Slightly off on home town, but totally agree on the assessment. Most cricketers from the south were fortunate to have good education and they worked hard to groom themselves as gentlemen!
Kumble, Dravid, Laxman, Vishwanath, Kirmani, Chandrashekar, Ashwin, etc., you can make a ton!
P.S - Please don’t see this as something instigating a divide based on geography. Thanks!

When I was playing Bangalore University cricket team in 2003/2004, I used to meet him regularly when I go to Chinnaswamy stadium for practice. He looks so simple with lots of brilliance. I still remember Ranji trophy coach Yaswanth sir used to call me to bowl in Ranji nets as a guest fast bowler. But this man got annoyed as I was ignoring my education (MBA). I will always remember his words "education is the only one thing nobody can steal from you, so concentrate on your studies first". Too practical person that I ever met in my life. Now, remembering those nostalgic times in Bangalore when I see his Interview. Love u Javagal ❤️

I always admired him. He came across as a person with enormous self-belief, self-discipline and confidence. He never appeared to be overawed by his fellow cricketers and the adulation they got. He did not get the guidance from the seniors when he was in Indian Cricket team. But he ensured that he gave all his knowledge to the next generation cricketers and his fellow junior colleagues like Zak, Nehra et al. I remember once he called Zaheer Khan in 2006-07 when ZK was out of Indian team. He told Zak that you are still India's top fast bowlers and you need to be match fit. So go and play county cricket. Zak listened to him and had a fantastic county season and later in 2007 it was Zak's performance that won us a Test series in England after 21 years.
He is so down to earth and very candid and secure in himself. Hats off.

a very intelligent person and one of my favorite players in the Indian team. Gave it all every time he stepped on the field. I wish the anchor had included Rahul Dravid's name in the list because anyone you could tell that JS shared a great camaraderie with RD.
