@@zerwif Yeah that is a weird part... Which means that both teams have one legit Girlfriend and one delusional? But then again said 16-bit game omits River City Ransom but in a timeline, it seems to take place at a later time (though still in the same year since Kunio is still a 2nd-year then)... Would that mean that Kyoko and Mami are both Riki's Girlfriends but in a different timeline? Ugh... COMPLICATED... Doesn't mean I don't feel bad for our playable cast... They went through all of this for nothing.
@@Jaquan018 Excuse me, can you tell me the name of the saga of this game ?, apparently this is not the first game in the saga, I very interested and I would like to know what was the first installment (Sorry for my English, it's translator English)
For anyone confused about the ending, it's just a play on the localization and the diverging timeline of the series, and it goes like this: The American audience never got exposed to the story timeline where Misako and Kyoko are the boy's girlfriends and therefore the boys, like the audience, don't know who the girls are and don't realize them as girlfriends. The only story timeline that the American audience got is where Mami is Rikki's girlfriend and Hasebe is a potential love interest for Kunio. In Japanese version; however, the boys DO recognize the girls but are also interested in Mami and Hasebe. This is because the Japanese audience was exposed to both timeline so they recognize both pairs of girls.
Actually, it's perfect because it just implies that Kyoko and Misako would apparently be dumb fans (dumb and fan are synonymous here) that don't actually pay attention to or like Kunio games.
This game was about Godai. He manipulate these girls and made chaos in River city, destroying cars, destroying status, destroying Concert, i think he destroyed everything even a Yakuza band and he himself stay in shadows. that explains why he jump into us everywhere we go.
To tell you the truth, I could swear he was going to be the final boss and reveal he was Yakuza all along and had the girls running errands for him. I thought he would've teamed up with Mami and Hasebe to kidnap Misako and Kyoko's boyfriends (I mean, the animation at the beginning of the game shows them hanging out together and Kunio and Riki getting beat up and kidnapped, so I didn't think I was supposed to see that as the girls' hallucinations). I've just beaten this game with my daughter and both of us were very confused by the ending.
I feel like he does have some power as a yakuza, mostly because the last mission he gives you is to take out some snitches in the yakuza group why the hell would he care if he had no relation to it at all lmao. In the end got to love him
Heard from a friend that the Japanese version of the ending has the guys confused about the "kidnapping" but since US never got all the games in the series they apparently didn't get the one that confirmed the relationship and so we have this ending.
They other guy explained how Misako/Kyoko and Hasebe/Mami are from different timelines (or I would rather call universes). This game is like a combination of many different Kunio-kun / River city /double dragon universes, since they got Japanese school names and main character names, English side character names, Japanese shop signs, dollar as currency etc. Another good hint about the cross-universe mess is that, Misako/Kyoko appeared in Kunio tachi no banka, Misuzu also appeared in that game. Probably thats why for Misuzu, Kunio/Riki are close to the girls, and even said "must be why Kunio likes you" after her boss battle. As for the whole "kidnapping", it looks like it just Hasebe/Mami pranked Misako/Kyoko for it. Kunio and Riki were just heading to the spa, and Hasebe/Mami somehow know this arrangement. Thats why Hasebe/Mami were not concerned about the safety of the boys for the slightest, and are everywhere waiting for the main duo. They sure enjoyed the show until they somehow stepped in to the stage and became the secret bosses.
About the kidnapping thing there, here's my theory. If Kunio and Riki were indeed kidnapped, they might have somehow managed to fight off against their captors given how they are capable of beating up bad guys in the previous Kunio-kun games. And after that, they both headed to a spa to relax until Misako and Kyoko dropped in.
Secret boss was a lot easier than the actual boss It’s kinda a bummer that the ending is still the same which kinda blows. Just shows Mami and Hasebe get kicked out the window and the same comic strip is shown Love the game no matter what but there are a lot of confusing things. Ok people don’t play beat em ups for the story but, cmon
Honestly, though. Mami and Hasebe are literally a mirror match, with stuns and juggling included. The hardest part of the battle was trying to hit their flying ghosts. That being said, Sabuko was also pretty easy. Personally, Abobo is the hardest boss; I’ve only beaten him by cheesing invulnerability after damage. :)
Brandon Andres at first I didn’t even know you COULD hit the ghost I’ve just been stepping on their lifeless bodies cuz it did damage or at least to the one that was down
I'm new to the River City franchise but this fight without a doubt is my favorite fight in the entire game. The build up, the MUSIC and even the co op mechanics they used against you. This stuff was well done
Alternate Ending- Kyoko: Should we tell them that Sabu has a kid? *record scratches* Boys: Sabu has a what?! Misako: Oh yeah, you guys didn’t know. He has a daughter. Name’s Sabuko. Kunio: Why didn’t you tell us in the first place?! Misako: Huh? Kyoko: Well, you guys didn’t seem interested and you said something about meeting up with Hasebe and Mami... Boys: Huh??? Misako: We don’t get it either. Hey, where are you guys going?! Kunio: We’re gonna find out what the heck is going on here! Riki: Be right back! Girls:.... Kyoko: Now I’m even more confused. Misako: Same.
Hasebe has never been Kunio’s girlfriend in the series. Only Misako. Unless you count a game that was literally a play in-universe. Her interest in Kunio has been one-sided. Kyoko and Mami actually have roughly equal claim as Riki’s girlfriend - both only explicitly in one game, not counting AU games or similar. Mami has had more presence in the series, but that’s not the same thing. The endings are bad, because they try to be clever but get basic series continuity painfully wrong.
