Thanks so much for posting this video. We are getting ready to make the trip from FL. I am a passenger, not a rider. After the pre-trip meeting, I was a bit nervous and scared to think about going. This will be my first long distance trip period! After viewing this video, I am more at ease. It doesn't look as bad as I was visualizing after hearing discriptions and warnings. Looking forward to getting that dragon decal for the bike!

Sadly, didn't get there. Things changed and I had to turn round and go back home. Still...... It gives me a reason to come back.

Thank you so much for your video. My husband and I will be heading to the Tail of the Dragon in 2018 on our bi-annual Unc/Nep reunion ride. We (Nephew) are from Nor Cal and Unc is from TX where we meet and ride. This is next years trip and I appreciate your video so very much. FYI... I ride my own and, so looking forward to this ride. It is beautiful.

I only counted about 230 curves. That's still an average of 20 curves a mile. The Road to Pai, Thailand from Chiang Mai where I'm retired has a 30 mile stretch with around 500 curves,...a similar frequency of curves but a longer stretch. Enjoy.

Nice Ride! Check out the Snake on Mulholland Hwy, here in SO CA. Go to The " Rock Store" & Rock Store crashes. The snake is the opposite of the Dragon! Short & Fast vs Slow & Long!!!!

The road looks awesome. It's on my list of roads in the USA to ride.

There is an adversarial relationship between sport bikers and cruiser riders,...like dogs and cats or Fords and Chevys.

Very safe road. Speed limit used to be 55.

30 now. Its as safe as you make it. Only thing you have to worry about is oncoming hot heads.

Key to enjoying safe roads at much faster but still safe speeds? Get your ass UP there at the CRACK of dawn when the highway is deserted! Make sure you have a reasonable muffler so as not to shatter the peace at that tender hour! Then? Haul ASS! LOL....I mean within reason....well within the bounds of safety which is to say if the race track is your 10/10ths? Then even a highway devoid of traffic and law enforcement STILL ought never to exceed 7/10ths....and even that is living a bit on the edge when one considers the very real possibility of drunk drivers and debris on the road not to mention damn wildlife and CATTLE etc etc.....It IS dangerous....period....FUN as HELL but lets just admit it is IS dangerous! Just dont make it STUPID INSANE dangerous treating the road like its the track!!

When you can look at the maps, death tolls, videos etc and not get a knot in your stomach. When you can ride your bike confidently and not break focus. And most importantly, when you learn to ignore the "Youre going too slow!" guys- yes, there are tons of them. Go. Ride your own pace, theres nothing wrong with trying!

speed limit is 30 there, so i have no bad remarks about the speed. what i did see is poor lines, improper braking and over-cooking the corners.

  • @bcm1567

is a great ride, but a heck of a lot better on a rocket than a Tecumseh! some corners at speed are 1st gear

Is that the bike rattling? Maybe it's just wind/rode noise! I've got an 05 Super Glide, but it doesn't rattle! I rode a friend's ultra this year and it rattled! I plan to ride ,with my cousin, from Texas to Tenn/North Carolina to ride the Dragon come Spring, looks like fun! Maybe a couple of OLD GUYS are up to it!

I'm planning on riding highway 129 in the fall. I'll be on a cruiser with my wife. Our daughter and her husband and his brother. I plan on doing the speed limit. It appears that it is 30 mph. If the locals don't like it We will be sure to buy our gas, food and lodging somewhere else. My tax dollars and blood paid for that road. We plan on enjoying it and the scenery. It's not your private race track.

everyone rides at their own speed for fun and enjoyment, they have places to pull over and let the faster riders get by, makes it safer for everyone. If you want to be a jerk and block the riders you will create an unsafe environment, some riders came from long distances to test their skill.

not very exciting if you ride as fast as a moped will go but nice video though. On my way there from indy in the morning.

Only my opinion but I believe there is a sweet spot in the choice of motorcycle and and speed for the wonderful curvy sections of highway. If a rider had scuffed up knee pads and tires feathered all the way to edges? That is just stupid nuts on public roads....the other-side of the coin of course is the cruisers riding damn obnoxiously slow....I think there is a duhh happy medium perhaps represented by the Sport Touring motorcycle.....just quick paced riding without ever exploring any limits to traction and braking points etc....no gymnastics hanging off the bike, all scrunched up between clip ons and rearsets .... but also no damn "highway" bars/pegs or "ape hangers" or anything remotely like that....just nice comfortable cockpit with entirely reasonable pegs and bars and windscreen allowing many long miles of comfort in an upright position. Here is my logic IF all I want is some wind on me and to enjoy the scenery? Damn I'll just take my convertible....On a motorcycle I want to enjoy the MACHINE....the acceleration suspension and braking! I want to feel all those sensations at a pace just enough to exhilarate! . I dont want to suffer cramping or a sore butt and back and I certainly dont want to become so bored with riding I keep trying to fall asleep....ya know? Something in the MIDDLE...But hey you all do whatever the hell you want to ....just dont damn run me off the road! And get the HELL out of my way too if you are poking along at the speed limit.....just move on over and give me a little hand gesture "come on by now"
