  • In this lesson we help George who is struggling at the net in doubles. He finds that the shuttle is just flying past him and he can't make good contact when he tries to intercept.

    Great video as always ... Such videos, showing incremental improvement step by step with a real student are so much better that average theory\description videos .. I can really feel what student is going through and can apply to my own game easily at every step. Thank you !

    Some good tips for racket position which are all too often forgotten. Keeping your racket up and in line with the tape when your partner is attacking makes a lot of sense and is a progression of doing the same on the return of serve. Thinking of where a possible return could come makes this seem obvious, but is something I find hard to keep at the forefront during a rally!

    Brilliant and concise lesson. Thank you for making this video. Are you planning on doing ones relating to doubles rotations (when to move and when not to from the front etc) or fundamentals like footwork from the net to the very back etc? Or even the correct strokes. I see many people (even myself) struggling with holding the racket in the forehand grip and hitting the shuttle straight instead of accidentally slicing it. So we just adapt by moving it to the panhandle, using our index finger, or something odd.
    Great work again!

      Thanks for taking the time to write such a positive comment. Doubles rotation has come up a few times now so I’m sure we can look at this in the future. 👍

    that's excellent teaching, the way you move steadily step by step and draw each point from problems your student is facing in a natural progression. if there's a socratic method of badminton instruction, it would look pretty much like this
    i understand this lesson is more about the basic mechanics of interception than it is about tactics, but one point i'd add is that when you are already in attacking formation the better intercepting shot at the net is usually a gentle block rather than the kill or hard drive that many players are eager for. attempted kills and flat drives are often returned with a lot of energy and can turn an attacking situation into a flat exchange, whereas a light block will usually force a lift and keep the attack going. the net player would then be looking to kill any weak replies to his partner's smash

    Nice video, At our club level they doing cross defense a lot giving it to backhand side of front player there is a timing problem to take overhead for that cross defense! sometimes backhand works, most of time our club people will give high lift or cross defense! Putting pressure!!! Other thing is Having always racket up , u tap the shuttle more often early then finish or drops, i find it more viable to keep racket at above waist height observe and anticipate shuttle direction then play shot! Two ways of coins either works depends on play style!

    Do you always attack in this "tunnel formation" i.e. front player shifted towards the side of the shuttle?

      Really pleased you enjoyed the video. It’s a good question about positioning.
      You have to have a partner that is willing to stick to the straight attack, if the attack from the rear court is over varied it makes it hard for a net player to know if to channel attack or not. The other time you may not channel is if you see the defender trying to play the cross a lot, you may then look for that more instead.
      Generally however it is a good idea to be slightly on the same side as your partner attacking from the rear court. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    I would also suggest him doing a split step. Couldn’t see him doing a quick split step which made him get to the shuttle later

    I’ve realised, thanks to this video, that I’m positioned too close to the net. No wonder those drives always seem to come at me like a bullet. I need to back off a bit!

    • @TheBadmintonZoneHQ
      @TheBadmintonZoneHQ  5 месяцев назад

      Yes it’s always good to feel that you are behind the service line, this allows you to have more time to intercept the drive which is the fastest shot that can come back. Pleased it has helped 👍

    You guys should ask George to change his shoes. George's shoes is slippery making him harder to move quick.

      Yes, he hadn’t played for a long time so could have needed changing. The hall was also a tad slippy that day which didn’t help. Hope you liked the content, thanks for watching.

    check his racket at 2.20. His racket was not down there as the guy said later. Coaches stop lying to your players lol

    • @TheBadmintonZoneHQ
      @TheBadmintonZoneHQ  5 месяцев назад

      The racket may have not have been as low as stated but the racket still sat below the net which hindered George to be able to intercept the shuttle. Once the racket was starting in the correct position the interceptions improved hugely.
