I have the 14 like the one in the video. Its the best! I love it. It is the perfect size in my opinion. The 16 had strong overtones that I didn’t like. This one did not ring as much and was closer in sound to the traditional Djembe without the hassle of maintenance. Good luck with your choice. Remo is an excellent brand.
When I listened to the video audio in my car I thought the 14 sounded the best as well, thanks for further confirmation!

I have a few 14" & one 16". For slower ballad type songs i'll use the 16" for it's deeper , softer tones. Everything else i use the 14" ones.
We used this in our marching band competition as our opener (Oak Grove High School Mississippi Marching Band Champions 2017) and it did its job well. However, the head broke after 3 weeks of playing. Just note that this isn't designed to be played for 12 hours each week in direct sunlight, humid air, and constant changing temperatures. And while being played by someone who learned how to play within 2 days.
these are Very durable, you may have had a bad one or you may have been the reason it had such a Very abnormally short life. as these should last for many many years without any problems if treated properly.

I wish I could see a good RUclips video from Remo giving us tonal recommendations for tuning their various djembe sizes. I have a 12" Remo djembe and I just ordered a 14". They are fantastic instruments, but the lack of tuning videos for Remo djembes or video instructions on how to use their included sound control pads in djembes is appalling.
I tune mine to my ear and what sounds good, this is the best way
@@garywest3763 Yup. That's what I did. I honestly didn't perceive much of a pitch change while tightening the heads. Tone, on the other hand, changed noticeably by placing the sound control pads in specific places and tightening the heads. I also removed about 90% of the ringing in both drums in the same way.
Nothing synthetic will ever sound like the traditional djembes, but Remo gets pretty darn close. For the price, I am very happy with the results.

Ok, I'm torn between 14 and 16... maybe I need both.
the 14 sounds much better for all around playing to my ears, where the 1 sounds like it would be more limited and specialized and Not get played as often

I think the 14" djembe sounds the best by far. But both the 14 & 16 djembe would have sounded a LOT better on stands to let the sound out of the bottom. In the video the smaller drums are played on stands, and they had the larger stand sitting in the back ground but didn't use it on the 14 & 16.
They did use their feet to lift the mondo djembe

Hi Randuski, That was the original Pyramid Stand: DI-6295-00. We've since upgraded to the 'Drum Riser' that accommodates more base diameters, and is foldable for easier transport/storage. Check it out here: remo.com/products/product/drum-riser/ Thanks!
what is the right pitch for 16 ' remo djembe I just bought a new drum head and have some problemes to find good sound?
I have an older Remo Djembe 16 and want to get a new head.. Should I get the Skyndeep, or the NuSkyn to not have the ring?
It depends acoustical playing or mic'd most pro's like the Skyndeep for acoustical play
Nuskyn heads have less overtones. Skyndeep is closer to the Fiberskyn head which have a brighter sound and more overtones. The Nuskyn has a added layer in the head to make the head sound closer to animal skin. It does require more strike force than the other two heads, I hope this helps. There is more info on Remo's site about the differences in the heads. The Nuskyn does cost more and not as many dealers stock it unfortunately.
Hi,I’m from Hong Kong and I had your company’s Leon Mobley Signature series 12’ inch djembe second handed a long time. Now, my drumhead has minor drum skin tears and swells along with some tuning parts fracture. So, I tried to my best everywhere but still couldn’t find any products available…What can I do now ?

I think the 18" is "special order" from the factory. I own a 16" , the bass fundamental is around 50 Hz. Deep enough for me to play heartbeats for a chant band.
They call it the easiest djembe. They'r'e not kidding.

16 has best sound but is too big. 14 has best size but bass is a bit weak.
these are Tuneable!! you can get more bass in a 14 by tuning it
12" and 10" have better tight sound, 14" and 16" have too much sustain reverb.
I have a 14 and I like the 14 djembe sound the best the 10 & 12, do Not sound as good, neither does the 16

Remo 💍 ring. There must be a baffle. Every remo, every one has a ring. My djembe drum is much better.
