    The flashback scenes in this episode are SO GOOD! The part where young Percy asks Sally "Why are you trying to get rid of me? I would never do this to you." had to be such a gut punch for Sally to hear, especially when she's just trying to keep her son safe. I truly felt for both of them. 😭💔
    Also, even though we only got to see him for a few minutes, I love Jay Duplass's portrayal of Hades already! The way he so casually just says things like "Okey-doke.", "I see you.", and "You know, typically, getting crushed by a minotaur is a terminal diagnosis." is so funny to me! 😂

      @@seansilence2697 I understand book Percy being oblivious to greek myths bc Sally didn't teach him about it there and neither did Grover (with Mythomagic), but book Annabeth spent 7 years at camp, is a daughter of Athena, reads a lot and knows a lot... yet she didn't know about those creatures at all? 😅😅 made no sense indeed.
      That being said, I know some ppl complain about telling, not showing, but honestly Percy is told the majority of the stories in the books bc he (and the audience) are still being educated abt myths. I really love this episode ❤️. Someone on tiktok complained about the flashbacks but to be honest, for me personally, the flashbacks are fitting to the storyline. It showed us more of what Percy might be feeling with his mom basically putting him in boarding school and then we see how it pains Sally that she’s hurting her son like this because she needs to protect him. It showed that both Sally and Poseidon are struggling with Percy. They both don’t want to hurt him like this. Poseidon wants to talk to him, to be near him but he can’t because of the pact he made with Zeus and Hades. Sally wants to ease Percy’s troubles and just tell him the truth about everything because she knows how hurt he is with what she’s doing to him.
    Poseidon comforting Sally and giving her advice, even acknowledging that Sally is doing an amazing job as Percy’s mom, was really comforting. Sally needed that. Percy’s life is in danger and she needed the encouragement that she’s doing the best thing for Percy.
    Annabeth was right. Sally was preparing Percy all along, so when he got to them, he’ll be different than all of the common problems with the gods and the creatures and being a demigod. And Sally did. She had prepared Percy. He’s just navigating everything now on his own and learning more and understanding more but he’s still the Percy that she took care of. Someone who sees both right and wrong, and has a heart of gold. Who wears his heart on his sleeves. Percy is different. And that’s what makes him amazing. Sally did an amazing job.

    • @skylerfreeman1173
      @skylerfreeman1173 6 месяцев назад +7

      People fail to realize that in the books Percy gushes over his mom CONSTANTLY in his thoughts but you can't really do that in a show - they have to build out WHY/HOW she did these things especially since the show is focusing far more on the parental dynamics. The gods are supposed to be a stark contrast to how Percy's mom raised him and cared for him/struggled for him in comparison and I think its great they SHOW that since they can't necessarily 'show' the gods being neglectful since they're more in the background > this logically pushes Sally's relationship with her son to the forefront to make you wonder 'wow wtf are the gods doing/been doing? they're GODS, don't they have time for their kids at SOME point?'

      @cleopatradizon2042 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@skylerfreeman1173 true. Correct me if I’m wrong (pretty sure I am wrong). The thing with Percy, from what I’ve noticed, is that because he views his mom in such a positive light, he doesn’t really realize how hurt he must have felt during the times that Sally had to do everything she can to keep him away for his own safety. He loves his mom that much that he doesn’t really focus on his own feelings whether his hurt or not. As long as the people he cares about is alive, safe, and happy, what he feels doesn’t matter

    I really like the conversation between Poseidon and Sally. Poseidon knowing without her saying it that she doesn't want Percy at camp. Him realizing that she needs a person to talk to, and being there, focusing just on what she has to say and helping her figure things out. And her just being able to open up and confide in him, knowing that he is there for her right now and listens. That in this moment, she can talk to someone about the monsters she knows are there, but has to deny in front of everyone else.

    I feel Percy knowing who a lot of the villains are makes sense. In a book, it's important to have a main character that learns things alongside the reader as you spend time inside the head of the main character with their thoughts and so it's more engaging if you are both new to the crux of the story. In a tv show this can lead to characters looking slow witted, especially after the first few times. The pace also needs to be picked up a tad to fit everything in to 8 episodes whereas a book can be as long as it needs to be.

The issue with Hades in the media is that they protray him to be the antagonist, the villain, because they associate the Underworld with Hell and Hades with the Devil, which is more of a christian/catholic centric view of the world and doesn't do justice to the greek god presented in myths. It really makes you feel that this is a BIG deal if Hades is scared. I read the books and I’m loving how this series is adapting them. The Percy Jackson Tv show isn't that. Annabeth has been at camp training for a quest for years ( I think 5, right?) and Grover's job is to be a Protector. Even with Percy, he didn't know he was a demigod but his mother knew and told him stories about Olympus. Personally, I think trio using their knowledge/common sense throughout the quest is an improvement from the books.

How did they know the entrence would be there anyway? Annabeth has been preparing to go on a quest since she was 7 and she's the daughter of Athena, awlays seeking more knowledge and wisdom. It was actually strange in the books how often they ran into things while completely clueless. It is more engaging for a kid in a children's book format where you'd figure it out alongside them throught the surprises and solutions but from a writing perspective it reflected poorly on our main characters. I honestly just think the show makes it work better. Also it's probably partly a choice to cut down on runtime due to budget constraints. But they make it make perfect sense within the story so hey, I like it.
      It's so important to get this Sally-Poseidon-Percy stuff. They've already built so much background for Percy and his dad and they haven't even met yet. It's more complex, more bittersweet. Percy often thought about how awesome his mom is and without those bits in the internal dialogue it's nice to get all that conveyed with flashbacks.

      Next we get that fight with Ares, the conclusion of the quest, HOPEFULLY Sally disposing of Smelly Gabe and Percy's confrontation with the true Lightning Thief. All of the clues are there already to the Thief's true identity.

    This is a good ep! my only complaint is that (again) they cut the action scene short, the scene with crusty tho i wish its longer and the scene where they enter a place where charon just stands there bored with so many dead ppl who can’t get in to the underworld i kinda wanted to see that but never mind. Oh and i wish hades was more scary tho 😂 and like not just stand there watching them gone with the pearls i kinda wish he would go angry at some point that would be cool lol. And i thought they would address that the furries were sent to catch them on hades’s order because he thought his helmet was with them.
    The sally and poseidon talks my favourite scene.

      It's kinda inferred that Hades sent them for the Helm. I'm OK with Crusty being a quick move. And this Hades fits. He has an entire empire, and really couldn't stand his family. I also like that Persephone wasn't there because it's summer, she's with her mother. But Hades wouldn't want them to leave, as long as he has Sally, the most powerful demigod at Camp halfblood will get his helm back

    The one thing i dont like about this show is how there is no surprise for the audience. I know it makes sense that the characters would know about this but it also makes it kinda boring because there are no shocking reveals for places 😒

    I was really enjoying this show, some hiccups here and there, but I have to admit…I’m actually really disappointed with this episode. 😢 they really fumbled one of the crucial events in my opinion. They rushed to Percy finding the bolt in his bag and they rushed to him figuring out it was Kronos. I’d much rather see Percy trick Procrustes or Charon to see how smart Percy is rather than have him figure out major plot points in seemingly seconds

    I personally really liked this episode. It's probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite episode of the season. That Sally and Poseidon scene was everything!

      Polyphemus is worse. And Chrysaor. And Anateus.
