)
Bill OBrien
Yeah of course, we’ll that’s what eBay said 😂👊🏻
Who’s fredlock? Oh, you mean thread lock! Lol!
Mike King
😂😂😂
I love the rough rider but one turn over, and the spotlights and roof are broken. 😭🏁
Ahh, the ‘Rough Rider’ ..... reminds me of a girl I went out with . 😬. I first met her in English Literature class. I asked her if she liked Dickens, and she said “Yes, but not on a first date” 😬
Did the original use Allen bolts? If so, why the heck did they move to Philips screws, which are nowhere near as good? Please tell me you are going to run this ????? If not then I will have to revoke your membership of the ‘Manly Men’s Club’
Alan Morris
Oh dear I do enjoy your comments Alan 😂👊🏻
Thanks for watching buddy
😬
Glenn tell me it isn't so that you're not going to drive this vehicle please drive it.
You know you could get a 540 brushless motor to fit in there.
Brad Kalman
Yeah this one wasn’t to run, just the build 🤩
I don't understand Glen why you won't use it that car has replacement parts you should use it and have fun with it I wouldn't spend that type of money on a kit and not run it in my opinion that's a waste of money if you're not going to use it.
i wonder why they renamed it the Racing Buggy? I mean it's not like Rough Rider sounds like a dildo or anything, is it?
