City of Evil really showcased everyone in the bands talent, but a lot of people were unhappy due to the drastic change from Waking the Fallen. Honestly I think it's one of the best rock albums ever.
Johnny Jones absolutely agree. A as little bit of a different feel from waking the fallen but probably their best overall album. Waking the fallen is amazing but city of evil goes to another level!
They really found their sound, and it was perfect for big arena's. I remember the first time I saw them in Amarillo Texas. They co-headlined with Buck Cherry, but they played before Buck Cherry (so stupid). I was on the floor, and after they finished their set, literally 98% of the people on the floor left. It was pretty funny 😂

its more because hes glued to the microphone the whole song singing backing vocals on top of the difficult riffs and solos
So the biblical connections are everywhere. The bands name is out of Genesis. "Whoever kills Cain shall vengeance be done upon him seven times...." The song is out of Revelations. If you wanna take it further on their Second Album (Waking the Fallen) they have a great song called Chapter Four which I highly recommend that has a chorus "I've come here to kill you, won't leave until you died, murder born of vengeance, I closed my brothers eyes tonight."
I’ve always felt that Chapter 4 is the quintessential A7X song, especially during the early days

The sword sounding part at the end is the segue into their next song “Burn It Down”, I recommend checking that one out too!! Fast paced, insane guitar work throughout and solo, God-like drumming by the REV, and an overall amazing song. It’s their shortest song on the album at 4:58 😂 definitely should give it a listen bro, along with “Bat Country”

Chapter 4 is a great song that goes off the Bible verse genesis chapter 4
Singing was in waken the fallen(their second album) as well. Sounding the 7th trumpet also had warmness of the soul, all singing.

he only started singing more from city of evil and onwards is cause before this album he blew his voice and had surgery on his throat his screams have changed into a better scream then his earlier stuff but thats why city of evil had a different vocal sound cause yeah he blew his voice from all the screams hah its a shame he doesnt sing like this anymore :(

You wanna hear a crazy emotional song by them?? Check out Fitcton. It was written by The Rev and he finished it just days before he passed. He sings in it and sounds like hes in pain. Theres alot of conspiracies or speculations about the song, some think it was his suicide note. The lyrics definitely make you think that. He actually recorded the drums for this song in only one take which adds to the Revs legend as far as I'm concerned. He went crazy with it and you can hear all the passion and technically they put into this. This album in many people's opinions was the band at thier best. Now you see I was on point when I said it is as close to perfection as you can get in metal in my opinion.

You should really check out some of their live stuff to see how good they are. Live in the LBC is an amazing concert. Since you liked this you could do Beast and the Harlot at LBC or something new like Almost Easy at LBC
This is one of their best songs and the Rev just goes crazy on the drums! In fact, the entire City of Evil album is just one you have to listen to!
By the way, I really recommend listening to the live version of this song as well. It sounds even better! If you do plan on doing it, I recommend listening to the live version from the All Exces DVD. There's a video here on YT so you'll find it right away!

The Rev was possibly if not the most technical drummer of the early 2000's
the rev's double bass footwork was top notch in the 2000s when they were gaining major traction in the metal scene he set the bar in many ways and is the major reason I got into drumming and what you thought was a cowbell is the rev hitting the bell of the ride cymbal.
A7x! Their musical talent is nearly unmatched. Not the fastest or most technically difficult...BUT most creative n sounds fucking amazing.
It makes me think about revelations. Idk. It maybe about it.

If you’re interested in the lyrics they’re ripped straight from the book of revelation, like word for word in many cases, where it talks about a “symbolic woman”, “Babylon the great” who is ‘striped naked’ and destroyed by a “seven headed beast”. This entire song is legit straight out of the Bible, it’s really interesting. So if you’re looking for meaning in the song honestly there isn’t much to be found beyond what the book of revelation is talking about.