Making this even worse, Misako was repeatedly portrayed as a friend of Kunio’s even before being made his girlfriend, so not even knowing her name makes Kunio look like The World’s Biggest Bag of Filthy Unwashed Cocks,
@@Devilot109 Friend right... Her first appearance ends up with her kissing Kunio. Yeah technically she kisses a whole team as their reward but aside from Kunio they only get a small kiss on the cheek. But yeah we never got it as well since the game was turned into World Cup and all story cutscenes were removed.
When was Kunio ever split into multiple timelines in the first place? Every character from Nekketsu Kouha reoccurred in other games beyond that one more than once. The narrative seems like a failure in that it goes out of its way to make the series seem more complicated than it is.
@@TurtleTitan03 Some games ignore certain other entries thus "splitting the timeline". Main example would be Kunio-tachi no Baika on Super Famicom as the game ignores the events of River City Ransom though acknowledges the first game as well as sports games (Dodgeball and Soccer game). For most part Kyoko wouldn't appear outside of that game. Then we also have River City Underground which acknowledges only USA version of River City Ransom ignoring every single other entry in Kunio kun franchise.
In my opinion, this is how River City Girls should've ended. You can have Misako and Kyoko crash land in the bathhouse after they kick the villain out of the window, but when they find their boyfriends naked things go a little differently. Misako: What are you doing here?! Kunio: We escaped 10 minutes ago; we came here to wash up. Riki: We sent you a text letting you know we were okay. Did it not go through? Both girls check their phones only to discover both their phones batteries have died. Misako: Oh, I guess we didn't get your text after all😓. Kyoko: All that matters is that I've got my Riki back safe and sound, (she says as she hugs him😍). Riki: please don't hug me while I'm naked, ( he says blushing 😳). Sometime later as the two couples leave the bathhouse, Misako asks. Misako: so how did you guys escape? Kunio: Well, we thought we'd leave one unanswered question for the fans to speculate about. Kyoko: Oh come on, we can keep a secret. So the boys lean in to whisper in their respective girlfriends' ears. Misako and Kyoko's facial expressions shift from shock😯, to anger😡, to disgust🤢, and finally laughter😂. Our four heroes walk off into the sunset.
Post credit scene: Little do our heroes know that Hasebe and Mami are watching from the shadows. Hasebe: Damn those cows🤬! They've ruined everything. Mami: Their not entirely to blame. Remember Riki and Kunio escaped as I anticipated they would; Riki was never one to wait around for the calvary, it's part of what drew me to him. Hasebe: I thought we were trying to make them our boyfriends again? Mami: And we will in due time. Now we know what we're up against we can put together a new and improved plan to destroy the River City Girls once and for all. Hasebe then takes out a locket with Kunio's face in it and says; "my sweet Kunio, soon you will be mine, whether you want to be or not." She then starts to laugh like Karin from street fighter, and Mami says as she plugs her ears "we've got to work on your evil laugh."
.....I would play that Trash the whole mario universe looking for the bros. Beat up bowser. Donkey kong Wario and waluigi only for there to be a big misunderstanding
The Japanese version of the ending is different from the English version since in that version, Misako and Kyoko really are Kunio and Riki's girlfriends but the boys are cheating on them with Mami and Hasebe. Not sure why the Japanese version change it.
Short version: The joke in the English version is based around how the game where Misako and Kyoko were dating them never got translated and is very obscure, so it's treated as something like a forgotten first date. The first hint to Western players is that the playable girls aren't the canonical girlfriends of Riki and Kunio, while the two NPCs are. The joke doesn't work the same in Japan since they actually did get the game, so they changed it to implied two-timing. Either way it's probably meant to be silly and meta.
I gotta say this game was one of my favourite beatem ups i've ever played, yeah it's not perfect, but it's still its amazing and one of my favourite game of 2019.
This ending... makes no sense, in my opinion. They explain it all.. by breaking the fourth wall? Just because the main characters dated Kunio and Riki only in one game, the in-universe Kunio and Riki in this game don't remember them? Can it really work that, way, that the characters' memories are somehow dependant on the 4th wall? Yeah I get that it's a silly joke, but still weird to me how this works. Another thing to note: At the start of the game, Kyoko got a text message and a picture that Kunio and Riki have been kidnapped. This is NEVER explained in the game. Who sent it? Also the opening cutscene clearly shows us how they are kidnapped by security guards. And the main characters on a double date in a restaurant. So, the ending means that these didn't actually happen? If so, then it would have been nice to get some justification why. Like just confirm that they are Misako/Kyoko's dream or something, even that would have been better than nothing. Right now it only comes as "we tricked you with this cutscene ha ha". Also didn't expect Misako and Kyoko to be this much delusional, I felt that came out of nowhere. Especially when this game comes after Kunio tachi no Banka (for those who don't know, that's the 16-bit game they are referring to), and in that game, Misako and Kyoko are like.. pretty normal. Also assuming that this game takes place after Kunio Tachi no Banka, it's hard for me to think that Kunio and Riki would forget the girls. They go through some pretty scary situations in that game (including one where Misako and Kyoko get seriously injured. I won't spoil the details). So it's weird for me to hear that they just "forgot". So after thinking about this for a while, maybe it just is that Banka doesn't take place in this timeline. Then fine.. But if that's the case, then how can Hasebe and Mami be aware of it? Sorry for complaining, this game is actually pretty great in other areas. Fighting is fun, visuals and music are very good too. I can clearly see that a lot of love went into making this game. Just to be clear, I had fun with it. I've been a fan of this series as long as I can remember, so maybe I am taking the story/ending more seriously than intended. Again, I get that it's meant to be a funny meta joke. I just don't think it was done well. (Just a side note, you can find a longplay video of Kunio tachi no Banka here in youtube. If you played River City Girls and want to see the game that inspired it, go take a look and see Misako and Kyoko's first adventure together.)
