Can You Beat ASSASSIN'S CREED 1 With Only The Hidden Blade?

  • Why engage in combat when you can 1-shot every single enemy that comes across your path?
    Looking for that end-game explanation I mentioned? Here's the link : gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/...
The Hidden Blade is the signature weapon of the Assassin's Creed series. Without AC, there would be no hidden blade. Without the hidden blade, there would be no AC.
And considering how deadly it is in the right circumstances, one has to ask : can it be deadly in EVERY circumstance? Even ones that it wasn't designed for?
I think it's about time we find out.

Not only that, with sword and dagger, if you miss counter you will still block and either negate damage or take reduced damage.
With hidden blade you eat full damage if you miss counter. In cases of elite enemies, thats 3-4 bars of damage.

Fun fact, using the hidden blade counter on the last boss is actually an exploit. Normally the game has a long drawn out cat and mouse game, where you have to find the right one out of a bunch of illusions around the courtyard. Funny that this challenges rules actually made the final boss easier!

@@CErra310 You can, but using a counter with the hidden blade instant kills every enemy regardless of difficulty. The frame to land the counter is much smaller than other weapons, and instead of blocking and avoiding damage if you fail, you take full damage, but landing the hidden blade counter just ends the fight immediately from the start without having to do anything extra. Like it's been forever since I played it, but I think countering with the hidden blade just ends it period. Like he doesn't even do the clone phase.

You can do death from above, but need to lock on, position yourself and jump and do high profile assassinate directly on the target. It’s tricky to get the timing but once you do, you can use it for many of the bosses. Only in later games did they have auto-lock-on for it but it was always possible.
I recently did a full stealth run (doesn’t count the ones that are impossible to stealth for story reasons) and the only one I messed up on was the executioner.

Because it's not really an Air Assassination. It's gameplay jank. The game is skipping the traditional "Land on Ground" animation and skipping right to the High Profile "Jump and Kill" animation, making it *Appear* as an Air Assassination. Likewise, considering how obtuse pulling it off is, it's clear that it's not an intended feature of AC1 as a whole.

@@btchiaintkidding7837 No, that's not an Air Assassination. What you're describing is technically a sort of "Jank" in the gameplay. What's happening is the game is triggering a "High Profile Assassination" by pressing the buttons at the exact times that it skips the "Land on Ground" animations and goes right into the High Profile "Jump and Stab" killmove animation. But the problem was that the windows for pulling this off are so tiny and tight, it's not exactly something someone's going to do naturally. AC1 never had Air Assassinations period, only gameplay jank.

Seeing as Assassin’s Creed was born from Prince of Persia, the connection seems uncanny.

      @btchiaintkidding7837 7 месяцев назад +10

the game has combo system, if you spam r1 then the guards will literally block everything and wont d^e, you have to rhytmically time your attacks to pull combo k^ll and successfully doing so lets you k^ll them with a takedown cutscene/animation instead of ragdoll. and performing combo k^lls and counter k^lls with takedowns like these builds fear/intimidation meter for the remaining enemies so they will yield or run away
at lowest level it takes, 3 hits to break enemy posture/HP then the next blow will be a k^llmove, you upgrade this with story progression and by the emd of the game it only takes 1 hit to break enemy posture.

Fantastic video! As the other comments say, the hidden blades are actually the most powerful weapons (at least up to AC Revelations) due to them being able to counter every weapon, albeit having as much smaller counter window. I remember that in AC Brotherhood there used to be Trials that you could do and one of them was how many combat kills you could get with only the hidden blades and the enemies would slowly ramp up to difficulty up to the Papal guards themselves. An interesting playthrough I did once in Brotherhood was trying to complete the game by disarming every enemy and using their weapon to kill them. I don't remember how far I got into the game but it would be pretty interesting imho.

I was actually getting the itch to replay some of the older games lately, but I traded them all away when I got rid of my old consoles and moved to PC. That, and I didn't feel like giving Ubisoft any of my money.
That said, I would like to see more of your challenge runs in this series, mostly because your humor makes everything better. I haven't heard you say "Carl cut the camera" in a while and it caught me off guard, gave me a good chuckle.

This is the only challenge you’ve ever done I think I could do. When I originally played the assassins creed games I just didn’t deal with swapping weapons because the hidden blade is so much more fun to hit timing windows with.

26:28 Season 1 Episode 48 of Batman The Animated Series is called "What is Reality?". Edward E. Nigma, aka The Riddler sends a minivan sized computer to the police station and traps commissioner James Gordon, Batman's friend, inside a VR simulation. Batman has to put on a VR headset and enter the machine to confront The Riddler, who seems to have total control over the simulation. He can create objects out of thin air, warp the world around and even duplicate himself. Which was ultimately his downfall as well, since the whole thing was dependent on his concentration. He fried his own brain trying to fend off VR Batman.

AC: Brotherhood with hidden blade only is still one of my favorite challenge runs. Max notoriety, no group fighting, and plenty of social stealth. Actually had good use of the coin throw to get past guard squads.

RakRakGaming did a similar challenge a few months back where they played the game as a true assassin (minimum detection hidden blade only). It’s cool to see someone else’s take on the hidden blade challenge.
