Well I am 71 years old and love BTS. I have been since 2018 and went to Chicago to see them in concert in 2019. They are awesome and I have been pleasantly surprised in how many older people even older than me love BTS. At the concert that opened my eyes to the range of ages that are fans of them. Army as we fans are called. LOL RM was the first member that I noticed but then V quickly became my bias.. Love his voice and facial expressions. They are all incredibly talented young men!
At the beginning it's curiosity, then you start to likking them, then it's fun trying to know their names and songs, but as you go on you start loving them and becoming a real Army, ...then meet them or go to their concery becomes your dream! 💜
With BTS, I felt a connection instantly. I watched the Carpool Karaoke episode that they were on and they just seemed like such fun guys. I instantly warmed to them. Which I didn’t expect as a metal head. I expected to write them off as inauthentic and bubblegum pop. My expectations were so wrong. After I watched the Carpool Karaoke, I decided to look up the music videos of the songs they sang and I fell deep into the rabbit hole. There’s no one like them. ☺️💜
Oh me too the carpool karaoke was one of the first videos I watched of theirs and I loved their personalities that I decided to give them a chance and turned out I was so wrong about them and their music. I'm a hip-hophead who loves r&b and pop and I always thought they'd be too poppy and shallow for me. They proved me very wrong they're really exceptional and special and they have something for everyone 💜
I watched an interview first with Jimmy Fallon and they were so fun that I decided to check their music, mic drop was the first mv that popped up when i searched "bts music" on youtube, instantly hooked 😂

They're genuinely great humans who truly care about what they do and about their fans there isn't any group like them inside or outside of k-pop that's why they've managed to become the biggest group in the world touching the lives of millions of people of all ages from all over the world 💜

I started dabbling in BTS jan 2022 but didn’t commit and call myself an Army until Oct 2022. I was still in that denial phase where I was like “ok…that was pretty cool, but I’m sure other groups do that too”. And on top of their music and performances, it’s also their personalities, their actions, their messages, what they stand for, etc
The 2019 MMA awards is in my opinion one of their best lives. You can also check out clips from their Busan concert, any of the other award shoes they have done or honestly, any live performance. BTS always delivers live.
I dnt think the guys would be offended by being called a band. I mean by literal definition they do write, compose, produce, & perform their own music & 6/7 members do play instruments, all 7 if u count Hobi's nose flute skills 🤭. Then depending on who you ask a "boy band" is technically a group of males who sing & perform choreographed routines so 🤷♀️. Also if u wanna get technical some would even consider The Monkees, Jackson 5, & The Osmonds to be boy bands.
I was hooked on them the very first time I heard them! I was like omg who are these guys! I then jumped headfirst into the rabbit hole. They found me at the very moment I needed they them. My only brother had passed then my mama then one of my old order sisters, whom I used to live with at one point then the final straw was my baby sister passing. My heart and mind simply couldn't take it and I went into the deepest depression of my life. Then one day I was just scrolling through RUclips and they came up in my recommendations. I'd heard of them of them of course but never listened to them. The song was Permission to Dance. I can't explain it and I know it sounds dramatic but that song made me wanna get out of bed and live again. So I feel like I owe them my life. I'm 63 and ARMY for life! The "Tear" live by The rap line is a must! It was actually written by the rappers in response to the group possibly breaking up in 2018 and you actually see that at one of the awards shows where they talk about it, V just breaks down. Crying! Definitely watch the tear live version!
Getting to know them thru their other shows e.g. Run BTS, in the soop and bon voyage I think solidified the connection for me. It's heartwarming knowing how they interact with each and what makes them happy.

BTS debuted 13 June 2013 & before that the members had their trainee dates e.g. RM was the first member joined BigHit in 2010 (aged 16). So by 2017, it was their 4th year since debut. Not going to spoil more as you will be watching introduction video soon :) This song is one of the 26 tracks from their Love Yourself album series. Many of the tracks from this series became ARMY's favorites & the albums got them so many achievements including #1 debut on US Billboard 200 & staying on the chart for 100 non-consecutive weeks! I wasn't ARMY from 1st day I knew them. I wasn't a big fan of any hard hip-hop music or looks & BTS's early days. Didn't explore or listen to their music for some years till RUclips randomly recommended "Fire" & "Blood Sweat & Tear", the lyrics & their changed image got me deep in the rabbit hole & became ARMY pretty much in a few days XDD

