It somehow doesn't surprise me that AC players don't understand that you don't need to be in combat to do something. You are pearls before swine, Leo. Also your voice sounds like you've been doing this for years, lovely editing, pacing and scripting.
I absolutely appreciate the compliments! ^__^ As for AC players, a decent number of them are quite hungry for this kind of knowledge and you'd be surprised what kind of crazy stuff we as a whole community used to be able to do, and used to hunt down in terms of both Gameplay and Story, once upon a time. From my PoV and what I've experienced (read: tragedy lmao) I can only blame the players so much; because Ubi themselves did most of the damage. They basically disincentivized a lot of skill-growth and mastery as the franchise went on and that's a lot of what you're seeing these days.
Why do you think I hate the damned sandbox structure so much? There was never much necessity to be skilled in either stealth, combat or parkour when you could just swap to one of the other styles, let alone the many safety nets you need when you actively have to account for so many sandbox variables. Play one of their more linear games like Blacklist on perfectionist and you see a massive world of difference in terms of difficulty, it's incredible.
Yeah, for sure. And what really burns is not that the games are "too easy," or whatever. What actually does damage here, is that *because* Ubisoft knows a player can freely juggle between different styles to solve any problem, there is never any need to flesh out each style on the dev end of the equation. Why bother, right? We don't need to make Stealth deep and tactical, we can shove a player toward Combat. We don't need to make Combat deep and tactical, if they're getting wrecked, just have them run away into Stealth. Unity was the literal worst at this, with both Combat and Stealth that were pretty much broken as hell and constantly "Hot-Potato"ing the player between themselves. You cannot stay in Stealth because Movement is so irritatingly bad and because Detection is so inconsistent. You cannot stay in Combat because there are points where enemies reach a Critical Mass to which you can do nothing at all. You cannot *flee* from Combat, either, because unless you have Smoke Bombs ready to throw down, Gunners will auto-lock onto you and *HITSCAN YOU THROUGH THICK CROWDS*, killing you instantly or wiping like 75% of your health. Consider that, a tester for the game broke NDA, and revealed that in the build he was playing *TWO MONTHS BEFORE RELEASE* "Combat wasn't working yet, so it wasn't available to try." What. Yeah, that explains a lot to me. >_> That game was such a trainwreck and the biggest reasons it gets any Love from me at all are; 1) Elise de la Serre is my fuckin' WIFE. 2) It did a lot of good work for my channel. [breathes] >opportunity to bitch about Unity >carpe diem ~~ [Re: Parkour] In AC1-Revelations, there were optional reasons to get good at Parkour, and the open world structure helped that a lot because it wasn't about memorization, it was about Understanding and very quick on-the-fly adaptation to everything around. An ever-changing environment that a player could flow through using Side Ejects, Back Ejects, Catch Ledges, Climb Leaps and alternating Release/Hold Sprint to prevent accidental wallruns, or to allow shortfalls off edges. In AC Kenway Saga a lot of that became automated. In AC Unity and Syndicate much of it was ripped out of the game entirely, and if it wasn't it was extremely contextual, and the Assassin had to "agree" with the player instead of letting them just do it upon pressing their buttons. AC Origins follows in these footsteps but at least Parkour is accessible as hell and isn't a tirefire to use on a basic level.
Open world doesn't necessarily mean structure-less, and ACO could've added mini-tutorials in many of their early storyline quests to emphasize optional game mechanics. For instance, Bayek finds himself naked but got a hold of a few smoke bombs while on his way to pick up his gear, and he's standing above a group of guards. Or tomb puzzles where using certain tools in specific ways can solve them. But since smoke bombs are a optional skill to acquire, this is not possible. Thanks RPG skill tree. Ubisoft wants it both ways: be accessible for a lot players and yet have depth in gameplay, but oftentimes do a poor job expressing the difference between a crutch and a tactic to be learned or discovered. Suck at combat? Use overpower to get it over with quickly, but this ability makes you not observe enemy movement patterns. The gladiator fights tries to get the player familiar with the combat mechanics, but it's presented as a self-contained mini game, and I'm pretty certain content relating to them was cut to isolate arena fights even more (see: Cyrene arena boss fights). Finally, the lack of replaying missions pretty much make any of these attempts useless if you didn't get it the first time.
