*Really cool how the customer's boots are restored! It's valid to get this done, especially when many customers have sentimental value attached to their boots! The benefit of this rebuild is that the upper leathers are very broken in. So they're already comfortable for the customer. The vamp, heel, sides, soles, and midsole really needed to be replaced! I'd say it was worth it! Unfortunately, they didn't clean them when they mailed them in. It would be a great courtesy for more people to clean their boots before mailing them in. That way it saves them time to get to work on the boots right away. There's many more boots needing to be worked on, so it's nice when the customer cleans their boots. Also, cleaning and conditioning your boots extends their life! It prevents deep cracks and holes from forming too!* *Overall the rebuild looks amazing! I'm sure the customer is very happy with the results! The suede paired with the old smooth leathers look great! The patina is beautiful!*
*Rebuilds start at $319 usd. When you see the options to select from, some will make that price go a bit higher. And the price is relatively still below the price of new boots. Depending on what people need for rebuilds, I know it'll vary. For some people with boots in the $500 ish range, the price of the rebuild could almost cut close to the price of a new pair of boots in that price range. It's still great how the price does start at $319 for rebuilds though!*
I'm always a bit surprised at how much Nicks will do when rebuilding a boot for "less" than the new price. Their videos are also surprisingly calming for me. I have no need at all for boots this tough, but I want a pair anyway!
If you walk, then that's all you need to justify wearing a good pair of boots. I'm not a lineman, I don't work construction. I work on a production floor in a lab, but I still bought a pair! They look great, they'll last a lifetime, and they are very comfortable to wear all day (after breaking in, of course)
Are restorations, like the boots in this video, done only for your vlog? Will Nicks rebuild a severely worn boot if the customer requests it? I've read that some customers were refused a rebuild when their boots were far less worn than the ones in this video. What are some of the reasons Nicks will not rebuild a boot?
@@Totemparadox They've done some red wing rebuilds. Don't believe it's something they offer customers although I wish they could. Would be cool to see them do a pair of Iron Rangers.
@@allenh.9510 I really appreciate this. I made the comment a few months ago that I’d like to see bespoke knives being used to manufacture nicks boots. Idk why, but it annoys me when I see someone use a box cutter type of deal.
Nicks has a few options available for soles. The shallow soles still offer decent traction while also being easier to clean off since there are no deep lugs for rocks and dirt to get stuck in.
Vibram mini lug sole on this one VS Vibram 100 or Montagne on the builder pro you're probably thinking about. Different styles that still get the wearer putting in miles.
From what I can see over 80, maybe even 90 percent of the boot have been replaced with new materials. Its hard to see how a service like this can cost substantially less than a new boot, its basically the same amount of work.
He’s not wrong. I’m a military guy and I baby my boots. It annoys the hell out of me when I see guys that don’t. But they’re not passionate about boots so I can’t blame them.
@@CatsHaveCamerasInTheirEyes there is no job on earth that will produce that result with proper care and maintenance. Oiling and cleaning your boots regularly will always maintain the boot regardless of what you do for a living
I would have to say that the owner of this pair of boots is probably a lineman, judging by the style and wear on the boots. Now imagine working 3 weeks straight and 18hr days during a blizzard or hurricane, and you finally get a rest, the last thing on your mind is work much less cleaning your boots. Just saying. My father in law was a lineman and I remember him coming in for a few hrs to see my wife (his daughter) and his wife. Not a lot of time anything else.
Why? That's what the customer wants; what if they were his/her first pair? What if they were dad's/grandpa's? If they wanted to buy a new pair, bet they would have. Guess they didn't.
I’m sure they have plenty of customers who don’t clean their boots. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if they staged them a bit to show off their skills. Either way, it’s like a free antidepressant for me

@@Bodudus Agreed, I work in a hospital, hard floors all day long and I bought a pair of Builder Pros. A great pair off boots makes a huge difference.
Watching these vids is very therapeutic.
What craftsmen.
0:39 I wonder what type of laces that person used, is that what kevlar laces will do to eyelets?
Me encantan sus botas muy pronto les comprare un par de ellas, saludos desde Monterrey Nuevo león México!!
With such an extensive rebuild how can that be cheaper than just a new boot? As always great work everyone and wow!
People who are willing to get their boots rebuilt i don’t think want a new pair
I think Nicks rebuilt these long gone boots just to show they can fix anything. 🙂
Should have these Linemans boots waterproofed, Having them waterproof will prevent from corroded or eaten by salt.
Good job
What a ridiculous rebuild haha
Some new little bits of information and processes in this video which was interesting.
Great work guys.
Curious if you know how long the mini lug sole lasted?
I love my boots from you guys
Very beautiful boots
Id like to know how they managed to knock the heel off!
how did the heelstack come off? just how?

Nicks only rebuilds Nicks boots and only if the upper leather is intact. Any tears or such and they won't rebuild..

Question.
How come the tread on the bottom of the boot is so shallow? Compared to like a builder pro?

A whole heel block is missing?!? Oh dang these were really worn
nice!! craft man! nice skill!👍
Nicks is the best. Boots had zero maintenance their whole life, literally disintegrating…we can fix those for you! 😆🤦🏼♂️
Best part of the video….the sweater that said “drink eggnog, fight commies”

How often can you have your boots rebuilt?

I would be ashamed to even send a pair in for rebuild that has been abused to this level. The owner knows nothing of maintenance & care.

how do people buy a pair of 500$ boots and don't clean them with saddle soap. and that's the least they can do