Thank you for your reaction! It's cool that you're starting to connect with them more. DNA was one of the first BTS songs I heard, along with Idol and Mic Drop. That was back in 2018, and I was just a casual listener/watcher until 2020, when I saw them perform Black Swan on James Corden's show. I was blown away by it. Pure art. I also watched their Carpool Karaoke around that time, and I got hooked on their personalities. Gradually I started watching more of the MVs like ON, Dope, Danger (ooh, you should definitely watch Dope, Danger, Boy in Luv -- not to be confused with Boy WITH Luv -- if you want to see some even younger BTS! They've had "it" since the beginning, truly!). Anyway, as the saying goes, "I only wanted to learn their names..." and that was it. Once you learn their story, start watching Run BTS and other shows, and really explore their discography (with lyrics nearby), it's all over. And it's an amazing time.
Im getting old now and back in the 80s we had bands and groups we fangirled over. I feel sad for kids growing up now that they dont really have that anymore. That was before BTS came along. They have a connection with Army that no other group has. There's something very special about them ❤️
With BTS I fell hard into the rabbit hole, had previously heard Dynamite and Butter but couldn't find the massive appeal others had for them (maybe because I had a toddler and a baby at home and all I saw was Bob the builder and Thomas😅). "Discovered them" September 30th 2023 when finally gave into 3D and Seven and looking at the MVs, seeing JK was from BTS and then I discovered Love Me Again from V and fell in love with his voice, and tbh got curious how that would work and by the second week of October I had already discovered Run BTS and started actually distinguishing them. By the start of November I was full on ARMY to my 3 boys and husband's annoyance 😂
This is already 4 years after their debut! I wouldn't even consider it "old BTS." For some of their older hits, you should check out We Are Bulletproof pt.2 off their debut album to get a sense of where they started and then I Need U, which gave them their first music show win and marked the point where they really started to break through barriers.

I'm usually not really a sticker about listening to songs in order in an album - however, the Love Yourself series is one of those I would highly recommend as it really elevates the entire experience. Love Yourself: Her, Tear and then Answer. Without the context, DNA is still a banger, but with context you can see how it leads to Tear and then finally Answer.

It's a long watch, but GOD the MAMA performance for "Dionysus" is EVERYTHING! Maybe something you watch more on your own since you do more short form content, but I very highly recommend watching it at some point!!! The guys TRULY went all out!!!

I even remember having to write Seventeen names to memorize them and then showing them to my sister (they were seventeen fans since their trainee days in like 2013). But as time goes on, it takes me less than a week. Thinking about this being my 10th year as a kpop fan is crazy, that's half of my life literally.

I've listened to Korean music since 2006 when I was introduced to it through Korean friends. Lena Park, Big Mama, Vibe, SG Wannabe and a few others. Quite a few of my firsts are no longer active, but I still listen to them and keep pulling up the clips from Fantastic Duo where I discovered more veteran singers. Other than that I don't care about Kpop. I'm ARMY. ETA: When it sounds like a love song, it's for ARMY.

If you want live, my personal favorite is the medley from their Osaka concert. It has Dope, Baepsae, Fire, and Idol and has a great mix of how they are when they’re just running around and when they slip into full choreo. Anpanman if you want to see them on a bouncy house (not kidding). Magic Shop if you want to understand how they write songs for Army (there’s one with translations which you want because the lyrics are lovely). A good resource is the channel Enjoy BTS More. She added subtitles to a lot of their live performances.
They started in 2013, so they recorded this song 4 years in... But they had in their pockets 9 albums ;) this was single for their 10 album... Here they were between 20-25. When they started it was 16-21. When they did "Butter" they were 25-30. Now they are 27-32. (JK is youngest 27 Jimin and V are 29 RM and Jhope ate 30 Suga is 31 Jin oldest 32)
About live performances, if you want to appreciate their live vocals I recommend Film Out (from Music Blood). Theres no dancing, it’s all about the vocals. And Magic Shop is also a great place to starts when it comes to live performances, because it really shows how well they connect with army.
For a live performance i recommend "MAMA 2019 live performance" it's wild and quite a long performance they did multiple songs, it is indeed the best live performance ever in kpop (btw it was an award show and not a BTS concert)

BTS debuted 13 June 2013 & before that the members had their trainee dates e.g. RM was the first member joined BigHit in 2010 (aged 16). So by 2017, it was their 4th year since debut. Not going to spoil more as you will be watching introduction video soon :)

I wasn't ARMY from 1st day I knew them. I wasn't a big fan of any hard hip-hop music or looks & BTS's early days. Didn't explore or listen to their music for some years till RUclips randomly recommended "Fire" & "Blood Sweat & Tear", the lyrics & their changed image got me deep in the rabbit hole & became ARMY pretty much in a few days XDD
This song was my official entry into BTS. I had listened to songs before this but this song truly brought me into the fandom.

