A quick breakdown of the Underworld! There are five places for dead people, depending on how you lived your life. The only one we saw here was Asphodel, where average people go. Those who don't deserve punishment or paradise. They become husks of their former selves and loose their sense of identity slowly over time. The others are: - Elysium: Think of this one like Heaven. Those who do good in their lives go here. Note the difference between "good" and "average." Doing good in this case means living your life exceptionally, like being a hero or something. - The Isles of the Blest: A island in the middle of Elysium. If someone achieves Elysium in life, they can choose to be reborn. If they earn Elysium each time and each time choose rebirth, then when their third life ends they get to go to this super special paradise. - The Fields of Punishment: This one is like Hell. Not much to say other than it sucks. - Tartarus: Actually, I lied a little bit above. We did technically see the entrance to Tartarus -- it was the pit that Percy and Grover almost fell into. Non-human baddies like monsters and Kronos get sent their for Extra Special Punishment. It's called "the bottomless pit." You REALLY don't want to fall in there.
Yea, you're supposed to be a bit confused from this episode. The twists go against everything our heroes have been told, and they realize they actually don't have the answers at all. Hence the episode title. Now that we've established that nothing we know is true, we're ready to figure out what's actually going on!
Oh yea, he didn't try it in this episode, but when this happened in the book Grover tried yelling Maia and it didn't work. The shoes have gone haywire and started trying to pull him into the pit. Why, though, we don't know.....
Hades wanted them to visit him since the first episode : he sent the furies to retreive Percy alive to question him. The first fury we met asked "where is it ?" When you know mythology, it's not that surprising that Hades is a calm and peaceful guy who prefer living in the underworld and take care of the deads... Wars give him a lot of work, he doesn't like them. The shoes were attracted by the pit of the Tartarus where Chronos was thrown. The bag Percy was carrying became heavy near the pit... If Percy had been wearing those shoes with the bag on his back what would have happened ? Luckily, Grover, with his goat's feet could take them off easily. What's happening ? :)
In greco-roman mythology th underworld is divided into various sections, n th judgment pavilion decide where a soul should go based upon their life's accomplishments. Th fields of punishment are fields of complete n brutal torture for souls of people who have done extreme wrongs in their lifetime; th asphodel meadow is where indifferent or ordinary souls who lived a life of neither good or evil are sent to live after death; elysium is th place of paradise for th heroic and th virtuous. 2 extra kingdoms are th isles of th blest n th tartarus. Th isles of th blest is reserved for th good people who had chosen to be reborn 3 times, n 3 times achieved elysium; while th tartarus is th darkest n deepest area of th underworld, where th gods imprison their enemies. In th classical period th souls of sinners were condemned to tartarus, but in th riordanverse they are sent to th fields of punishment, which are an invention of th roman poet virgil for his variant of th underworld

In Greek Mythology The Underworld isn’t just for bad people. Olympus is purely for the gods. There’s a part for good and bad people in the Underworld
