I've never had an issue with it either, either inside my own account or others I've helped (including requesting reviews of ads that have redirects in them). While there's no clear advertising policy outright stating that redirects are not allowed, the closest policy I can find on it is where a redirect might be used to conceal or misrepresent the destination on the other side. So I don't think it's the redirect itself that's the issue but how it's implemented. Hi Tom, do you pay per link clicks or Impressions for traffic campaigns? My Meta ads account is pretty new and it says it will take several weeks until I become able to pay per link clicks. So I am currently paying according to the number of impressions; would this be really ineffective?
Hey there lil' question for Tom or anyone else there. If you are in the "many clicks-no streams" scenario... does it make sense to leave it running to see if it improves over time? My guess is that they'll keep working just as bad, because FB is optimizing for the clicks without taking note of what happens next. But if anyone can contribute with their experiences I'd be thankful. BTW Tom, thanks for the video and all the awesome advice in your channel! New follower here
Hey thanks for being here! If you're getting clicks and no followers, then it may be time to compare the country breakdown between Facebook and Spotify for Artists. It's likely most of your clicks are coming from a small number of countries that aren't converting to Spotify. Remove those countries from your targeting and keep trying.
@Tom DuPree III Thanks for the prompt answer! =) Yeah, I'm targeting the "reliable countries" from the start. USA is the country with the most clicks with 20% coming from there. Most countries converting VERY cheaply (0.06-0.08 US$) which is suspiciuos. I see some small bumps here and there in my statistics but for the moment they could be just accidental. I will try for a few more days maybe. .