I too was disappointed to see in the end we play as some delusion psycho girls who "think" kunio and riki are their respective boyfriends. The entire time i was playing RCG I was really hoping they were the girlfriends and there be some happy ending.
This is what I hate about WayForward handling Technos properties, they make the writing too damn corny and meta while also eliminating all sense of drama. If this game actually respected its roots, the girls would have retorted the "dating them in one game" line with, "yeah, and we got SHOT in that game too, so we earned that gf status! Check the scars, bitches!".
Heh, that would have been a great answer. Or the fact that Hasebe never has been Kunio's official girlfriend before, it was just hinted and supposedly one-sided.
@@Ask4This The thing is this game treats its source material with surprising respect outside of two points. Yamada's flashback and the ending (alongside with secret boss fight and its dialogue). Both serving to insert Hasabe as Kunio's Girlfriend. Except it never happened at any single point of the franchise. So what was a joke again? "You dated them in like 1 16-bit game"? Backed up by a girl who didn't get to date any of the guys even once... Ouch. It's also worth Noting Misako showed up early in the franchise being established as one of Kunio's closer friends. Obscure Girlfriend she might be but better obscure role than nonexistent one.
They should have just done it the other way around. Mami and Hasebe fighting the town only to find Misako and Kyoko kidnapped them as obsessive exes. Woulda been a nice nod to the Snes game too. No 4th wall breaking or confusing story needed either. Still enjoyed the game tho. Misako and Kyoko are cooler anyway.
I would not like this game if i had to play as Mami and Hasabae, assuming the personalites are the same. What would have been pretty cool is you fought each other half way through the game and then they have to work together to get Kunio and Riki back.
@@darienb1127 they would probably have different personalities Because Heroes need atleast One Thing that Makes Then Likable, They would Also Have more Interesting Designs I think
Like most people who played this game, my mind was pretty boggled after seeing that ending... So out of sheer curiosity, I decided to do a little research on the Kunio Kun series, and see what information I could dig up involving the connections between these characters in past games, and boy was it quite a trip... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Misako and Kyoko actually were Kunio and Riki's girlfriends in older games of the Kunio Kun series. I'm not very knowledgeable of the Kunio Kun series as a whole. But after doing a bit of research, I've learned that Misako and Kyoko not only looked different (like Misako having blue hair for example), but they also had pretty different personalities, you'd hardly recognize them as the awesome girls in this game! From what I've read Kyoko was described as "A beautiful girl with a ponytail and a blue blazer, she is fully loyal to Riki and is his type of girl. Although younger than Riki, she keeps him on a tight leash with her firecracker personality." As for Misako, she was depicted as Kunio's girlfriend in multiple games, and they've even kissed at one point in Soccer Hen. Just recently I saw some gameplay of an old Kunio Kun game, and one of the cutscenes showed Misako and Kyoko getting shot right in front of Kunio and Riki, who then held their girlfriends in their arms as it seemed like they were about do die. I can't read Japanese (and I couldn't translate the dialogue either), but just from the looks of it, it looked really sad and heartbreaking, especially for Kunio and Riki!... Sorry if this is starting to sound off topic, I was just trying to find examples of their relationship/connection and whatnot... Anyway, I've heard some people saying that this game is either a prequel to other Kunio Kun games (before these girls were officially dating them), or an alternate timeline, considering that Riki dating Mami in the classic game River City Ransom was a whole different story. So my best guess is that Kunio and Riki were dating one of the pairs at one point in the Kuino Kun series but then broke up and hooked up with the other girls later, or perhaps they had different girlfriends in different timelines or incarnations, which weren't meant to connect... Until now that is! Although this game might not actually be part of the canon Kunio Kun series at all, and might just be a non-canon spinoff with no official continuity to the Kunio Kun series, and not to mention also kind of a parody to the series as it involves lots of humor, cameos, 4th wall breaks etc. I'm not sure if the whole "Who are their girlfriends?" situation has been a controversial topic since before River City Girls existed or not. But if it was, I think the way it's portrayed here in this game is actually kind of amusing! If you ask me, it's kinda like a similar scenario to how Sonic The Hedgehog was in love with Sally in one incarnation/timeline, and Amy in another, and I think we know how controversial that was amongst fans right? XD Or maybe I just overthought this whole thing. I tend to do that sometimes... I guess I just needed to really clear out my mind after seeing that ending. (Like cleaning out dust in an attic) I'll admit, I haven't seen a video game ending that hit my head with a ton of bricks like that since Conker's Bad Fur Day! XD
I hope this game will have a sequel where Misako and Kyoko go save the town fir whatever reasons but meeting their ex boyfriends(Kinue and Rikki) and kicking their ass. After the fight Kinue and Rikki realised they might missed real good girlfriends for them and tried to get them back as joke ending
Well according to this as well as the actual ending they were never their girlfriends to begin with so basically they believe themselves to be that you know psychotic women trying to claim someone is their boyfriend when they were never there boyfriend to begin with
LuckoDaStars in the first cutscene where the girls see that junio an rikki get "kidnapped", you can actually see that they're not getting kidnaped, and for bosses of the game, nobody knows what the hell the girls where talking about or whether they're boyfriends could be
Yes well according to this but if this is related to the whole Kunio game series they are officially still dating from the japanese version that wasn't released in the U.S.
