    Speaking of Fenriel and freezing, Andraste went through the same thing. In the dragon age: the world of thedas 2 book pg.12 it says: As a young woman, she (Andraste) would become still for long moments, unable to be moved or roused. After, she would report voices, as though from a lost memory, and talk of strange auras or the sounds of bells.
    Perhaps Andraste was also a dreamer?

    A cut scene soon after arriving in Skyhold, the Inquisition asks Solas about the Fade. Solas suggests they go somewhere more suitable and takes the Inquisitor to Haven. The Inquisitor realizes Haven is not real as the Breach was closed and Haven destroyed. Solas prompts the Inquisitor to wake up. During their discussion Solas says the Anchor makes him/her sharper in the Fade. Some interpret this as the Anchor giving the Inquisitor some "dreamer" qualities, and it was the Inquisitor who entered Solas' dream.
    This has puzzled and fascinated me. Are we getting into dreamer territory? Comment?

    • @ConnorLonergan
      @ConnorLonergan 2 года назад +1

      Nah, I think the Inquisitor was in their own dream (remember that non-mages and dwarves do not hold the same powers of dreaming as mages, with Dwarves not able to dream at all.) The Anchor helps sharpen the Inquisitor's mind and focus when in the fade they are not complete on dreamers.

    Archon Darinius (founder of the Imperium) was a master dreamer by the age of ten. A town in Tevinter is named Solas, and the Tevinter Dalish went extinct after Fen'Harel drove their keeper mad in his dreams. Those same plains are also home to a plant that is immune to the blight.

      You mean Felicidus Aria, that plant? It doesn't outright say it's immune to the blight, just that it's the only plant capable of growing on blighted land. It could be a situation like with Deep Mushrooms, where it carries the corruption but isn't able to transmit the disease (deep mushroom is also poisonous unless properly prepared). Felicidus Aria's roots are distilled in order to make Ambrosia, but the plant is currently going extinct.

    Dwarven Wardens dream... Does the joining then connect them to the Fade because of the lyrium in the mix? Because Ohgren's odd dream after his joining isn't a blight dream.

      Sorry to reply to a two year old comment but you bring up a good point. Perhaps the medium that the old gods use to relay their “song” to the darkspawn is the fade. Makes about as much sense as anything

    • @ConnorLonergan
      @ConnorLonergan 2 года назад

      No Dwarves don't dream, or rather their "dreams." is not the same as everyone else's. When non-dwarf dreams, their minds enter into the fade. When dwarves "dream." it works like IRL dreaming

    Wow, super informative for me. I never really realized a mage’s ability to shape their dreams was on a scale.
    What about Dorian? In banter he mentions making his dreams of the Fade look super pleasant and male desire demons would be attracted to him. Is that normal really good mage dreaming or “dreamer” dreaming (wow I wish they had a better word for this lol)?

    • @pieniaurinko
      @pieniaurinko 5 лет назад +7

      I think maybe it's like a sliding scale? A mage has a better chance to realize they are dreaming, and the stronger their magic and thus their connection to the fade(or the more lyrium they use), the more they can influence their dreams?
      That would also explain the confusion of the term 'dreamer'. Like a normal mage is a dreamer that can only nudge their dreams into a certain direction, maybe making them more pleasant, while a powerful true dreamer could theoretically do anything they want within the fade, like manipulate the dreams of others as well as their own, travel anywhere in the fade, or even use the fade to sustain themselves if they're powerful enough like some of the evanuris were able to?

    • @Levsa399
      @Levsa399 4 года назад +2

      With Dorian, it was during his Harrowing, so he was probably given lyrium and thus had a bit more control.

    • @NehnBellanaris
      @NehnBellanaris 4 года назад +4

      @@Levsa399 you're referring to what he says in the 'Here lies the Abyss' quest, right? If so, then Dorian said 'The first time I entered the Fade, it looked like a lovely castle filled with gold and silks. I met a marvelous desire demon as I recall. We chatted and ate grapes before he tried to posses me.' So I'm thinking that it was when his magic first surfaced, not during a Harrowing.