Wowie, there's much improvement to be seen in this video - Better structure than most, you clearly thought abou tit - Footage is not only relevant, but referenced and aids the commentary - Thumbnail, needn't say more - Nice editing/flashyness/text pop-ups I approve.
Also just to say this sleep and poison darts work exactly like the darts in ACS to were if you though them at a fire pit it does an AOE move becoming the size of the average smoke bomb
Some great tips in here. I've never used the smoke bomb from above option. I'll jump from above, take out a guard or 2, then drop the smoke if there are more around me. I learn so much from these Academy videos. Thanks for doing them.
god man you help me so much plus your voice isnt incredibly annoying like most people, probably the most soothing voice i heard and not headache inducing at all
Thank you, I appreciate that kindness a lot! Feel free to click on my Playlists and look at my Commented Playthroughs, or even the rest of the Rogue Academy series, in which I teach people about various game mechanics, just like in this video. My Unity Advanced Guide I made when I was sick, so my voice is a little raspier and grittier there, which I'm sorry for. Hope you have a good evening! :D
I’ve recently gotten into the Assassin Creed series just a couple months ago and have played most of the AC games and am now into Origins. It’s been a blast playing these games and your videos have been a huge help in my playthroughs such as Unity, and now Origins. Thanks a lot for these videos man!🙏🙏
Lol came back into the game recently to finish the hidden ones dlc and 100% the game. I had forgotten most things including the existence of the smoke bomb, but one time I dropped it accidentally which shocked me so I came here to see how to use it at all. However the extra tips definitely made me happy. This man is the go-to for ac related stuff. Cheers.
If an enemy sees you (combat begin), you can throw a smoke bomb near him and run in the opposite direction using the cloud to break the line of sight. If done correctly the enemy will exit immidiatly "combat mode" and you will be able to assasinate him. this strategy is quite usefull to kill phylakes or other enemies whit a lot of health
I'd encourage you to revisit it. When you understand what's possible in the game, it becomes significantly more fun. Try also Sleep Darting the burning ground when you throw a Firebomb down, you can Sleep-Cloud off of any flame-source, including ones generated by you, yourself. Also, Sleep-Clouds go through solid objects and walls, so if there are enemies on the other side of a wall, you can drop a Torch and Sleep-Dart the tip to Knock Out everyone. Very handy.
I forgot how to use the smoke bomb so I've been rushing people with the sleep darts. So satisfying. They can knock out anyone regardless of detection, it's just harder when they are running at you.
Honestly, I used sleep darts plenty of times when an enemy is looking straight at me, about to detect me, though it does require amazing reflexes to aim properly They do detect me fully sometimes, but they fall asleep immediately without alerting others As for the smoke, thanks for the guide, I haven’t played Origins before due to lack of good hardware, but now when that’s not the issue, I’m having an absolute blast with it. I am unfortunately level 23 without acquiring them but after this video I definitely will
It's definitely possible, yeah, just the average player is probably not going to manage it. This is a more comfortable solution that's a little safer for everyone else. I really like Origins, super fun game.
I'm just glad it's still here in some form. Yeah, it's not as good as Unity, but it just means you have to be more creative with it. This was an awesome video. Thanks for this. Can't wait to skill up to aquire it.
Thank you for watching, and hopefully, gaining knowledge. :D We can do quite a bit more with it than it at first appears. One big thing is that unlike previous games, in Origins, as long as enemies don't see your body when you Smoke Bomb, they will NEVER detect you no matter what. You will always be unnoticed, personally, provided they don't have LoS on any of your physical character. In previous games even if you were out of sight when you Smoke Bombed, they could sometimes auto-detect you.
Thanks! It's always a point of concern for me, whether or not my educational videos are entertaining even without the player seeking overt knowledge. This is nice.