I hope for that too, but seriously though for the boys to forget their first and main girlfriends that although did became their girlfriends in one game they still got shot by the yakuza for the boys and let's admit Kyoko and Misako is the total loyal girlfriend material. P.S. I remember Kunio and Riki likes Bad girls, Kyoko and Misako from the first game were consider badass themselves, while in earlier games Mami was portrayed as a Damsel in distress and Hasebe as Yamada's girlfriend who help Riki and Kunio because of Hasebe is interest in Kunio. It was only in this game to they seem different but still I'm rooting for Kyoko and Misako and hopefully this game has a sequel with a much better ending.
I get what they were going for, and it is kinda funny. But from what I've seen thus far, this ending feels more like a slap in the face rather than a gut buster for most people. Hopefully in later patches, or a new edition of the game, we'll get a new ending that's more satisfactory than this one.
I'm right there with you. I think I sort of get what they were going for. But me personally? I just wanted a game where two badass guys get jumped and kidnapped, and it's up their girls to prove how badass they are by pulling their guys out of the fire. I mean, after all, the guys beat up a goddamn yakuza member after he shot the girls.
PervertedNovaxc3 wait but that’s still the game tho, the guys get jumped and the girls sorta saved the day. (I mean sorta because they showed they were badass but didn’t really save the boys)
@@spo0oky981 Not really, the twist makes it so now the girls are just two (admittedly badass) psychopaths who can't deal with the fact that they got dumped and now stalk the guys and beat up several random people. That said, the question still lingers of who sent Kyouko that photo and just WHY the guys were getting into that van. But I doubt the game particularly cares about answering that question.
PervertedNovaxc3 I took a little time to think about it and to be honest I kinda think you’re right. I still think as a whole this game is a great beat em ups
@@spo0oky981 Oh for sure, the game is most definitely a decent beat em up game. That I won't deny. It's just the ending fell flat for me, and defeating Hasabe and Mami doesn't really change things.
I actually predicted that we were playing crazy exes the whole time... ...damn, the girls just beat up the ENTIRE town just to reunite with two guys who would rather just slap them with a restraining order and kicked their actual girlfriends out a window...
I wouldn't call them exes since they are no signs of Kunio and Riki breaking up with Misako and Kyoko in the game. In Japan the girls are officially their girlfriends, Hasebe and Kami were from the U.S., well there isn't any sign of Hasebe being Kunio girlfriend but still...The ending is really unsatisfactory because this feel likes the official first Girlfriends from the Kunio game series were replaced by two girls from the ransom game without a bat of the eye, and the boys just forgot about them. It's cruel in my point of view.

I'll be honest I just finished the game and I am ticked. I did read the comments explaining things, but seriously! They don't know their names and to top it all off they look like they could fight but the girls one shot them. I hope they do add a new ending maybe like dlc where the girls actually aren't seeing them like they used two and the boys broke up with the two prissy jerks. Or something. I want to see things turn out okay between them. Especially since the opening leads us to believe they are dating.
Wait, if in this context, the main girls weren't dating the main cast, then why send them the text of Kunio and Riki getting kidnapped? And, were they actually kidnapped, or was it a wierd ploy to the girls off thier tails?
I was pretty bummed out by the ending at first but the farther away from it I get, the more I like it. Even outside of the meta-joke, it makes perfect sense. Throughout the game we see Misako and Kyoko jump from one wild assumption to the next, beating the shit out of people that have no connection to Kunio and Rikki before running off to find their next victim. They are idiots, full stop. So it makes perfect sense that they would delusionally pursue the boys. The game telegraphs this the whole time. They don't know any of Kunio or Rikki's friends, they have no idea where to find them, they never think of calling the boys or their parents for information (cause they don't have their numbers or addresses) and Mami and Hasebe tell you over and over again, they are in fact the ones dating Kunio and Rikki.
So wait, let me see if I understand The two girls we play as were only in one game that was never released outside of Japan, so in this game's canon, they're obsessed ex's, while the secret boss girls are the actual girlfriends? Did I get it right? Cuz tbh reading into this just makes my head hurt.
Well...Hasabe is actually a character named Yamada's g/f but she betrayed him to help Riki and Kunio and she has a one sided love for Kunio, Kyoko was Riki's g/f for two games while Mami has been his g/f in more games. Since most of the games in the Kunio-kun series haven't been released in the US it makes it rather confusing and it makes the fans of the Kunio-kun series mad, especially with how Mami and Hasabe have been redesigned into snobby popular girls. That's why you see such a divide in the comments of this vid..you got fans of the series not at all happy with this while people who have minimal knowledge of the series loving it. Personally I find it a fun beat em up and I would enjoy playing as Mami and Hasabe in a sequel game..I liked their combo moves as the boss and the fact that when you beat one the other goes into rage mode and takes jack all for damage was a neat little thing.
