    Jim- everything working now need to program the steering module for the controls and illumination to work. Took several tries to get the steering angle calibrated once done PSM and PASM faults cleared.
    Just need to figure out the aftermarket stereo and interface working, the factory PCM2.1 has no issues.
    Contacted NAV-TV for help waiting for a call back, CAN Bus is confirmed to wired correctly as the Bose amp and volume works.
    long 6 week journey but worth it, thanks again for the inspiration.

      Solved the NAV-TV issue without their lack of support, flashed the 09-12 software the controls worked but no volume so amp was off. Then reverted back to the 05-08 version the everything seems good however the phone buttons still don't work, do they work on your car?

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  5 лет назад +1

      Nice, sounds like you got it working. Only the volume knob up/down and radio tuning knob up/ down is working on mine, plus night illumination. The additional buttons on the wheel are recognized when activated as verified by my scan tool but doesn't work/not supported with my aftermarket stereo/MOST HUR adapter. The phone button may work to answer/hang up with Android Auto but currently Android Auto is not working with my current phone (Essential phone) so I'm not able to confirm. Regardless, I think the phone button is not that useful.

    • @jayi836
      @jayi836 5 лет назад +2

      I agree the phone buttons are not a deal breaker as I never take calls in this car and it's a Cab.
      You asked about the Alpine iLX-207 to date its the best head unit i've owned. The phone controls worked on other cars with AA. pretty sure this is on the NAV-TV unit.
      While troubleshooting the controls the phone buttons did work on the PCM 2.1. not so amazing $650.00 box with no support. The funny part is no I'm going to rip out the amp and speakers...
      The Durametric Pro is also a ton of money and no support.
      Ordered a PIWIS 2 from the UK should have it in 3 weeks. Available to you if needed.

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  5 лет назад +1

      Agree, the Durametric and NAV-TV are so overpriced. Wow on the PIWIS 2, so hardcore... Glad to see it's now available to the public and seems price has come down because of the 3.

    Hello Mr. Wong, 1st off thank you for your video(s). before sending you a comment I did happen to read all the comments. My inquiry is if I have an automatic 997.1 w/multi-function and tiptronic functionality when swapping to 991.2 that has all the same functions will a straight swap do the trip, of course with the addition of the GPS adapter. In your experience will I still need to reprogram if all my functions on my 997.1 have the same functions on the 991.2 steering wheel I planning on swapping. Thanks again!!!!!

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  Год назад +1

      You will still need the updated steering column control module 997.613.289.01 and that needs to be programmed for Tip and multi function. Unless you're lucky to find a used one on eBay that came out of a tip with MF. Otherwise the paddles and MF will probably not work.

Everything works except I dont get steering wheel illumination, do you have any ideas what Im missing? Thx

    • @atm4jim

      Seems like wiring issue, and not coding, my steering wheel illumination worked before I did any coding, double check the red and black wires connection to the steering wheel harness, be sure it's in correct pin locations and didn't get pushed out, it should lock into the plastic connector unless it was inserted upside down, gpsadapter.us/blogs/installation-guide/installation-guide

    have a 997.1 TT also manual. already did the PCM swap to a pioneer 2440. considering this swap an on the fence about MF buttons since ,y right hand is usually on the shifter anyway so i've convinced myself the MF is an extra hassle/expense. but MF wheels seem to be more plentiful than non especially in macan variety. So i either figure out how to delete the buttons or go the extra mile to activate them. I'm assuming then I need GPS module, and the steering column adapter, and the wire from the mos-hur adapter to run the MF into the head unit. anything else? seems we may have similar head units so maybe i'll have similar luck

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  5 лет назад

      Yes, your assessment is spot on and I agree the MF is an extra hassle and expense. As you mentioned, it requires the gps adapter $350 and updated steering column module and programming. You may be able to find the blank inserts for the MF or I would just leave them non functioning. Also if you care about the MF night illumination, you will need the gps adapter. Most Macan wheel I've seen also comes with the paddle shifter which you can delete and replace with the proper shroud for about $50.
      Make sure the MOS HUR adapter works with your head unit. I think Pioneer is not officially supported (but may still work?) and you may need to update the firmware of the MOS HUR. Also if updating the steering column module (specially if buying new), it will probably require programming and calibrating the steering angle sensor. I got lucky on my used unit that came off a wrecked 2010 BoxterS.

  • @chh7681
    @chh7681 5 лет назад +1

    hey jim, how did you need to recalibrate the PSM steering angle sensor, even after switching the steering control module?
    I suspect i may have disconnected the battery too long and now my function stalk will not even work (after switching the steering ctrl module)
    really appreciate your insight.

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  5 лет назад

      No, I lucked out. I got mine from eBay which came off a wrecked 2010 Boxster S. I only had to enable the multi-function and get the gpsadapter for the multifunction and illumination to work. It came with the wiper/signal levers and the listing shows the following parts 997.613.261.00 + 997.613.265.00 + 997.613.055.11 + 7L5.953.541D + 997.613.289.01. The last part number is the needed updated module for the multifunction and/or paddle shifters (tip) to work on 997.1.
      If you get a new module which sounds like you did as I don't think disconnecting battery too long is the culprit, you will definitely need to do some programming including enabling features like cruise control, etc.

    • @chh7681
      @chh7681 4 года назад

      @@atm4jim i agree with what you're saying about disconnecting the battery for too long. in fact, i ordered the steering wheel mf adapter today - so i will be disconnecting the batter for an extended period of time. 7 months ago, someone got my cruise control/function stalk to work, let's see if it gets disconnected again. Question: i noticed you didn't take off the airbag mounting plate to avoid strip t20 screws, was there enough space for you to tuck the wires underneath? How did you end up getting the wires to sit in the correct wire harness path?

