Its hard to believe that the deltics have now been preserved machines for twice as long as they were actually in service. Almost equally hard to believe that money skill and determination can keep these machines alive and on the main line. Thanks and respect to all whose efforts, big or small, contribute to the ongoing class 55 hall of fame.
Excellent Steve. They didn't hang about much at Carlisle and an awkwardly located 397 precluded a decent view of it being taken down to London Road to turn the train. It should have been put in a siding there but instead went to Upperby and off onto the return to Carnforth
A magnificent machine although I've always had reservations about the overall Rail Blue livery - makes it look like a big slab - looked far better in the original two-tone green. I didn't know this was running today but, since I had a long-awaited dental appointment, I couldn't have come to see her anyway.
Shame you had to miss the event Tim, i know what you are saying about the colour, every one has different tastes though, bit like music on videos it can make or brake a video, Steve

Thanks for the comment Robin, yes i would think that to be the case, great sound when on song, cheers Steve . 👍
@@stephenbrass1808 my comment was a quote from the Chief exec of BR in the early 1960s!
surely it would have been easier to do a load bank test rather than clowning like this. good video though,
thanks Peter it was a great sight, steve .
Filthy things. Easy to understand why they were withdrawn!
Thanks, i gather a lot of the smoke is oil being burned of mainly when cold ??? .
@@stephenbrass1808 They are two stroke diesels. They are designed to burn oil!