You beat the game and get the first half of the heart key, you break all 25 statues and you get the second half, you equip both of them in the loiter mode (that's how I did it) and then go up to where you fought the final boss and Mami and Hasabe will be there instead.
Dude does good work and the new versions of Kyoko and Misako fit in with is work well..well..Kyoko is pretty close to how she's been but Misako from what I've read is actually the manager of the high school's soccer team..Riki and Kunio got her to torture a guy by kicking him in the groin because of her strong kicks..she's a bit more violent in this game, actually not really liking delinquents with Kunio being the only exception apparently from her original showings in the Kunio-kun game series.
Misako = Buttercup (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Sam Manson (Danny Phantom) Kyoko = Blossom (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Jenny Wakeman (My Life as a Teenage Robot) Hasebe = Numbuh 3 (Codename: Kids Next Door) and Agent Xero (The Modifyers) Mami = Bubbles (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Leni Loud (The Loud House)
I love this ending than the new one they made for the sequel's sake. The the adventure, you're given hints that suggest they're actually crazy fangirls.
Never got why they went this route considering Tokyo Rumble was localized and Misako and Kyoko were both in that game. I guess Hasabe and Mami were just gaslighting the girls
can they make an official manga and anime for this cause that would be awesome. if they did that would be amazing! i mean the manga could be simple to do since i mean there are cutscenes in a manga format they can do it.
If any one keeps getting a crash during the second phase of this fight on ps4, DO NOT HIT THE INVINCIBLE BOSS TOO MUCH, ONLY STOMP THE DOWNED ONE (or hit only the ghost) while avoiding the others attacks. Even if it’s just to take them down for a little while so you can stomp the downed one, don’t do it. Hitting the invincible one too much causes the game to crash for whatever reason.
they're certainly loyal to each other...one goes down and the other just does a crazy super power up...wonder why she never tried reviving her partner though? Lol...unrelated not I feel kinda foolish didn't know you could attack the ghost, I just stomped the ghost's body and that defeats them too
M&K: …LOVE!!! (H&M fall down, then they hear a voice that sounds kind of like Risky Boots) Voice: You have failed in your mission. You shall be forgotten in death! (H&M disappear in a purple puff of smoke)
I don't know if we should call them ex girlfriends because it was never really official since the game kyoko and misako were in and are kunio and riki's girlfriend never made it to the U.S. because apparently they considered that game to be too violent for gamers in the 90s in the U.S. which I have to say is ridiculous.
Rip I guess kinda shallow since you spoiled the ending for yourself. :V And New game + has neat interactions with the boyfriends since you can play as them.
....Straight up honest I wouldn't mind playing as Mami and Hasabe..I like the game and enjoy power bombing the shit outta everyone as Kyoko but the fact is Mami just based on games in the actual franchise has more claim to Riki than Kyoko as Kyoko was only his g/f in two games and Misako has more claim than Hasabe as Kunio's g/f..Hasabe was only his love interest in one game while Misako is his actual g/f in more than one game..so..yeah..if anything the final bosses should be Kyoko and Hasabe
Since they referenced it here; why not give us a remake release of Banka (I forget the rest of the name) and also release it in the U.S with the original as an unlockable or pre-order bonus?
Nice vid. I only got 24 statues on my first playthrough, despite using a video guide. Wish there was a list in--game. Seems really tough to keep track. Can I get the last statue on a NG+?
No as far as I’m aware Just started playing as Kunio and at least moves are different for everyone but the story is told the same Makes it funny like “We’re looking for Kunio” Bruh I’m right here
You know if there were to be a story after this game, Misako could still be a bit bitter about not being recognized, but she's slowly starting to be Kunio's friend, with bitter tension with Masabe. With Kyoko on the other hand, she'll still be Riki obsessive, with the imaginary hope she will be with Riki again. Also I absolutely love the voice acting for our heroes, heroines, and many others. I'm glad WayForward and Arc System Works did this amazing piece. And I look forward to some more River City games. And a thought just came in mind, maybe we could have Kunio for Smash
Beat the game once and destroy all Saba Statues to get both Mami and Hasebe Charms. Equip both, and enter the final boss area. The fourth wall break of “but Sabuko’s supposed to be the final boss” is there because it assumes you’ve already beaten the game once. :)
@@sayakamikireal You mean, when loading a cleared save file instead of choosing new game+, we chose the other option and go back to the tower again? I thought we needed to be in a NG+ to access the secret boss.
I like to say I did cheated because i used the tank button and kept switching to other accesories when dodging and attacking. I ain't giving any crap to the two.
Ugh... Shin Nekketsu Kouha - Kunio-tachi no Banka (J) [T+Eng1.00_Aeon Genesis] full english translation were made at least five years before River City Girls were even created, so western gamers could know the original story. Misako and Kyoko are long time girlfriends of Kunio and Riki, It's 100% confirmed by SNES game. So, both original and new endings did not make any sense. Forget this weird crap and play SNES game, Aeon Genesis made a great job translating it.
Translation: we wanted to make a 2d brawler based on a game we like and made it about the girlfriends so we wouldn't get sued unfortunately that kinda fucks with continuity so we just kinda rolled with it.