Super helpful Tom. You helped me set up a campaign using conversion ads. I'm running close to $0.50 for the conversion ads. Do you think switching to a traffic campaign would improve results (and Spotify listens, followers)?
Hey Tom, thanks for uploading was really looking forward to this one 🙏🏽 in terms of your targeting countries, did you start to disregard all countries then that aren’t tier 1? Like Brazil, Mexico, etc.? I saw you were only targeting the English speaking countries now so I’m curious. Which route would be best? Please let me know, thanks Tom!
Yeah I’ve been focusing entirely on tier 1 countries with my traffic ads. I’ve found those to be more effective. But other tier 2 & 3 countries can work. You just have to watch them closely to make sure they’re converting to Spotify. My advice would be to split them out into ad sets by tier to be safe.
Hi there, in this video, you mention that conversion ads generally perform better global, while traffic ads are more effective in European countries. Could you explain the reasoning behind this?
Thanks for this video! I have just started running traffic Ads to promote my single releases on Spotify. The Ads themseld seem to be performing ok but I am not generating more than 10% streams compared to the click rate. Is this normal or am I doing something completely wrong? I mean over 3k clicks and less than 300 streams - how is that even possible? Seems like I am burning money at the moment. Would be very greatful for any advice!
Great vid Tom. I was just wondering if there’s anything wrong with linking the song link instead of your artist profile link? Just to make it easier for people to find the song your promoting.
It depends on what your goals are. When I'm trying to pump a release, I send traffic to the song. When I'm trying to grow my followers, I send traffic to my profile.
@Tom DuPree III I have a question about this. Having a traffic campaign redirecting to a song seems dangerous to me, because of bots. But having a traffic campaign to a profile, is more like a conversion, because a real person interested in your music will follow you, or listen to your songs. May be the numbers on Facebook Ads says you have a better click ratio but, in the end, what counts is streams and followers. Am I getting this right?.
Hey Tom, I've been running ads tests for different parts of a song with the same creative and I've noticed that often one of the ads will get ALL the impression and the other will barely have any spend behind it. It seems like this doesn't make for a fair comparison in terms of CTR since the sample size is so different... how do you work around that?
Should I do this directly to my profile if my single just dropped and isn't my top song yet? Any advice on this? I also built a this is playlist but I'm sure the playlist adds random artists on free spotify accounts, so just was wondering if there was any advice
If you already have a bit of a catalog, start by going directly to the song or to your playlist with the song at the top and then switch the link to your profile once the track is in the top five.
Hi Tom, thanks for the video! I’ve been trying this out like you said but my CPM averages to be around €3-4 as opposed to yours, which appears to be ~$1.30. This means my CPC is like €0.7-€1. Any advice on getting my CPM down? Is it just ad creative or something? My target audience is very similar to yours with the size of it pretty much equal! (I might try and experiment with throwing in some tier 2 countries to see if the cost is lowered)😅
Awesome video as always Tom, thanks! just one question, is this working better than the Toneden spotify growth playbook? If I want to target places like Mexico or Colombia, should I better use the toneden one with conversions? thanks bro!
This method is working great for the US, Canada, Australia, and the majority of Western Europe. If you want to specifically target Mexico or Central and South America, conversions are probably going to be a better bet in my opinion. As long as they work well, the cost should balance out to give you a good rate of return!
@@tomdupreeiii Thanks Tom! what do you think about the toneden spotify growth? I think they do kinda the same, even have a re direct link too, but using conversions. do you think thats not working as good as before?
Hi Tom, thanks for the video. I've followed the steps you described, but was unable to desactivate Facebook feed in the placements: when I tried, I got an error message explaining that's it's impossible to withdraw Facebook when Campaign Budget optimization is on. Which is not your case... As a result, I get 100% of Facebook feed placement and 0% for Instagram :( Any idea to solve this?
Try creating a brand new campaign from scratch. If it persists, turn off CBO and then turn it back on once you've deselected the feed placements. Also, ensure your Instagram account is correctly connected.
Can I just use my Artist wix site to activate my pixel but then use Tonden as my Web link for the Ad? I keep getting an error message “Your Meta Pixel is Not Active.”
The thing with trafic campaign is you can’t do remarketing campaigns and collect data and be able to do lookalike targeting etc. What do you think about it? The ad setup is pretty smart though!
You can still do a lot of audience creation and retargeting with on-platform data from Instagram and Facebook, you just can't do much pixel-based stuff. Using pixel-based audiences is definitely the longer-term goal, but for Spotify alone, I've found the on-platform audiences to be highly effective.
It can. You’ll just want to pay close attention to how you Spotify metrics are performing. I’d make sure you are fresh on how to run conversions too just in case though.
@@tomdupreeiii here you send ppl to your profile to grow followers. Is the process the same if I want to get more listeners and I like the direct link of the song itself?
@@tomdupreeiii thank you!! I know this is a weird question, but do these ads have audio in them? I've edited the video to have the part of the song I want, but when I preview the ad, it doesn't play it back with the audio so does my ad actually have sound?
In the end, you have to test different methods and find what works for you. I can only share what has worked for me. Both conversions and traffic have yielded great results for me over the past year and a half. So both definitely work.
@@tomdupreeiii I dig. Maybe my issue was that i wasnt using a "link redirect." So, I'm gonna give it another shot. We'll see what happens. Thanx for the video!
Man, that's a bummer. I'd cross-reference countries in your results on Facebook and I'd also make sure all your links are working. After that, you may need to look at targeting.
well, actually I run some traffic ads for ukraine (songs on Ukrainians language) and they worked pretty well. I was surprised! Never thought that traffic ads can bring some actual listeners, not bots. Even in Ukraine
Dude, my traffic ads were running great then over this weekend just stopped working for like 2 days straight.. I was around 30-40 cents a click and in two days it went to over 3 bucks a click randomly? Didn't change anything in the ads, has this ever happened to you?
Oh no! Yeah I e had this happen before too. It’s weird. It should come back down though and only be a temporary spike. Leave it for 5 days and then make a new ad set if it hasn’t come down.
Does anyone have this problem? All my ad sets are showing 1 cent or 2 cent a click and A LOT of clicks but I'm getting no streams on spotify, how is this possible?
I'd double check the countries you're targeting and the age breakdown you're targeting as well. Usually those issues are a as a result of those two factors.
I get 100 link clicks a day from traffic campaigns, I’d imagine they all drop off from having to go to safari first, THEN the App Store. Then the app opens
if you send them with a traffic campaign to a Tonden landing page that has pixel embedded in it? will it also track conversions "view content" conversions when they click on youtube or Spotify or any other service in the landing page? do you recommend just direct links or do you recommend landing page if my goal is to send them to "Anghami" and RUclips?
It will track the button click with a View Content event if you send them to a landing page, but I’d recommend using a direct link / link redirect with ToneDen. It will trigger both a page view and a content view so you can use both to retarget.
Kinda losing faith in facebook ads tbh... I did a traffic campaign for a week at $3 per day, used only first tier countries, got about 100 clicks for ~$0.20 CPC, and got a *literal total of zero streams*. Okay one stream MAYBE but I'm pretty sure that was from somewhere else. No idea how it actually works for some people.
Why don't you use custom audiences in your targeting? What's the point of having a pixel and having all that data at your fingertips if you don't utilize it? Is it because the CPM is largely higher? Even if that is the case, isn't it worth the extra cost because I feel people who have viewed your content/engaged with it before (people in custom audiences) are more likely to become fans AS WELL as stream your song/potentially become a follower on Spotify. I'd love to hear your opinion on this, and honestly I feel like the depth of this topic could provide valuable content in the form of a RUclips video - Love
I do use custom and lookalike audiences for my targeting. At this point, that's all I use. I mentioned it in the video at 3:53. Cold targeting is the first step toward further defining better results in the form of custom and lookalike audiences. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@@tomdupreeiii Thanks for pointing that out bro. Do you plan on releasing a video detailing what Custom audiences/LAA's you use, and how that's impacted your costs, your Spotify algorithm, and even possibly your Instagram following/algorithm? (Since you use primarily Instagram stories)
During my limited testing , the click through rate for my link click campaign was 91%. Those tier 1 countries are really effective. Even if they're a little bit expensive (38 cents). I'm used to 15 cents per conversion. I stopped the link click campaign since the conversion campaign was doing so well. I guess the song is hot enough.
I heard from indreperneur that Reels is the thing that is working best now for link click to spotify campaigns so I am trying the Ig story and reel placement. wish me luck

