- Since 2010 The Government Has Been Working On Setting Up The First Nuclear Plants In The Country In The Counties Of Kwale And Kilifi. Despite The Huge Investment Amounting To 500 Billions Earmarked For The Project, The Launch Of The Energy Plant In Uyombo Village Is Facing Spirited Resistance From Locals Who Say Their Safety And Economic Drivers Will Be Affected.
Kama hawaitaki , ipelekwe kisumu or homabay
With corruption in kenya,i don't think they will be able to maintain that MF 💯
It may be a disaster waiting to happen

I wish this guys new how this project would be economically viable for them, where i live we have a nuclear power plant and the town is very much live evonomically
Where is that? And can you compare the country to a corrupt country that can’t do regular paid services to its citizens?
Issue is the Government lack of Running things Properly
@@CNyaberatrue that is where the problem is..... A small mistake one day na kenya mzima inakua disastrous
Are you in japan or southkorea
A meltdown will surely happen. This is Kenya.
Kilifi is a tourist heaven.
The government should respect the locals
I hope its not a foreign west conspiracy to dispose off their obsolete equipment that have failed in their countries. Being kenyans we've learned the hard way.
It is funny how they are rightfully scared about nuclear power plants but somehow most people in the video seem to be completely ignorant of what dangers the plant actually poses, even though they are all right to be scared. They are scared for all the wrong reasons and most of the things they are scared about are misconceptions and myths, The government should better educate the locals to the real dangers and benefits for there to be a more constructive dialogue.
Misplaced priorities!!! Have we exhausted solar energy!!!
You can not compare nuclear power with solar energy bwana
Solar is inefficient, nuclear is the cleanest source of energy known to man
Connect the wind energy plant in Turkana to the grid first. Zile tuko nazo hatutumii lakini tunajenga mpya
Ignorance will destroy a lot of people...with electricity more is possible than solely relying on fishing and farming for economic sustenance...problem is...I saw a lawyer and an educator rebuking the plans...the people in society who are meant to think😥
If there is an earthquake, the nuclear power will explode.
The fact is that once the plant is set they shall be evacuated completely with or without compensation. Moreover, how is there safety guaranteed.
Not a single office mentioned how the residents will benefit from the plant… nuclear needs top notch diligence and I doubt these residents safety can be guaranteed.
I support kilifi residents , has Kenya exhausted other ways to harness power or this will another Chernobyl catastrophe.. we like to aim at the sun while we still have so much to work on
Nuclear energy is more efficient than any of those power sources. Nuclear is a 20th century technology, we deserve one
If the project is built and managed "the Kenyan way", I understand their fear 😳
If done properly, it's a blessing. Both for the locals, the nation, the government and the environment.
But when we see that KPLC are unable to manage a simple powering, I do share their fear...
Whoever went to educate them seems to have no clue not the residences
Why Not take it to the northern parts of kenya to improve the infrastructure and economic environment up there
not everywhere NUKE ENERGY can be established,
No matter how much they protest against it, the current regime doesn't put such into consideration at all when it comes to implementation of their plans
Nuclear energy is good for the nation, But when disaster occurs, almost the entire Kilifi county residents will bear lifetime impacts. 😂😂
nuclear is one of the cleanest and safest sources of energy. unlike coal in lamu. and the global nuclear regulator will not allow you to set up without proper nuclear waste disposal protocols. they need to educate and communicate better
It is not about clean or what, the earmarked amount of 500billion is wasteful considering that they expected output will be a paltry 600MW
im adressing what the residents were fearful about. personally I dont think kenya has the resources to even build one@@variousplaces
🤔600mw is not paltry considering that it will be a sustained relentless 600mw 24/7 365 days a year unlike dams and wind which can only reach peak output once in a blue moon under very special circumstances.....🤔FYI most nuclear reactors are designed to produce about 1GW and a nuclear power plant may have multiple reactors i.e. 600MW would be there lowest output for 1 reactor.Don't forget that Owen Falls Dam in Uganda that used to sell electricity to Kenya was originally 50mw and is currently 150mw ,and max 380MW at peak performance.🤔 Quick maths 1 nuclear reactor is equal to 4 River Nile /Lake Victoria powered Owen falls dams at normal performance and equal to 3 Owen falls dams at peak performance, Thats not poultry at all considering that a reactor & all supporting infrastructure fits in an 80m X 400m space. while a dam may require a 2km long wall and a 40 square kilometer basin. The Aswan High Dam is one of the world's largest embankment dams in the world only produces 2gw max but requires a wall and basin so large you can see it from space and costed $1 Billion dollars US in 1971 adjusted for inflation roughly around $6.7 to $7.2 billion USDollars in today's money that's 7.2billionUSD approximately 1.0152 trillion KSH at the given exchange rate of $1=141ksh today. so imagine only 2 reactors would supersede it without worries about droughts, and would be less than half the price of a 2MW dam🤣😅 don't forget that Kenya's total energy requirements is about 2.651GW (2,651mw) or so......... So, 600mw is approximately 22.61% of kenya's total energy requirements, this would completely eliminate the need for fuel /petrol-generated electricity and lower electric bills by almost 40% per unit(kwh) .😆@@variousplaces
@@TheTororist if Kenya has 500 billion to build a railway that most Kenyans will never directly use then it surely can afford a power plant that will make electricity cheaper for every Kenyan who uses electricity. That is 76.54% of all Kenyans which si approximately 40.63 million people.
But the coal project in lamu never went through, based on the EIA.
😂😂😂 Germany has closed its Nuclear sites .....Kenya Wants to Embrace it???......Where will they tupa the nuclear waste?
they have very cheap gas, even with the war still going. if we could get cheap gas from tz, that could be an option.
That's because they have cheap Gas energy. industrial powers like USA, Japan & China heavily depend on Nuclear energy.
Exactly where are the mazigira people ...germany will tupa it in kenya.😢😢😢
Kwani Kenyan government ikiamua kujenga hiyo nuclear plant itawasikia...let Kenya have nuclear plant.
You sound inhuman, but hear this unless the government wants to commit genocide we are not ready for the establishment of that nuclear power plant.
the west is trying their best to get better alternatives to nuclear due to accumulated nuclear waste which outweighs the benefit i wonder kenyan take on this major problem
why dont they build these thing on mt Kenya or ease where
Regulations, Cooling , Accessibility and safety demands them to be located close to large water bodies
It is not about clean or what, the earmarked amount of 500billion is wasteful considering that they expected output will be a paltry 600MW. It doesn't make sense. Tenderpreneurs are overworking