Mami and Haseba real the real girlfriends though while Kyoko and Misako don't even have a surname of their names written in Kanji. (Haseba and Mami do). So basically the story of this game is that Kyoko and Misako are two somewhat psycho girls that stalk Riki and Kunio believe the two of them to be their boyfriends... (because Riki and Kunio basically fooled around with them a bit because the two girls put out.) So the whole game is seen through the lens of two crazy people... I.E any villains traits are just how the two wacko girls imagine their rivals. I.E the two villains of the game are actually Kyoko and Misako. would have been funny if the game had ended with a 2nd secret boss fight where they decided to attack Riki and Kunio to make them "to come to their senses" (see being yandere), all the while the two boys were handicapped because they were only wearing towels.
This ending is still fucking unsatisfactory. First time I've seen the original ending I thought the guys were just joking. Are Hasebe and Mami always such assholes in the other games?
this game was great but the flaws kept it from being awesome but wished they had a retro music seting after you beat the game plays a mixure of double dragon and kunio music i think it should have been kunio and rikis kids its been like 30+years since the first games make them badass parents teaching them how to fight
Wait I got a different ending. After the fall and they find them showering the boys know Kyoko and Misako as their girlfriends and invite them to Merv burger. Is it different if you have the Mami and Hasebe charms equipped?
The thing is that they wanted to simply make a "reverse roles" scenario....but someone at the studio told them that the other girls were "more cannon"........
"You guys dated them for, like one 16-bit game."
Well, that explains the weird ending. I guess?
Other weird part, in nearly every other game Kunio rejects Hasebe or she's with Yamada.
not even released in the us. that is freaking hilarious XD
it is an odd sorta anticlimax but it is kinda hilarious.
@@Jaquan018 Excuse me, can you tell me the name of the saga of this game ?, apparently this is not the first game in the saga, I very interested and I would like to know what was the first installment
(Sorry for my English, it's translator English)
This is technically part of the Double Dragon, River City, and Kunio-Kun franchises.
For anyone confused about the ending, it's just a play on the localization and the diverging timeline of the series, and it goes like this:
The American audience never got exposed to the story timeline where Misako and Kyoko are the boy's girlfriends and therefore the boys, like the audience, don't know who the girls are and don't realize them as girlfriends.
So who are the real bad guys? Misako and Kyoto who basically beat up most of the town or Miami Haesbe who really didn’t do much?
It... there aren’t multiple timelines. You’re fake nerding all over this,

Woooow 0-0
Yeah, Hasabe is Cristina Vee and Mami is Sarah Williams.
Cristina Vee. The GOAT
In the end got to love him
@@galaxystorm8645 he might be the final boss of the sequel
Cool theory i would love to see a sequel this game rocked
Heard from a friend that the Japanese version of the ending has the guys confused about the "kidnapping" but since US never got all the games in the series they apparently didn't get the one that confirmed the relationship and so we have this ending.
That's about right, though since it was developed by Wayforward they probably made the English ending first. (Or maybe not, it doesn't really matter)
Secret boss was a lot easier than the actual boss
It’s kinda a bummer that the ending is still the same which kinda blows. Just shows Mami and Hasebe get kicked out the window and the same comic strip is shown
Love the game no matter what but there are a lot of confusing things.
I'll just make my own ending, with blackjack and hookers. Its abit unreasonable to expect so much from a $30 game that hired youtubers as VAs.
Yeah, let's make stupid statements about the genre cause this game has a stupid story, lol.
Maybe because, you know, they're not trained fighters. They're just two regular girls.
Alternate Ending-
Kyoko: Should we tell them that Sabu has a kid?
*record scratches*
Boys: Sabu has a what?!
5:20 That be breaking the fourth wall.
Blossom Bubbles and Buttercup finally reunited
If Blossom acted like Bubbles, yeah.
Making this even worse, Misako was repeatedly portrayed as a friend of Kunio’s even before being made his girlfriend, so not even knowing her name makes Kunio look like The World’s Biggest Bag of Filthy Unwashed Cocks,
Oh, there’s also the unfortunate implications to the whole thing.
The real funny part is that this ending totally changes the context of almost every scene in the game- and makes a lot of things make more sense.
Post credit scene:
Little do our heroes know that Hasebe and Mami are watching from the shadows.

Hasebe: I thought we were trying to make them our boyfriends again?
Mami: And we will in due time. Now we know what we're up against we can put together a new and improved plan to destroy the River City Girls once and for all.
Hasebe then takes out a locket with Kunio's face in it and says; "my sweet Kunio, soon you will be mine, whether you want to be or not." She then starts to laugh like Karin from street fighter, and Mami says as she plugs her ears "we've got to work on your evil laugh."
this is amazing
This is like if Peach and Daisy were the villains in a Mario game.
.....I would play that

Friend: whats the strongest move in the game
Me: well I don't kno- D A B B I N G 1:00
We play as delusional stalker exes. The photo at the beginning probably isn’t even real
haha I knew the story would be bad the second I saw Mami being potrayed as a villain.
Relax it’s a beat’em up game calm down
I too was disappointed to see in the end we play as some delusion psycho girls who "think" kunio and riki are their respective boyfriends. The entire time i was playing RCG I was really hoping they were the girlfriends and there be some happy ending.
Maybe a sequel or a spin-off will happen in the future?
This is what I hate about WayForward handling Technos properties, they make the writing too damn corny and meta while also eliminating all sense of drama. If this game actually respected its roots, the girls would have retorted the "dating them in one game" line with, "yeah, and we got SHOT in that game too, so we earned that gf status! Check the scars, bitches!".