Sorry for being late to party lol but smoke bomb is actually 1 of my favourite ways to assassinate guards in ACOr lol, I spend tons of points for the master seer skills so my tool damage is high af I can just dash right next to an enemy or even a group of them, press R and insta kill everyone nearby
Thank you Surya, I love your comments. You've been watching a lot of my stuff, I really appreciate that. Not every video is great but I'm glad you're checking them out.
just simple things like a smoke bomb that can’t be thrown or sleep darts that don’t require some silly ability segment would make valhalla miles better. there was no stealth, barring archer stealth/chain assassination that could be used effectively in odyssey. in valhalla we have been given; a powder trap that literally explodes (how stealthy), an archer ability that triggers after a set amount of time resulting in little freedom of use, a raven harass similar to origins however requires adrenaline to use (that we have 4 of???), a bunch of open combat abilities that are often unreliable damage wise and a sleep cloud ability that was nerfed to ruin. watching jcers’ newest origins stealth highlight video along with revisiting this one just shows how much they are streamlining stealth to the point of redundancy. this rumoured next gen game needs to utilize it’s new engine effectively to incorporate actual stealth mechanics back into the franchise. story and progression to the overarching narrative will always be extremely important but if the gameplay is lacklustre there is no point to staying with a game for more than a couple months. amazing guide as always leo 👍
Thanks so much FINNLAY. I'm with you, all the way. It's quite saddening and painful, what the state of stealth is in Valhalla. We have so few tools remaining to control and manipulate enemies, meanwhile guard-density and positioning is completely bonkers in so many of the main story sections in that game. Tough to even know how they expect us to deal with them when our options are so limited.
@@LeoKRogue it’s embarrassing to play when if we simply just revisit the early games we can visibly see where they have given us opportunity to exploit our enemies weaknesses
This is a little off topic. I love origins but i hate how they removed the shing sound when you get a kill with the hidden blade. Im glad valhalla fixed it tho.
Good video mate I know it's possible there's a trick or two that don't know it thanks throwing the smoke bomb from above I would never have tried it otherwise what I love about the game I did a lot of tricks myself easy found out by trying.
She has a few sections, I made sure to clear any narrative context from it. That said, I'm sorry if this has dampened your experience somehow, you're the first of 97 comments and almost 12,000 views to say anything about it. :[
Dunno if you'll see this but I just wanted to ask, for parkour do you think it's at all harder to pakour with the keyboard? I see gameplay of people on controller all the time and I can imagine it's so much easier to direct yourself and control where you want to go, but on pc I almost have to rely on the camera entirely and it feels like I have less control.
Wow man... not blowing smoke up your ass (pun intended), but that video was great. Very informative... I didn't really delve into the seer tree too heavy even though I love to play stealth. Thanks for the tips
I actually thought Smoke Bombs were OP in this game (especially when combined with sleep darts) so I refused to use them to make it more challenging xD
yeah... u can just smoke stun lock a mini fort boss to death with this thing.... just stun the bastard and walk behind him and smash with a heavy blaunt weapon for more dmg. if he gets up I drop another one. infinit loop until he dies. dont wanna deal with the anoyying big range he has and high dmg he deals in higher difficulties lol also its even more op given how u can get them from enemies, and instant refill all tools from an arrow stand....
thx for the tips on smoke bombs, recently started playing and wanted to use stealth, what would you say are the best weapons/bows/shields and how to get them since i only have purple weapons at lvl 36 :/ would appreciate if you answered
As long as you're not too underleveled, you can use any weapons you want. Most of the weapon drops in this game are completely random, so there isn't too much advice I can give in terms of gearing. What's going to make your biggest difference are your Passive Skills. Eagle Harass is really strong from the Hunter tree, I would try to get it as soon as possible. It stuns any single guard for a really long time and lets you run past them or kill them.
Poison Darts are wholly Worthless. Ignore them completely unless you're playing on Easy. On any higher difficulties, all enemies simply have way too much HP to make them be worth using. One effect they have is that they can sometimes cause an enemy to Cough, stunning them for the ultra-short duration of that animation, but why wouldn't a player just use Sleep Darts instead? It's just pointless. If you want to Damage the enemy, everything else does more damage. If you want to Stun the enemy, Sleep Dart is more instant and reliable. Poison Darts in terms of the way they behave is exactly like Sleep Darts, they travel the same way, and they cause the same Cloud effect when thrown into fire. It just doesn't help us at all because they're so ineffective at everything they try to do.