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  4 года назад

      @@chh7681 I don't think disconnecting the battery for a long time is an issue, though you will get a couple of warnings (PASM/PTM? failures) which goes away after a short drive. It also have to re-learn the power windows by simply raising them up/down a couple of times.
      Best that I can remember, running the wires underneath wasn't difficult but may require further disassembly to gain access.

    Installed a new steering module so I don't have the stalks for cruise control and the MFD working also the PSM is faulted due to the steering angle sensor not programmed.Suspension seems to be stuck in sports mode perhaps due to the angle sensor?.

      On mine, the PSM shows a fault each time I disconnect the battery but goes away after a short drive. I guess I got lucky as I didn't have to calibrate my steering angle sensor and it seems okay.
      No idea about being stuck in sports mode and how it's even related to the steering angle or module, haven't read anyone else with that issue. I supposed the module you got is brand new and has no previous program which explains why the cruise control isn't working. I guess I did get lucky then as the donor car was pre-programmed except for the multifunction.

    • @jayi836
      @jayi836 5 лет назад

      I suspect it's all related to steering angle as the active suspension has to know where the car is going to firm up that corner.Since it was working fine before now the sport button is affected.
      Your right the PSM will always clear after a short drive. Could not locate a used module in Paul li's guide.
      Tried playing with the Durametric Pro but won't code the steering module what a useless tool for the price.
      I was able to turn off all the chimes and daytime running lights. then disable the PCM,XM,changer and NAV that I removed with the aftermarket radio. There's no need to see them listed on the MFD.

      I swapped out the steering column module from the 997.1 (2007-2009?) to 997.2 gen (2010-2012?) as it didn't support the multi function controls of the 991 steering wheel. The clock spring should be the same but I'm not familiar with doing steering swap on a Cayenne. You might want to contact gpsadapter.us if you have questions on getting multi function control to work on the steering wheel. I think the only time the clock spring might be different if you're trying to install a heated steering wheel and your old one didn't have it.

      Sounds like you're all set, just a new Macan wheel and appropriate airbag, wheels from other models should also work (most should work except newest 971 Panamera which has different wiring connector). As you stated, the horn may require coding at the dealer to work. In my case, it just worked after the wheel swap. It appears perhaps Porsche changed the way the horn is activated from simple ground wire to LIN BUS in later production, just my guess. Just remember to disconnect the battery (do not turn on ignition without the airbag) during the install so you don't get an airbag warning light.

      Unless you car came with heated wheel already, found this post in 6Speed - www.6speedonline.com/forums/997/275637-997-2-heated-wheel-conversion.html

    Do you have any idea if this is a plug and play for a 997.2? i was thinking of upgrading to the same 991.2 wheel

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  6 лет назад

      The 997.2 should already have the required steering column module but will probably need programming at the Dealer with PIWIS to enable paddle shifters on Tiptronic or multifunction to work (will also need gpsadapter). If your car is a manual and don't need the multifunction feature, then it should be plug and play, just the new wheel and airbag.

  • @diegoimaz3880
    @diegoimaz3880 4 года назад

    Does it work also with the 997.1 automatíc?

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  4 года назад +1

      Yes, but if you want the paddle shifters to work, it requires the updated steering control module part# 997.613.289.01 and programming by dealer/shop with PIWIS or similar. The paddle shifters on these newer wheels are awesome. I almost left mine even though my car is a manual.

    Jim, did you need to install any additional control units for your multifunction controls to work with the aftermarket head unit? Like a Paser or something?

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  4 года назад

      Well you do need a MOST adapter in order for the aftermarket unit to work with the factory Bose system and the aftermarket head unit has the multifunction wire connected to the MOST adapter. This is because the factory Bose system uses a fiber optic system. This (MOST H.U.R.) adapter is pricey but you can probably find cheaper alternatives nowadays. But I didn't use or need any other adapters like iDatalink Maestro steering wheel adapter, etc.

      @@atm4jim My 987.2 Cayman has a basic (non-Bose) system. So I didn’t need any adapters to make my Kenwood work. I am wondering in your case, what enables the steering wheel multifunction commands control your Kenwood unit.

      @@alexduhon1589 My Kenwood aftermarket head unit has a steering wheel multifunction output wire which connects to my H.U.R. MOST adapter. The 991 steering wheel also requires the STMV1 adapter from gpsadapter.us. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the non Bose setup though I imagine it would be simpler than with it.

      @@nicetime74 Yes, it worked for me, though totally unexpected as I was prepared to have to go to the shop/dealer with a PIWIS. Also, keep in mind, you may need to re-calibrate your steering angle sensor especially if your swapping to a new center module.
      Here's the step I used - From the start, select Porsche > Your car's model > Programming > Steering Col. Switch > Customer specific settings > Multifunction or Sport/Launch Display > Edit > input today's date (I left default value) > Finish > Installed > Save/Continue/Finish.
      In the Steering Col Switch settings, there are selections to edit rear wiper/washer, PDK/Tiptronic, speed control system (cruise control?), push to talk (???), headlight washing system, etc though I didn't have to change these.

I'm also biased towards the turbo models, love the styling with the wide rear fenders with the air vents for the intercoolers. Upgrading to get more horsepower is also easy with just a tune and exhaust.

      A quick way to check is the color of the 2 air bag connectors, it should match the 2 plugs of the steering wheel, tan and yellow. Also the airbag should have a silver round trim.