Heh, that would have been a great answer. Or the fact that Hasebe never has been Kunio's official girlfriend before, it was just hinted and supposedly one-sided.
Be grateful you have a comfortable because in life only pussies enjoy "so dark" edgy shit to contrast to their dull life. its a game lighten up.
I love how they break the 4th wall
They should have just done it the other way around. Mami and Hasebe fighting the town only to find Misako and Kyoko kidnapped them as obsessive exes. Woulda been a nice nod to the Snes game too. No 4th wall breaking or confusing story needed either. Still enjoyed the game tho.
Misako and Kyoko are cooler anyway.
I would not like this game if i had to play as Mami and Hasabae, assuming the personalites are the same. What would have been pretty cool is you fought each other half way through the game and then they have to work together to get Kunio and Riki back.

XD
Or maybe I just overthought this whole thing. I tend to do that sometimes... I guess I just needed to really clear out my mind after seeing that ending. (Like cleaning out dust in an attic)
I'll admit, I haven't seen a video game ending that hit my head with a ton of bricks like that since Conker's Bad Fur Day!

It was only in this game to they seem different but still I'm rooting for Kyoko and Misako and hopefully this game has a sequel with a much better ending.
you spelled Kunio wrong, also Riki only has 1 "k"

They don't know any of Kunio or Rikki's friends, they have no idea where to find them, they never think of calling the boys or their parents for information (cause they don't have their numbers or addresses) and Mami and Hasebe tell you over and over again, they are in fact the ones dating Kunio and Rikki.
this is the equivalent of princess peach and pauline fighting eachother over mario
i feel so bad for these two girls those two boys arent their right person
So wait, let me see if I understand
The two girls we play as were only in one game that was never released outside of Japan, so in this game's canon, they're obsessed ex's, while the secret boss girls are the actual girlfriends?
Did I get it right? Cuz tbh reading into this just makes my head hurt.
Pretty much
Um...yeah, basically.
"This boss becomes available after beating the game and destroying all Sabu Statues" ok but how? I only have one key.
I am pretty sure that it gives you the other one without telling you.
You beat the game and get the first half of the heart key, you break all 25 statues and you get the second half, you equip both of them in the loiter mode (that's how I did it) and then go up to where you fought the final boss and Mami and Hasabe will be there instead.
@@ShinKyuubi where what?
@@nickydrews3670 Have you destroyed all the statues? Or have you beat the game?
@@ShinKyuubi Yes and Yes
Who else saw the recent crossover of [Porkchop 'n Flatscreen] X [River City Girls]?
I did. Loved it.
A m a z i n g
Not the most active player of Beat'em'ups but holy shit am i recommending this game to any and everyone
Misako = Buttercup (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Sam Manson (Danny Phantom)
Kyoko = Blossom (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Jenny Wakeman (My Life as a Teenage Robot)
Hasebe = Numbuh 3 (Codename: Kids Next Door) and Agent Xero (The Modifyers)
Mami = Bubbles (The Powerpuff Girls franchise) and Leni Loud (The Loud House)
How did get character cast!
Your comment just made my day.
Do you know where some of the harder to find statues are? I'm missing one and it's driving me nuts.
There's already a guide on RUclips
can they make an official manga and anime for this cause that would be awesome. if they did that would be amazing! i mean the manga could be simple to do since i mean there are cutscenes in a manga format they can do it.
Lol...unrelated not I feel kinda foolish didn't know you could attack the ghost, I just stomped the ghost's body and that defeats them too
Wow. This is between upsetting and super brilliant.
This explains why every setting in the game is a weird mixture of Japanese and American
M&K: …LOVE!!!
(H&M fall down, then they hear a voice that sounds kind of like Risky Boots)
Voice: You have failed in your mission. You shall be forgotten in death!
(H&M disappear in a purple puff of smoke)
I hope the sequel drops the meta aspect and gives and ending that isnt confusing without doing research and annoying regardless if you do XD
Haseba never looked like Yamada so much, probably is because this time it's not Kunio vision.
Awww dammit, I thought Misako and Kyoko were waifu material, but in the end they were just a couple of Yandere ex-girlfriends.
I don't know if we should call them ex girlfriends because it was never really official since the game kyoko and misako were in and are kunio and riki's girlfriend never made it to the U.S. because apparently they considered that game to be too violent for gamers in the 90s in the U.S. which I have to say is ridiculous.
@@pichs.7829 Ahhh... The 80's and 90's, the time censorship was still a major thing in the States.
Okay wow um breaking the fourth wall aren't you girls
Honestly. The ending kind of kills the game for me. I was going to buy it, but now I'll pass.
Rip I guess kinda shallow since you spoiled the ending for yourself. :V And New game + has neat interactions with the boyfriends since you can play as them.
mami's ghost is like The Binding of Isaac characters 3:26
These two were hilarious the entire game.
