Why do I get the notion these guys couldn’t care less what Randy plays. Idk def could be wrong. But it seems like they don’t care all too much. Randy is God :)
Does Randy rent himself out at parties then. He sounds better with a bass/drummer and a double Marshall stack on a bigger stage. Although when you have been doing this as long as Randy you realize real fast how small Jimi's back catalog is. Jimi was dead at age 27. If he had put some track down with Miles Davis (which was being planned) that would have been interesting. Maybe MIles could have got Jimi to explore more than just the pentatonic with some passing notes from the Aolean and Mixolydian mode. We will never know now ...
..combination of styles, with Jimi. I would hate for it to be consigned to the same fate as excellent virtuoso musicians that pushed the boundaries, that only a few listen to anymore. Popularity shouldn't be the hallmark of good musicianship, but it helps pay the bills. Jimi's music transcends a lot of styles, I wonder if a session with Miles would've opened new doors? A whole generation got off in the pentatonic vibe..
Many people say imitation is the finest form of flattery. I say it's a lack of one's imagination! This guy has stunted his musical growth by pretending to be some one else for the last 40 years! It's just like those who spend their life trying to be Elvis Presley!
