  • This is my first ride on US129, The Dragon! We drove all the way down from Canada to ride it, and it was worth it. I'm riding my 2012 Harley Fatboy.

    When taking curves on a motorcycle remember outside inside outside. It will be much easier, and enjoyable. Nice vid keep the shiny side up brother. Peace!

      +harley7180 I wouldn't do that on deals gap. Seen too many crotch rockets riding the yellow line at whatever crazy rate of speed they are going. Easy way to get dead.

    Thanks for this video! I am about to ride The Dragon for the first time on my 2012 Fatboy and this video was very helpful. It showed me exactly what I need to know. I could see your speed and watch you shift. It was really great for me. THANK YOU! Dottie S.

    Nice video. I’ve ridden the Dragon dozens of times (I live in East Tennessee) and it’s always fun. It absolutely demands your respect.
    Glad you had a chance to do it.

    This road isn't as bad as the hwy where I grew up and learned to ride ! My first bike was a race modified 74 CB750 K ! In 1984 it was nearly the fastest thing in the mountains ! You could tell how late I was for work by how loud my bike was in the mourning ( I was only 5m from home to work at legal speed ) I heard it could be heared a mile away ! The Trinity Alps northern commiefonia !!
    Now I have the VN 900 classic LT ( many upgrades ) pretty much like the fatboy cornering!
    If I did have the viruse Aug. 2019 ( I was 64 then )( if I hadn't been in superhuman shape when I was young probably would have died ) I would have rode the dragon tail with my son inlaws dad last luly !

    Nice video. It's a little overwhelming the first time, isn't it?
    At least you ride with common sense. The people who are in over their heads are the ones I can't figure out. I have met people who hate curvy roads and go there. Then they creep around at 15mph and all I'm thinking is, "they can't be having fun when they're this terrified" lol

    • @2muchtime579
      @2muchtime579 8 лет назад

      +CyclopsRevolution honestly I'd probably be doing 15mph out there especially on a bike that nice :)

    cross in Buffalo? Did you come down 219 to 220? to Roanoke? thats a pretty cool trip down. I will do it again this summer, but head further south on Blueridge to Tail of dragon this time. What routes back do you recommend>?

    This confirms I'll be okay with a Fatboy. This kinda riding is the most "extreme" I plan on doing so I'm happy to see it handles it well 🙏🏽

    Nice job, you need to draw better the curves, between them just go near to the lines and cut the curve to the other side, get rythim. It will be easier for you that way.

    Great vid, Im looking at this bike as my next purchase. How fast were you going most of the time, and were you scraping at all on the floorboards?

    • @mikegillespie5218
      @mikegillespie5218 8 лет назад

      Sorry for not replying sooner - I was definitely driving cautiously although I don't recall the speed. The boards were definitely scraping, something that scared me at first but now is just my signal not to lean it any more than it already is.

    Beautiful bike. Counter steering will give you more control of your line.

      He is steering properly. It just doesn't look like it because the huge bars exaggerate the steering movement.

      +Oldwing15 countersteering is the only way to possibly turn a motorcycle beyond 5-7mph. He IS countersteering.

    I think it would be safer going a 'tad' faster , it looks very awkward , but is a nice-looking/sounding bike . We ONLY have winding-roads in NZ.... Dave

    Today Dragon traffic is mostly Harleys running 34 mph scraping steel and running wide. If you ride a Harley, go somewhere else. This is not a safe road for Harleys. They do not have enough cornering clearance. If you must, ride it very slow, under the 30 limit, and please, move to the right when faster riders come up behind you.
    I run it safe and fast on a BMW touring bike. (I live here). I don't need people running wide on corners. I now understand the term Hog for Harleys. They Hog the lane. One in 10 will pull over and let a moderate rider by, so I conclude, most Harley riders are inconsiderate pigs.
    The Dragon is a merciless teacher. It kills on average a biker a week. Learn your lessons well before you come here. If you can do it, then come on, otherwise, please stay home. Your life and mine are on the line.

      The speed limit is 30mph, if you want to ride fast do a track day . the public roads are not your private race track, no matter how nice they are to ride

      Or we will ride where we like and as we like and if you’re gonna busy the speed limit you can bite my shiny metal ass.

    • @MrHasie
      @MrHasie 6 лет назад

      buck I took it on a "HOG" and went at the posted speed, I did however pull off when a faster rider pulled up. Not all Harley Riders are the same. It was a solo trip and at one point I got stuck behind a "parade." Please don't lump us all in the same category. You have no idea how many squares I encounter when in for service/parts; it's not a club house nor a HOG meeting.

      Which Harleys are you talking about exactly? XR1200s have lean angles steeper Than some sportbikes.