There are not. For stunning enemies, a good alternative is to use the Rain of Destruction skill that causes fire arrows to rain down on enemies. If you cap out enemies' Fire Gauge they cannot see you / you are completely invisible to them, and since Rain of Destruction is an AoE, can be fired from behind walls and very far away, and can blanket an entire group of foes at a time if they're close together, it's the closest thing to group-stuns we have. Another good ability is Level 3 Shadow of Nyx. It lets you be completely cloaked / invisible and walk around without being seen while draining your mana. If you find the full Pilgrim Set of Legendary Gear (look up its locations, they're always in the same places) your Level 3 Shadow of Nyx will no longer drain mana, so you can literally be invisible forever.
It's a shame AC Valhalla doesnt have smoke usable like this. You can only use smoke in combat for Valhalla which sucks. A stealth guide for Valhalla might be useful cause it's a bit difficult for most players.
A stealth guide for Valhalla would be useful, yes. The issue is, it's difficult for _me._ It's difficult for all your favorite stealth content creators. I can promise you that. Valhalla sneaking has both technical problems (bugs, inconsistencies) and design problems that make it harder. I will teach it as best as I can, though. This is my promise.
its the not in combat part i hate every time i finish a battle i like looting fast so i spam triangle and dodge to move faster ever since i got the ability the smoke bombs come when i dont want them to
In AC Origins? Make sure you have the skill unlocked, then Dodge with O or Melee Attack with R1 -> immediately tap your Interact/Assassinate Button (Triangle).
@@LeoKRogue hell yeah not just this one but it goes all the way back to AC3 if you don't wanna fight just run and then come back but its easy to fight in the ps3 version of these games
Would it be possible to add you as a friend on PSN for AC Coop? I just found your page not too long ago and it's good to see those who do know how to utilize the game's mechanics how they should be.
Hey Michael, thank you so much for your comment. Unfortunately I don't play AC Unity on PS4 anymore, but if you haven't heard of the AC Multiplayer Revival Discord, I highly recommend you join it and look for players there. A good number of Unity players on PS4 still exist!
The Smoke Bomb in Assassin's Creed Origins is a contextual item that is far more powerful than some players give it credit for. This video is for them, and for everyone else who wishes they could do more with it. You can. ;]
The Skill:

Stealth:
- Spam Smoke to safely cross open space.
- Use it as a panic button when you see Detection and you're not feeling safe enough to cover away in time.
- Drop it off edges, to cloud the area you'll attack into.
- - With Damage, you can use this as extra Damage to kill enemies, especially clustered groups when you're above them.
- Make aiming with a Bow or Tool safe, by clouding your current cover with Smoke, then aiming out.

- Smoke can be used to Escape Conflict.

[Re: Parkour]
In AC1-Revelations, there were optional reasons to get good at Parkour, and the open world structure helped that a lot because it wasn't about memorization, it was about Understanding and very quick on-the-fly adaptation to everything around.

This is why I play Hitman and other linear stealth-focused stuff, no crutches or nets for the devs to fall back on.

5:14 Wait, did you just aim that dart at the guard's level indicator?🤯
Yes hahaha
precious. thx.
You're welcome!
This is a little off topic. I love origins but i hate how they removed the shing sound when you get a kill with the hidden blade. Im glad valhalla fixed it tho.
Same, I think the first time it had first been gone completely was in AC Unity. Syndicate, Origins and Odyssey didn't have it either.
Good video mate I know it's possible there's a trick or two that don't know it thanks throwing the smoke bomb from above I would never have tried it otherwise what I love about the game I did a lot of tricks myself easy found out by trying.
Thanks! The sleep dart into any kind of fire is another good one.
I didn’t know we can play as aya cuz im still in the beginning.... great
She has a few sections, I made sure to clear any narrative context from it. That said, I'm sorry if this has dampened your experience somehow, you're the first of 97 comments and almost 12,000 views to say anything about it. :[
@@LeoKRogue yeah i have a habit of being late. but its ok I covered the screen with my hand🤣
Phew, I'm glad hahaha
Dunno if you'll see this but I just wanted to ask, for parkour do you think it's at all harder to pakour with the keyboard? I see gameplay of people on controller all the time and I can imagine it's so much easier to direct yourself and control where you want to go, but on pc I almost have to rely on the camera entirely and it feels like I have less control.
