We finally made it to the Tail of the Dragon! On our ride from Tellico Plains, Tennessee to Cave City, Kentucky, we took an amazing ride through the Cherohala Skyway out to Robinsville, North Carolina to start our ride on the Dragon and make our way out to Kentucky.
With some amazing stops along the way, like the Tapoco Lodge, and all day riding on back road 2Lanes, this was one of our favorite days of the trip!

For this Trip, we decided to save some time and flew into Nashville versus riding there and back, and hopped on some @EagleRider rentals. Overall, it was a great experience and something a little different than our usual travels...good times!

The Cherohala Skyway is a 43-mile National Scenic Byway and National Forest Scenic Byway that connects Tellico Plains, Tennessee to Robbinsville, North Carolina in the southeastern United States. Its name is a portmanteau of Cherokee and Nantahala, the two national forests through which it passes.
ABOUT US129 TAIL OF THE DRAGON
The Tail of the Dragon or US Highway 129 is one of the most heavily traveled sport bike and car enthusiast roads with its 318 curves in 11 miles; located in Robbinsville North Carolina. The popular road crosses the Tennessee/North Carolina State line is considered by many as one of the world‘s most favorite motorcycle and sports car roads.
The Tail of the Dragon starts in North Carolina by what they call the "Fugitive" dam or Cheoh Dam. Harrison Ford jumps off the dam in the movie Fugitive. The dam and old single lane bridge were also in the 1974 movie "Two Lane Blacktop". The other end of the Tail of the Dragon finishes 14 miles away in Tennessee at the Tabacat Creek Bridge.

I rode Cherohala Skyway in both directions way before it became popular. Had the entire road to myself. A rare day for sure. Happy to be alive.
We liked the Cherohala more than the Dragon for the most part. Some great curves and changes in elevation along the way and A LOT less crowded👍
So happy that you got to ride the Dragon! Been there a couple times on the weekends it gets wild but the area has so many great roads and little hole in the wall places and some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Thanks for what you do!

I never miss an episode with you guys. The Dragon has been on the LIST for a long time and I'm pretty sure my good friend and I will ride it next year. THANKS for making us all anxious to tame that dragon.
The Dragon is in my backyard, make sure you go in the middle of the week and early in the day, less crazy people on it then.
Do both rides and there is more to offer out there. Spend a few days riding their back roads.

I rode the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway with my brother about 10 years ago when I got my first Harley. Loved the Skyway, that ride was amazing. The Dragon was definitely a bit more difficult but what really made it a bummer was the road was closed at the top so we had to turn around and ride it back down to Deals Gap. Good times.
Such great roads!! Bummer that it was closed at the top, but at least you got to ride it going both directions😎
I’ve ridden all of these roads in this series. Love the Carolinas and Tennessee and it’s fun to watch you guys enjoy this part of the country.

I'm 77 years old I've had my Harley up and down that Dragon I don't know 50 60 times and I love doing it every time what a great ride you ought to do it in the rain sometime that's a lot of fun there

Aside from our ride from Milwaukee to Maine last year, this was one of our first times riding in the East Coast, and there's some great stuff to see!

We were at the Lodge right after y’all and saw the 2 Lane Life on the wall! Our group rented the whole place for the weekend. Great place, wonderful people and awesome location. Being in Upstate SC, love seeing you in our area. We ride all those roads consistently!!! Love all your videos!!!
No way, that's awesome!!! We're glad we were able to find that place. Initially, we had planned to push through to Robbinsville the night prior, but it got dark before we reached the Cherohala Skyway. When we tried to rent some cabins, everything was shut down and we thought we may be sh*t out of luck for a place to stay, but Teresa saw a sign for the Lodge at Tellico and it ended up being our favorite stay from the trip. Good times!

I live in Huntsville, Alabama so can do a 530 mile loop to Deals Gap via the Cherohala Skyway in a day. The Cherohala is my favorite ride. Once in the Appalachian’s, you have countless great roads to ride.

I loved Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway. Although, I am a retired Firefighter/Paramedic, When we left Deals Gap, i was first on at a fatality accident and there was absolutely nothing I could do for the lady. The husband we did send to the hospital. I still carry their picture as a tribute to them even though I don't know their names. All I know is they was from Alabama. Ride safe. Enjoy your videos.
We had a blast riding the Skyway and Tail of the Dragon. Very different from the scenery we're used to, it was awesome. Guess it comes with the territory, but it sounds like there are lots of injuries in that region, we even saw a guy go down on the Skyway. Living in central North Carolina, Tellico is an amazing location for bikes of all kinds. I am on a 2014 Street Glide and I absolutely love the Deals Gap area. But my favorite is the Cherohala Skyway! The Skyway will never disappoint. Just down the road in the Nattahala forest are some amazing roads where you can cruise close to some awesome rapids. Great video guys, I am glad you came to our local area and enjoyed the ride!

There’s also a wigwam Motel in Holbrook Arizona on Route 66. This one is still owned and operated by the original family. It’s definitely worth a visit there are many antique cars parked around the property from the time 66 was the main route

But I know how it is when you’ve gotta make some time up
Me and my brother just came by there nov 6th around 3:30 and was pretty awesome! There was a wildfire as well so we got to see that as well in there. Road is pretty fun

i missed the other videos, but if you ever get the chance, go for a 2 or 3 day trip and stay in Boone NC or Johnson City TN. Ride back and forth on the HWY321 and HWY421 loop. It is about 1 hour each direction between Boone and Bristol. Super twisty 35mph roads. just stick to the speed limit and enjoy the twists. It doesn't have a bunch of spots to stop and look, but it's an awesome ride.

Oh, and when in that area, don't overlook taking "Happy Valley Road" as a must do. But be careful. It has a higher degree of difficulty than the Dragon.

Looking at US 27 North under the railroad bridge at Wolf Creek around by Todd Field up the hill and turn left towards Jamestown going through Allard. I thought I saw parts of US 127 in that cut
I live in a different part of Tennessee, but I make it over to East Tennessee at least twice a year so I can hit roads like that. They’re a blast!

I live in the Robbinsville area and do this ride often. Never get tired of it. Great Video, thanks for that. Next time add the Foothills Parkway and the Bule Ridge Parkway. Ride safe and watch out for the other guy. .
Awesome!! We'd definitely do the same if we were closer. The Dragon and Cherohala Skyway were both amazing. Both the Blue Ridge Parkway and Foothills Parkway are on the list!

In the 80s and 90s I lived in Maryville, TN rode a Harley Super Glide.
Would ride to and from Murphy, NC at least once a month through Deals Gap.
Back then there was very little traffic, now it is loaded with morons, making it super dangerous.
Funny watching you guys ride stock bikes, your camera footage shows all the jarring bumps. Saw lance bottom out a few times.
