I find it so impressive that Walker got so good at doing stuff under water that he was able to talk without making bubbles. Something like that seems like it would take forever to learn. It just blows my mind! 🤯

Percy didn't get the pearls in the Mississippi River. He got them in Santa Monica from the nymph, but he only received three that was the whole purpose of going to Santa Monica

Yeah and they also didn't go over the time limit either. I wonder what the secret entrance is gonna be??? In the book they just went in through the Underworld's main entrance with a lame excuse for Charon and a bribe. There WAS a secret entrance in the books, the Door of Orpheus, but that was in Central Park in Manhattan. Percy and Nico di Angelo (who can be heard calling for his sister Bianca about 12 and a half minutes into the episode while Grover and Augustus are talking about Pan) used it in The Last Olympian and Nico and his boyfriend Will Solace used it in The Sun and the Star. There's never been any mention of another one anywhere, just the main entrance in LA.

In an interview with Etalk, Aryan mentioned that fans should be on the lookout for "interesting names being thrown around" in the Lotus Casino. In the show, episode 6, in minute 12:30, you can hear a young boy calling out "Bianca, Bianca". In this scene, Grover is speaking with Augustus which is the exact same scene that is the thumbnail for the episode on Disney+. It could be a clue.

I love this episode. They managed to not waste the short runtime and added lore that will be relevant in the future seasons. This is one example of telling a story in long form. Considering that the chapters for the lotus hotel was boring and short in the books, they did a really great job making it meaningful in the show.
For me the tension was still there because of Grover's side of things. We see as an audience that Grover was still affected even though he didn't eat anything. Though I guess they should've kept the part where Percy found out about it through talking with the 70s kid (?) instead of Hermes. Also, love Levitating as a song choice! Never liked pokerface for some reason.

I feel like it would’ve been fun if they played games at the casino but it also seems out of character for them at this point in the show so I kinda get why they did that instead? Also wish Percy still talked to the guy from the 70s just so he realizes the time in a more graphic way I guess

Seeing as Percy joked about staying to play, I don’t think it would’ve been out of character for him at least. And if they’re being COMPELLED to, then I don’t think it matters whether or not it’s in their character to do so.

This episode was perfect. I didn't catch the different time period cars/costumes, but I'll watch again.
Good character development. Grover's whole nature/animal thing is adorable and awesome, I need to adopt a satyr...
ECHO is also awesome (mature audiences), a Deaf friend is absolutely blown away by it, and the deep dive into Native culture is more of the representation we need in media.

I think I would have preferred it if Hermes arc was not there (It felt like it was too much unnecessary info, which they could have provided in the next season). This is one episode whose change I am not happy with. I was fine with them knowing about the risk and still getting affected showing how strong the effect was and how dangerous it is. However, I did not like the deadline crossing coz that upped the stake in the book and them getting 4 pearls because it is going against the prophecy. But I ll wait to see how they worked around it!

I love how Hermes had the power to make Percy remember a memory from childhood it was so cool! I wish Hermes got to do it to Annabeth. Also I hate how at the end the neriad jellyfish lady talks about how Percy failed because the book didn't say he failed. Also last thing the neriad gives Percy 4 perils not 3?

I personally like those 2 changes of 1 Percy failing and 2 Him getting 4 pearls. 1 It destroys that trope of they get there last minute or win at the last second which happens all the time. It gives the story more weight to me that they didn’t get there in time and now every second that goes by is critical because war could be going on. 2 The 4 pearls show that Poseidon still cares to an extent about Sally.

It's not just that the characters are running out of time while in the casino, but the show is running out of time while they're in the casino. 15 minutes of a 30 minute episode is a LOT.
We've got to have hour long episodes for future seasons. The 30 minutes is just messing with pacing and making big, dramatic scenes less so due to time constraints. If we can have sea of monsters be hour long episodes, I think the internet will break. The kids will look more grown up (but not too much so) and the viewer-base will expand because of it. Hour-Long is going to be a must when we get to things like Last Olympian and, hopefully, Heroes of Olympus.

  • @WarGrowlmon18

In the book, the Nereid questions if Percy's got a bunch of talents compared to famous heroes and his answer is no. In the later books, he ends up doing a lot of the things that the Nereid had listed.

Honestly, we thought this episode was a bit weak. This show is very good for those who have read the book, but not great for those who haven't. The pacing is slow with a few episodes having little point to the overall story.

  • @brandoncole2672

The show has definitely been passive. Safe. And them short runtimes are hurting it. This series can’t not go on if they continue this way. Reason 1. This kids age and the conflicts get even more dangerous. 2 eps from the end but my overall take is that season 1 has one big ass proof of concept! It’ll be a W because it got the views, definitely think season 2 (Sea of Monsters) may be greenlit but that will be the tell all depending on their approach.

@@Georgiaaara no conflict or really a sense of urgency and I think that’s due hugely to the short runtime. They telling more than showing.

    • @Georgiaaara
      @Georgiaaara 5 месяцев назад

I mean I agree with the show needing a longer run time but I disagree slightly with the lack of urgency/conflict. I do think that because there will be people coming into it with no knowledge of the series, or of the movies even, sometimes you're just gonna have to explain it a bit more for them to understand. Once they've gotten past book 1 and settle more into the main conflict then it'll be more fast-paced and you get to see more world building. Which imo is just like how it was in the first book too - I'd even say the show does a better job of foreshadowing with Kronos because in the first book there's no mention of him at all.

Disney's production of "Percy" starting Walker Scobel is a major disappointment. What should be an action series is a boring series of talking heads. All action scenes seems strangely truncated. The VFX are far from special.
A novelist may not be the best choice for writing screenplays. Proper beats in a scene/screenplay requires intimate knowledge of filmmaking. Films are different from novels.
Walker Scobel is a gifted actor. The other two principles may be as well. A dull script combined with uninspired, flat directing can hide all talent.
In its present form, the series does not merit a second season.
