    What is a piece of Camera equipment that changed your workflow, that typically is not an exciting purchase?

    Man I've been searching for a cheap video/fluid head tripod for ages now. They're always well into the hundreds when it comes to price ranges. Every time I go tripod hunting, I'm just bombarded with all the consumer level mobile photography style tripods, as companies continue their attempts to make them smaller and lighter (these ofc have their own place and I love these tripods too when practically is necessary). I just couldn't believe that no one wanted to produce an high quality accessible video/fluid head tripod. This seems like the perfect thing for me, thanks so much for making such a great video!

    Something that needs to be mentioned about this tripod is that you may need to tighten the bracket plates on the back of the leg clamps before use. The one I got had loose brackets and it wouldn't hold anything. the legs kept sliding. I though it was faulty until I realized the brackets needed to be tightened. It works great now.

    I got the same tripod when I got my BMPCC4k, awesome value. There are certainly other tripods with fluidheads at around that price point, but none that are as well built as the smallrig AD-01!

    I love this tripod but when I try to put a lot of weight on it it does not hold it seems as though the lock is not completely locking. If I didn't want it to be fluid there is no way to stop that?

    Is it possible to remove fluid head and attach slider on top?

  • @nadtz
    @nadtz Год назад

    Heh. I've been playing around indoors with a new camera with no stabilization and shaky hands. I have a decent tripod for photo stuff but quickly realized why video tripods have fluid heads on them and started hunting around for reviews. I can only imagine how much more useful one would be for someone more serious about filmmaking. I don't need something light which seem to be a lot of the 'budget' models so while this is a bit pricier than I had wanted it goes on my shortlist for at the least being a solid unit. Thanks for the review!

  • @Filmmakers_N

    Please tell me, will it hold up well to weight, or will there be an issue if the camera weighs around 4 kilograms? I've read various reviews, and many users claim that it doesn't withstand the manufacturer's stated weight.

    My beer can is empty and I remained transfixed until the end of this video. I must have a dozen crippled tripods and lighting stands I've inherited or purchased. Do I really need another? I have never had a fluid-head one yet, so maybe.

    Thanks for this: excellent info answering all I wanted to know. I'd been tempted by the Neewer 2 in 1, which is about €50 cheaper, and looks good too but there appear to be some questions, among other reviewers, about its pan function. It seems there is not way to "set" the level of drag in the fluid head. And so, it's hard to get reliably smooth pans. It sounds like its best just locked-off. This Smallrig looks to be good quality though. Thanks again, this was a really helpful review.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to not have to spend $2,000 on a tripod but I just need to know how they made it this inexpensive. Can I really trust it with a $4,000 camera rig?

    • @thomasjmcclure
      @thomasjmcclure  Год назад

      That’s really up to you, if you have the budget, and have a brand you’d rather trust, go with that. Peace of mind is important. I personally have had no issues, it’s held up really well. But a manfrotto or something like that may be more reputable.

    • @ludwigvonn9889

      If you have a 4k camera rig, you shouldn't be looking at 150 dollar worth tripods.. it's not like you gonna use it once, it's the most important accessory to a camera..if you're a videographer