As long as they work well, the cost should balance out to give you a good rate of return!
@@tomdupreeiii Thanks Tom! what do you think about the toneden spotify growth? I think they do kinda the same, even have a re direct link too, but using conversions. do you think thats not working as good as before?
@@BrayanRodriguez21 I think RUclips ads is a better route for those countries
On the spreadsheet, I see there’s a do not target list. What’s the reasoning behind those?
Those countries are either full of bots, will eat your whole advertising budget, or both.
for Hypeddit, how do you shorten the link?
I'm not sure Hypeddit has a link shortening option.
@@tomdupreeiii would you recommend just using a shorten link site?
If my main audiences are Spanish speaking countries (tier 3 at best) does this strategy still works?
It can. You’ll just want to pay close attention to how you Spotify metrics are performing. I’d make sure you are fresh on how to run conversions too just in case though.
FINALLY!!!!!
Haha I got you bro!
Would this work without the Pixel?
Yes! No pixel necessary with traffic campaigns!
Do you choose pay per Impression or Pay Per CPC?
I generally select Link Clicks over Impressions with a traffic campaign.
@@tomdupreeiii Awesome thanks for the quick reply!
Are these only good for getting followers? Is it good for streams as well?
They work for followers, streams, and playlist growth!
@@tomdupreeiii so for streams instead of the artist profile i would put the song link?
Yay thanks dude :))
You bet!
@@tomdupreeiii here you send ppl to your profile to grow followers. Is the process the same if I want to get more listeners and I like the direct link of the song itself?
How do you create your link red direct/ 'play smartlink'
I use a service called ToneDen: toneden.io.
@@tomdupreeiii thank you!! I know this is a weird question, but do these ads have audio in them? I've edited the video to have the part of the song I want, but when I preview the ad, it doesn't play it back with the audio so does my ad actually have sound?
Tom vs. Andrew? Andrew vs. Tom? ahhhh! both get good results. Both have different opinions on traffic campaigns!!
I don't know man. I did everything like you said and while fb manager reported 36 link clicks, spotify didn't count a single play
Man, that's a bummer. I'd cross-reference countries in your results on Facebook and I'd also make sure all your links are working. After that, you may need to look at targeting.

does this work for growing ig page?
well, actually I run some traffic ads for ukraine (songs on Ukrainians language) and they worked pretty well. I was surprised! Never thought that traffic ads can bring some actual listeners, not bots. Even in Ukraine
Amazing! Thanks for sharing that!
@@tomdupreeiii awesome. Thank you man!
does this still work? Is this video still applicable for setting up FB ads today?
Yep! It definitely still works!
How much are you spending daily?
$10
Does anyone have this problem? All my ad sets are showing 1 cent or 2 cent a click and A LOT of clicks but I'm getting no streams on spotify, how is this possible?
I'd double check the countries you're targeting and the age breakdown you're targeting as well. Usually those issues are a as a result of those two factors.
I get 100 link clicks a day from traffic campaigns, I’d imagine they all drop off from having to go to safari first, THEN the App Store. Then the app opens
It probably doesn't happen to every single user. Likely only to a small percentage of them. A link redirect can help with that though.
can the song have cus words ?
I have never ran a facebook ad in my life and I dont even know how to get to the first page. please explain for beginners.

if you send them with a traffic campaign to a Tonden landing page that has pixel embedded in it? will it also track conversions "view content" conversions when they click on youtube or Spotify or any other service in the landing page? do you recommend just direct links or do you recommend landing page if my goal is to send them to "Anghami" and RUclips?
It will track the button click with a View Content event if you send them to a landing page, but I’d recommend using a direct link / link redirect with ToneDen. It will trigger both a page view and a content view so you can use both to retarget.
Sheesh guess I’m not doing too bad at .10
No not too bad at all!
I literally cannot get this or any other ad to work. I set it up exactly like this and I get like 5 clicks after in the first $6.50 spent.

Some people never see your ad again after having to go through this nonsense
Unfortunately, it's just a bit of loss we have to accept with advertising sometimes. We're never going to convert 100%.
Wish me luck boys and girls. I have a release today that I'll be trying this on.
Best of luck!
Spectrum!!!! Let us know how it goes man!! I'm still bumpin "war."

I would 100% agree with that. Good luck!
How do you add an pixel to the link redreirct
