    It is painful to drive through most areas of East Cleveland, especially if you're old enough to remember that back in the day, it was a gem. A source of pride to say you lived in East Cleveland. Now, it reminds me of an old 🐴 that's been left out to pasture with no one to care for it. 😔💔😔

    I call B.S. on just about everything said. I live in Clevo. Agencies have programs that grant moving expenses & 1st months rent for
    the poor. Most people absolutely WANT to stay in the hood. Been there for generations. The miracle they need is to get people working & owning a home & pay taxes to repair infrastructure. One cn purchase a house for $4000!!! Then qualify for govt grants to do repairs. East Cleveland politicos r known to be corrupt & a number have been outed after embezzling $ from city. My x is an attorney who would bring back tails of woe when he had to represent someone from E Cleve. The stories of incompetentcy & poor leadership were varied & many. BTW, large apt buildings could be repurposed to house homeless, if they had their shyte together.

    Any city that allows houses to be rented is doomed to the same fate. The more renters you got, the more people you got that couldn’t care less. Once they become the norm it’s game over for the city. When the laws of a community are no longer upheld because of a lacking police force (caused by people who don’t pay rent or taxes) this type of blight just accelerates to the point of no return.
    And then......you add in decades of a faultering working class( no jobs & no work ethic) and then “rebuilding” becomes impossible.
    Republican or Democrat does not matter, The majority of politicians are nothing more than Glory hounds that don’t give one fuck about the “Working man” be he black or white !

  • @qolspony

    People left because of jobs and things were cheaper elsewhere. And they could enjoy lower energy cost and taxes. The land can be re-purpose for farming. Other than that, there is not much you can do if their isn't a population to rebuild a neighborhood.

  • @gdhammo7532
    @gdhammo7532 6 лет назад +5

    Knock those buildings down, put em in a big pile, sprinkle dirt in all the cracks/voids, put some grass on that hill, and then walk up and down it so you can get a better view of the progress that you have made. Take the land and make indoor farms with hydroponic /aeroponic systems. You can't take east Cleveland out of the man, but you can take the man out of East Cleveland.

    Revitalization means investment. Investment means money. You have to make money want to come to where you are and the best way to do that is to let money know that it's not going to get jacked, beaten, shot, robbed, carjacked or it's nice, new job-creating investment torched by bored crackheads or thug ass gangstah boyees. I've looked into this. That's solid advice, y'all.

    Lived on Bender Av. Went to Rozelle Elementary, Kirk Jr. High. and left Shaw High in 1981 to enlist in the Army. Returned in 1984 and it was a different place. Finally left for good in 1988 only to return to visit. Spent plenty of time exploring all of E.C. and am not surprised yey disappointed at what it has become. I won't name any names yet the local politrickians weren't very good stewards of the land/city and along with the crack era the demise of the city was inevitable.

    These are all brick properties with strong structures, it will only take rich or REIT(s) to purchase them as an investment. Within one year these properties value will increase 2000%, furthermore it will increase the value of the surrounding properties. While re-habing these properties it will create job opportunities in the neighborhood which in turn will lesson crime. The city of East Cleveland will finally have a consisting cash flow via. property taxes and city / local employment tax. Please Contact the City of East Cleveland Landbank for more information

    This Expatriate Chicagoan has an idea...which may very well be The Solution......to bringing East Cleveland BACK to being clean and prosperous : Bring the overseas refugees here, and have them settle in East Cleveland...on these conditions : #1)- Let them have the residences that are in DIRE NEED of rehabilitation & repair.... *IF* they take it upon themselves to administer said rehabilitations & repairs ; #2)- Once said residential repairs have been duly administered by said refugees, and have passed inspection muster, give the new residents gov't grants to start up their own businesses (such as : Mom & Pop grocery/retail stores, bakeries, barbers, and hings like these..) ; #3)- Empty lots have plants, trees, shrubbery, etc. planted...in the form of parks or even community gardens. It'd take awhile, sure.....BUT.....it ***WOULD*** ...............................................................................serve to rebuild, rehabilitate, and repopulate East Cleveland, and bring it to prosperity and cleanliness..

      How exactly are these refugees going to repair things with no tools or machinery? unless they will be GIVEN the tools, machines and training to do the work. It's funny that when the residents who currently live here ask about resources like that, they are shamed as asking for "handouts".