It would also significantly lower electricity bills in Kenya & encourage investors to expand the manufacturing sector. Hizo ndio vitu mtu ya Shakahola Kilifi hawezi fikiria na hio akili ndogo ya Umaskini.
It will initially have a capacity to generate 1000MW but can be ramped up to 4000MW!
The project will solve the country's power problems, more investors will be expected hence creating jobs for many.

What if that neglect occurs???

They are so misinformed😢
They have a point though
For those questioning the location rationale, I think they want to build it near the ocean as a safety precaution... Building it inland is dangerous in an emergency situation.
Imo, the pros outweigh the cons for this kind of project... It will create high quality jobs and improve the local economy in a ripple effect
Facts are south Africa/ Egypt have power plants which only account for less than 5 percent of the electricity in the country...the dangers outweigh the good instead how about solar panel factory which will give jobs and is safe and can work for the whole country
With systemic corruption and incompetence it’s bound to fail sooner than later
With the negligence and corruption in this country, I fear a disaster may occur.
its a really good idea to set up a nuclear plant in the country, but how uncareful and corrupt are we, not only will it affect kilifi but Africa if things were to go wrong
Kenya is not ready for this honestly with all corruption there are short cuts they should ask india why it not having such power plant
India wanaelekea huko. Kumbuka they are china's biggest rival
Infact India wako na 19 nuke reactors
Kenya has had nuclear dreams for very long. What is missing? Why is the government unable to deliver?

Such an arrogant statement. We see how the so called learned have run this world
Address these needs first before destroying communities
So much ignorance and misinformation from the locals and in this comment section. Nuclear plant will thrust Kenya's development forward by milestones.
It's not there faults, the academic dwarf is very rampant, the government should teach and advise them the financial and economic factors, fishing and butterfly rearing is a hot air
The problem with you people is ignorant, operating a nuclear power plant is not an easy task as you may think, any mistake and everyone is doomed, you guys need to do research before BLA BLA BLA like crazy people, those locals have a right to defend themselves from the dangers of those reactors
Just for the sake of those saying the Kilifi locals are shouting without even understanding what nuclear power is all about. Let me assure you the Kilifi locals understand from experience that the powers that be, in Nairobi, don't ever come up with a project in Kilifi or Kwale which is in the interests of the locals. I can give you a thousand examples!
Black people tumeuziwa woga hadi we have absolutely no belief in our abilities. Some countries that struggle more than us had Nuclear in the 70s and 80s.