    Totally random trivia: "Somniari" (and its possible singular, "Sominarus/-a") has a similar root to "Somnium", meaning "dream" in Latin: not too ironclad as a thing (latin never was my strong suit) but it's possible that the word literally means "one who dreams".

  • @bennettmarshall6141
    @bennettmarshall6141 3 года назад +1

    I know this is really late, but an idea has just occurred to me. I'm thinking that Dreamers do crop up every now and then, more often than the game suggests, since it says there haven't been any making it to adulthood. It says nothing about how many are born. By no means am I suggesting it's terribly common, but I'm thinking more like a 1% chance, likely no more than five or six a year in all of Thedas, depending on how many mages are born. Including ones who ended up dying from illness or injury or what have you before their magic even manifested.
    Given their increased risk of being possessed, I wouldn't be even remotely surprised that, in the southern Circles, they're often made Tranquil, with the ones that have been able to keep it a secret usually then proceeding to fail their Harrowing; the small handful who have survived that far over the last few hundred years opting to keep it a secret their entire lives.
    In the Imperium, it's all about power. While being a Dreamer would give someone more, it could also make them more of a target. Say you find out a rival family's only child is a Dreamer; the child has the potential to put that house head and shoulders above yours through magical prowess alone, so by taking care to have that child eliminated you would not only be evening things out by taking away their advantage, you could be in a better position if you have a mage child or two of your own, by setting them back a few years on that front, giving your own a head start.
    This does obviously doesn't account for the Dalish, Avaar, or Rivain (counting them seperately given how different that Circle was), but I would suspect they, as a whole, don't think of it as something of note. There's also a chance those cultures keep it hush-hush around outsiders for fear of the person's safety, so especially given the nature of so many in-game codex entries, it wouldn't be common knowledge.

    Super comprehensive and very well explained!! I also appreciated the parts where you were sort of like “I don’t know the lore contradicts itself sometimes I’m doing my best” 😂
    I’m about to play a DnD 5e campaign set in Thedas and I’m high-key thinking of playing a Dalish Keeper who is a dreamer, using the Druid Circle of Dreams (from Xanathar’s Guide to Everything). A lot of the abilities actually match up quite nicely with dreamers abilities (like limited teleportation) if you just replace the word “Feywilds” with “The Fade” 😂. I’m very excited to say the least and this video helped me understand DA Dreamers better!

  • @sveipr6516
    @sveipr6516 5 лет назад +3

    So there was a decline in the Dreamer population near the beginning of the Tevinter Imperium, and those who are dreamers tend to have a shorter lifespan. Dreamers (supposedly) are said to be of Dalish(Elvish) descent. Could Thalsian and Aurelien have an elvhen ancestor somewhere in their bloodline? But now there is an increase of a dreamers lifespan as of recent years. Could this be correlated with the veil? Since dreamers are supposedly to have elvish blood in them, and elves are intrinsically connected to the fade, could creating the veil be the cause of the dreamers more or less disappearing? And now that the veil is weakening or with the breach causing a large influx of magic from the fade to come into the world of the living, is that what's causing current dreamers to live longer?

    I really hope we get to see more of Feynriel in DA4. I think he might play a key part against Solas. Next to him Feynriel is probably the closest in dreamer skills. While he lacks the experience Solas has he has the advantage of Solas's Achilles heel.. Tevinter knowledge 😀

    To do with the dwarves. I know you said dwarves dont dream unless devs forgot. I think its true dwarves cant dream such as the cave dwelling orzammar ones. Mainly because the dwarves that could dream magic is are aways involved or they were cloud gazing surface ones. Eg. Oghren sigrun warden and varric dream from magic. Inquisitor herald was the anchor or solas magic.

      If your warden isnt a mage or an elf I don’t really think it’s possible to be a dreamer unless you’re super powerful with magic. The broken circle quest you are thrown into a dream-state due to a sloth demon. You can break out of a demons hold and once you are aware the “dream” begins to fall apart, revealing horrors.