I've played most AC games with both keyboard and controller and they're both perfectly fine if you setup your keybinds in a way you find comfy.
@@LeoKRogue fair enough, I felt like the analog input would simply mean you get superior control but if you find it’s fairly even on both I’ll take it
How does Eagle Vision work in this? I'm not a fan of always having outlines whether I need them or not
You Tag guards with Senu and then you can see them through walls at all times, similar to Metal Gear Solid V / the Far Cry games.
You're intelligent, Leo
I try to be. :P
Wow man... not blowing smoke up your ass (pun intended), but that video was great. Very informative... I didn't really delve into the seer tree too heavy even though I love to play stealth. Thanks for the tips
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I actually thought Smoke Bombs were OP in this game (especially when combined with sleep darts) so I refused to use them to make it more challenging xD
Haha, fair.
yeah... u can just smoke stun lock a mini fort boss to death with this thing.... just stun the bastard and walk behind him and smash with a heavy blaunt weapon for more dmg. if he gets up I drop another one. infinit loop until he dies. dont wanna deal with the anoyying big range he has and high dmg he deals in higher difficulties lol
also its even more op given how u can get them from enemies, and instant refill all tools from an arrow stand....
thx for the tips on smoke bombs, recently started playing and wanted to use stealth, what would you say are the best weapons/bows/shields and how to get them since i only have purple weapons at lvl 36 :/ would appreciate if you answered
@@LeoKRogue oh ok got it, btw what is your loadout? would love to know what the assassin mentor wears :D
great video, on xbox one s, there is no indication which button to use for smoke screen
Damn, I have to keep this nearby before I restart Origins. And by the way, any Poison Dart tips??
@@LeoKRogue oh wow. And I almost ripped my hair out trying to be creative and use the poison darts
Hey man are there smoke bombs in AC Odyssey and if they are none, what's a good alternative???

Ya came in quick this time!
Does anyone know about that Smoke Bomb can be triggered after GETTING HIT
Yup, I don't talk about it here because it relies on making a mistake first, which I don't love the idea of haha
It's a shame AC Valhalla doesnt have smoke usable like this. You can only use smoke in combat for Valhalla which sucks.
A stealth guide for Valhalla might be useful cause it's a bit difficult for most players.
A stealth guide for Valhalla would be useful, yes. The issue is, it's difficult for _me._
It's difficult for all your favorite stealth content creators. I can promise you that.
Valhalla sneaking has both technical problems (bugs, inconsistencies) and design problems that make it harder.
I will teach it as best as I can, though. This is my promise.
every time I try to pick up something I throw a smoke bomb
You're Dodging/Dashing right before it. Relax, stand still, and tap your Loot button.
Try using a sleep dart on an oil pot😴😴😴😴😴😴
The bigger the cloud... we’ll u get it🤣 big fire lots of sleepy guards
Poison works wonders too🤣
its the not in combat part i hate every time i finish a battle i like looting fast so i spam triangle and dodge to move faster ever since i got the ability the smoke bombs come when i dont want them to
Spamming Dodge to move over long spaces is slower than just running when you want to loot everything. :] I would try not to do that anymore.
@@LeoKRogue thx for telling me cuz im glad that i could stop throwing the smoke bombs after very fight
So I'm on ps4 how do I drop a smoke screen to save someone
In AC Origins?
Make sure you have the skill unlocked, then Dodge with O or Melee Attack with R1 -> immediately tap your Interact/Assassinate Button (Triangle).
@@LeoKRogue I got pass the part without it ran away made the guards follow me then went back to save the priest 😂😂
ACO is nice that way; it lets you finish objectives in several ways, if you're clever enough to make a cool strategy.
@@LeoKRogue hell yeah not just this one but it goes all the way back to AC3 if you don't wanna fight just run and then come back but its easy to fight in the ps3 version of these games
I love all of the Assassin's Creed games, yes.