Thank you for your reaction! It's cool that you're starting to connect with them more. DNA was one of the first BTS songs I heard, along with Idol and Mic Drop. That was back in 2018, and I was just a casual listener/watcher until 2020, when I saw them perform Black Swan on James Corden's show. I was blown away by it. Pure art. I also watched their Carpool Karaoke around that time, and I got hooked on their personalities. Gradually I started watching more of the MVs like ON, Dope, Danger (ooh, you should definitely watch Dope, Danger, Boy in Luv -- not to be confused with Boy WITH Luv -- if you want to see some even younger BTS! They've had "it" since the beginning, truly!). Anyway, as the saying goes, "I only wanted to learn their names..." and that was it. Once you learn their story, start watching Run BTS and other shows, and really explore their discography (with lyrics nearby), it's all over. And it's an amazing time.

Im getting old now and back in the 80s we had bands and groups we fangirled over. I feel sad for kids growing up now that they dont really have that anymore. That was before BTS came along. They have a connection with Army that no other group has. There's something very special about them ❤️

With BTS I fell hard into the rabbit hole, had previously heard Dynamite and Butter but couldn't find the massive appeal others had for them (maybe because I had a toddler and a baby at home and all I saw was Bob the builder and Thomas😅). "Discovered them" September 30th 2023 when finally gave into 3D and Seven and looking at the MVs, seeing JK was from BTS and then I discovered Love Me Again from V and fell in love with his voice, and tbh got curious how that would work and by the second week of October I had already discovered Run BTS and started actually distinguishing them. By the start of November I was full on ARMY to my 3 boys and husband's annoyance 😂
This is already 4 years after their debut! I wouldn't even consider it "old BTS." For some of their older hits, you should check out We Are Bulletproof pt.2 off their debut album to get a sense of where they started and then I Need U, which gave them their first music show win and marked the point where they really started to break through barriers.

I'm usually not really a sticker about listening to songs in order in an album - however, the Love Yourself series is one of those I would highly recommend as it really elevates the entire experience. Love Yourself: Her, Tear and then Answer. Without the context, DNA is still a banger, but with context you can see how it leads to Tear and then finally Answer.

It's a long watch, but GOD the MAMA performance for "Dionysus" is EVERYTHING! Maybe something you watch more on your own since you do more short form content, but I very highly recommend watching it at some point!!! The guys TRULY went all out!!!
The group started as a hip-hop group! If you think they look like babies here, check out "No More Dream" and "We are Bulletproof Pt. 2" from 2013! They really started to evolve musically in their "Dark & Wild" era, but the potential for greatness was always there. I'm loving your journey! 💜
Of course, the official videos are more technical. But live concert performances are pure madness. The sweaty guys, excited by the energy of the stadium, get into such a drive, fool around, clownery, and don’t forget to sing and dance. I would recommend Dionysus, but honestly, the best performance of Dionysus is in the 2019 MMA awards show…it’s 40ish minutes of epic-ness you’ll never forget…everything else pales in comparison.
DNA IS SOOOO GOOD
When I first became a kpop fan in 2014 and 2015 it took me like a month to fully recognize and get to know a group. I even remember having to write Seventeen names to memorize them and then showing them to my sister (they were seventeen fans since their trainee days in like 2013). But as time goes on, it takes me less than a week. Thinking about this being my 10th year as a kpop fan is crazy, that's half of my life literally.

I've listened to Korean music since 2006 when I was introduced to it through Korean friends. Lena Park, Big Mama, Vibe, SG Wannabe and a few others. Quite a few of my firsts are no longer active, but I still listen to them and keep pulling up the clips from Fantastic Duo where I discovered more veteran singers. Other than that I don't care about Kpop. I'm ARMY.

If you want live, my personal favorite is the medley from their Osaka concert. It has Dope, Baepsae, Fire, and Idol and has a great mix of how they are when they’re just running around and when they slip into full choreo. Anpanman if you want to see them on a bouncy house (not kidding). Magic Shop if you want to understand how they write songs for Army (there’s one with translations which you want because the lyrics are lovely). A good resource is the channel Enjoy BTS More. She added subtitles to a lot of their live performances.

About live performances, if you want to appreciate their live vocals I recommend Film Out (from Music Blood). Theres no dancing, it’s all about the vocals. And Magic Shop is also a great place to starts when it comes to live performances, because it really shows how well they connect with army.
