I did swap out the center column piece which had the updated module so that I can get the car audio multi function controls to work. You will also need to get it programmed via the PIWIS at the dealer or use similar scan tool than can enable the appropriate feature/function.

For manual cars like mine, it was an easy swap, plug and play including the air bag (be sure to get the correct one and with the right connectors tan and yellow), no module needed, no programming from PIWIS (dealer), horn works, no warning lights. For cars with Tiptronic and for the paddle shifter to work, you will need the 997 613 289 01 module and dealer programming, don't think Durametric Pro has that option. As far as I know from the forums and gpsadapter.us, it should fit as most are the same except for the newer 971 Panamera which requires special wiring harness adapter. Check the color of the wiring harness.
I can only answer based on my setup which includes the factory Bose system and using the MOST HUR adapter. Do you know if your setup has the factory Bose system and are you using the MOST HUR to make the aftermarket work with the factory system? I got the shroud part # 95B-419-798-B-5Q0 from Sunset Porsche for $57 shipped, it had to be special ordered from Germany, took about a week, this is to cover the opening when removing the paddle shifters. The steering module 997-613-289-01 is for 997.2 and is only needed if you want the multifunction to work (will also require $350 gpsadapter and programming to enable it) or if your car is a Tiptronic and you want the paddle shifter to work. The steering module 997-613-289-01 is for 997.2 and is only needed if you want the multifunction to work (will also require $350 gpsadapter and programming to enable it) or if your car is a Tiptronic and you want the paddle shifter to work. My swap worked without it, horn worked and no errors showing on dashboard. I just swapped the wheel and airbag, simple plug and play.
Which wheel did you get? I got my airbag from eBay Paulmember83 for $459 but keep in mind, it's used and 1 of the connector is green and was modified to fit the tan connector. It works, no airbag warning light but knowing that now, I would probably have paid more ($699+ used) to avoid the "hacked" connector.
Jim, thanks for the part numbers so the steering module 997-613-289-01 will work on my 997.1? I do want to have the steering wheel controls to function with the paddle shifter removed.
@@jayi836 Yes, the steering module will work and is needed for the multifunction. If you have an aftermarket head unit, you will probably also need some special adapter which you may already have when it was installed. I just got mine working and will be putting out an updated video soon. But keep in mind, it's a lot of additional expense and trouble just to get the volume, illumination and station up/down to work on the wheel.
Jim, did you do a side by side on the wheels, old v. new? Were they the same diameter? BTW, did you sell your old one? it looks like what I am looking for.
I just measured them, the old wheel is 15" in diameter and 14.75" for the new.
I still have the old one, I'm considering keeping it for if when I sell the car.
@@atm4jim Thanks Jim, I would be interested if you wanted to sell it, it looks like exactly what I was looking for. I am daunted by the 991.2 conversion!
Would the paddle shifters work on the tipronic auto or would you still need the adapters?
If you car is 997.1, you'll need the updated steering control module 997.613.289.01 and programming at the dealer or a shop with capable programming tool such as the PIWIS.
Hey brother, ive 997.1 Trip Turbo, i am so into doing this swap on my car also, could you please tell me what i need and where i can find with what code i need etc for trip horn etc to work also thank you so much
My horn worked without any coding but I've read some people requiring a trip to the dealer. If you have a Tiptronic and want the paddle shifters to work, you will need the steering control module 997.613.289.01and have it programmed by the dealer or a shop with a PIWIS.
If you have a manual transmission and don't need the multi function to work, it should be a direct swap.
Thank you! I was also wondering do i need anything else for buttons to work for volume up down etc
And ive a 958 Cayenne pdk sterring wheel does it have any size diffirence than others? It would fit right i hope i didnt waste my money :) Much love from spain
@@porschefreak1034 It should fit. For multi-function to work, you will an adapter from gpsadapter.us
Jim Wong hey Jim, i got the 971 Steering wheel, we puted it on but horn, pdk doesnt work :( what should i do?
How bout air bag light
No air bag light.
@@atm4jim how does the newer model air bag sensor connect with 997 plus. I don't understand thst part
@@davidgrig7707 It's plug and play, but you do need to get a new airbag as the 997 airbag will not fit. It should have a yellow and tan connectors that matches the 2 airbag connectors from the steering wheel.
Did you just eyeball the wheel to get it on straight?
Yes, pretty much and remember to mark a line before removing. Unlike the old wheel, the new wheel had a center marking.
Jim Wong Thanks. When I finally get into a 997, this is one of those must do mods. The newer Porsche wheels look amazing!
@@K1dPhresh1 Thank you! I agree.
Please throw away your styrofoam table cover... That noise is driving me crazy!! Good video though :)
Sorry, I just realized yours is a manual, obviously the paddle shifters don’t work, lol
No worries, lol. It should work with tip, but will require programming by shop/dealer and new updated module 997.613.289.01.
