The Von Trapp children say goodnight at a party by singing "So Long, Farewell."
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most popular movie musicals of all time, The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Julie Andrews stars as Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent who regularly misses her morning prayers because she enjoys going to the hills to sing the title song. Deciding that Maria needs to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows, the Mother Superior (Peggy Wood) sends her off to be governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Arriving at the Trapp home, Maria discovers that her new boss is cold and aloof, and his seven children virtual automatons-at least, whenever the Captain is around. Otherwise, the kids are holy terrors, as evidenced by the fact that Maria is the latest in a long line of governesses. But Maria soon ingratiates herself with the children, especially oldest daughter Liesl (Charmian Carr), who is in love with teenaged messenger boy Rolf. As Maria herself begins to fall in love with the Captain, she rushes back to the Abbey so as not to complicate his impending marriage to a glamorous baroness (Eleanor Parker). But the children insist that Maria return, the Baroness steps out of the picture, and Maria and the Captain confirm their love in the song "Something Good." Unhappily, they return home from their honeymoon shortly after the Nazis march into Austria. Already, swastikas have been hung on the Von Trapp ancestral home, and Liesl's boyfriend Rolf has been indoctrinated in the "glories" of the Third Reich. The biggest blow occurs when Von Trapp is called back to active duty in the service of the Fuhrer. The Captain wants nothing to do with Nazism, and he begins making plans to take himself and his family out of Austria.

0:50 has always been my favorite part. I like his quirky smile while he effortlessly belts out a note that sounds like the majestic melodies of a rainbow unicorn.
I believe the note was sung by Darleen Carr (Charmian's sister) and added on - he couldn't sing that high!

I love this movie so much. I adore how kind Liesl is to her younger siblings, especially the little ones, like Gretl.
She is the stereotypical oldest sister/like a second mom character and I love it.
I can watch this film over and over not getting tired of watching it.

I just loved it especially when one of the girl’s asked if she could have her very first champagne- seriously I just crack up at that and also that’s my favourite part of the song.

I heard that shooting the movie took 9 months. Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich) started 5'3 and ended 5'9. I think he stated it during their 40th-anniversary reunion interview.

I remember watching this is first or second grade for music class and today it just randomly popped up in my head. Man now I’m in my second year of high school I never really appreciated what I used to have now I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Mi papá se fue de la casa con otra mujer el día 30 de diciembre. Imagínense llevar esta pena por años y años. Gracias a esta película salí adelante ya que la veíamos juntas por TV o al cine. 1:01 when I was small I always wanted to meet this girl.
I used to watch this every single time I went over to my Grand Parents house. I watched it so much my Grandma got so sick of it she actually tried to hide it but I would still end up finding it and watching it with her. Eventually I watched it so much the tape wore out and I ended up getting it on DVD instead. She died in 2016, I haven't watched it since.

I’m guessing kids might be born in the late 1960s and the 70s and the early 80s that only Nicolas Hammond in the Spider-Man tv show. People were born in the 1950s and the early 1960s grew up with Nicolas Hammond in the Sound of Music with Julie Andrews. Also people were born in the late 80s and the 90s and the 2000s and 2010s grew up with Tobey McGuire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland as Spider-Man in movies. I was born in 96 I grew up watching three Spider-Man actors and the Sound of music with Julie Andrews and Nicolas Hammond.