1:14 Did she just... 🤦♂️
Yes and it's one of the most effective attacking in the game
👌
Im sure Jeff and Mibobo from Double Dragon can relate...
hasebe's voice is cute
Ummm is it weird that I like the blonde girl a little better than the four girls
yes, she's the ugliest one lol
....Straight up honest I wouldn't mind playing as Mami and Hasabe..I like the game and enjoy power bombing the shit outta everyone as Kyoko but the fact is Mami just based on games in the actual franchise has more claim to Riki than Kyoko as Kyoko was only his g/f in two games and Misako has more claim than Hasabe as Kunio's g/f..Hasabe was only his love interest in one game while Misako is his actual g/f in more than one game..so..yeah..if anything the final bosses should be Kyoko and Hasabe
Kyoko: Sailor Moon
Misako: Sailor Mercury
Hasebe: Sailor Mars
Mami: Sailor Venus
This was definitely one of the stupidest Kunio games I've played.
So, after beating the entire game, Kunio and Riki revealed themself to be two assholes.
Nice
Dont you hate it when this game takes place on April first?.Those two got april fooled hard!!.😂😂😂.
Since they referenced it here; why not give us a remake release of Banka (I forget the rest of the name) and also release it in the U.S with the original as an unlockable or pre-order bonus?
Broke all statues (even got the achievement), yet the game didn't give me any charm. Impossible to fight this secret boss... @_@
Mami it"s Rottytops from Shantae series))
So a lot of people attacked the spirit instead of the body
Nice vid.
I only got 24 statues on my first playthrough, despite using a video guide. Wish there was a list in--game.
Seems really tough to keep track. Can I get the last statue on a NG+?
I can. The game crashed three times when trying this.
Maybe only one player can have both locket halves equipped.
Mami and Hasabe are actually quite cute and charming, especially Mami. If I were a high school guy at her school, I'd SO have a crush on her.
Is there any difference if you play as the boys?
No as far as I’m aware
Just started playing as Kunio and at least moves are different for everyone but the story is told the same
Makes it funny like
“We’re looking for Kunio”
Bruh I’m right here
But then who kidnapped them? And who sent Kyoko that text messages?
need an anime, but now
You know if there were to be a story after this game, Misako could still be a bit bitter about not being recognized, but she's slowly starting to be Kunio's friend, with bitter tension with Masabe.
And a thought just came in mind, maybe we could have Kunio for Smash
did they change the secret ending? i finished the game and the boys end up being with the main characters.
They are Using The Power Of Love
OOF! CRUNCH! OUCH!
Thank God they fixed the ending.
Riki and Kunio is cheating on Misako and Kyoko? 😂 Idk
Ol' girl did a dab!
I'm dead!
where to find this secret boss? what should be done?
Beat the game once and destroy all Saba Statues to get both Mami and Hasebe Charms. Equip both, and enter the final boss area.
The fourth wall break of “but Sabuko’s supposed to be the final boss” is there because it assumes you’ve already beaten the game once. :)
Do you need to be on NG+ to do this?
Loiter works?
I've the 2 charms and have beaten the game once
You dont need ng+, just the charms
@@sayakamikireal You mean, when loading a cleared save file instead of choosing new game+, we chose the other option and go back to the tower again?
I thought we needed to be in a NG+ to access the secret boss.
@@IrrelevantBecauseReasons yeah. You don't need to be in ng+, just loiter and go back to tbe top with Hasabe and Mami's charms equipped
@@sayakamikireal I wish I knew this before starting a new game ahah xD
Anyway, thanks for clarifying that! :)
Mi: OMG kill an Mami
Kyle: You fastors 3:22
I like to say I did cheated because i used the tank button and kept switching to other accesories when dodging and attacking. I ain't giving any crap to the two.
- I'm confused. Is it a good or a bad ending?
- It's and ending and that's it!
If your ending relies on "Haha, look how funny and meta we are!" as a plot device then it is terrible and fucking pointless
Forget this weird crap and play SNES game, Aeon Genesis made a great job translating it.
why did u show the ‘secret’ boss in the thumbnail
Translation: we wanted to make a 2d brawler based on a game we like and made it about the girlfriends so we wouldn't get sued unfortunately that kinda fucks with continuity so we just kinda rolled with it.
Mami and Haseba real the real girlfriends though while Kyoko and Misako don't even have a surname of their names written in Kanji. (Haseba and Mami do). So basically the story of this game is that Kyoko and Misako are two somewhat psycho girls that stalk Riki and Kunio believe the two of them to be their boyfriends... (because Riki and Kunio basically fooled around with them a bit because the two girls put out.)
So the whole game is seen through the lens of two crazy people...
Thank you
Game is awesome glad I just own it now!
Check it out again, game got updated with a new ending.
This ending is still fucking unsatisfactory. First time I've seen the original ending I thought the guys were just joking. Are Hasebe and Mami always such assholes in the other games?
Why Mami Looks like...Vanilla from Sugar Sugar Rune?
I doesnt know that you can kick the angel of the fainted girl in the air! I always fight in the floor and kick the unconscious girl in the floor LOL
this game was great but the flaws kept it from being awesome but wished they had a retro music seting after you beat the game plays a mixure of double dragon and kunio music
i think it should have been kunio and rikis kids its been like 30+years since the first games make them badass parents teaching them how to fight
Wait I got a different ending. After the fall and they find them showering the boys know Kyoko and Misako as their girlfriends and invite them to Merv burger. Is it different if you have the Mami and Hasebe charms equipped?
According to TCRF, that was before the update
That was very abrupt, did they run out of money or something?
Well, it had been in development for three years...
The thing is that they wanted to simply make a "reverse roles" scenario....but someone at the studio told them that the other girls were "more cannon"........
