Wide pieces of plastic cut from a plastic 55 gallon drum with locked up tires set on them work as good skates to load up things with locked up tires. I learned that working as a wrecker operator.
Good o square body pickup👍 Chevy & GMC produced those square body models from 1973 - 1991 except in 1987, the half ton & three quarter ton regular cab pickups were finished & in 1989, the one ton regular cab pickups were also finished.
Great Find! I just got my 1979 C30 single cab Camper Special on the road.I replaced everything. It had been sitting for 15years. I LS/4l80e swapped the 454/400 and 6/8 dropped it. I am working on the AC as we speak. I have many rides but this is my favorite. I look forward to watching you build her. Great channel too.
Your 454/TH400 would be the quickest way to get it going... AND it's on hand and ready to go. But if I was in the big block game, I'd be on the lookout for a 8.1L/4L80E combo. Those are 496 cubic inch LS engines, basically. A buddy of mine recently made the swap in his '97 crew cab dually and he loves it! Great score on the clean square!
Absolutely 1 of my A-1 favorite trucks! I personally, would go for the LS5 454, with the Edelbrock “RV Package, (“Performer aluminum int. man., Performer Plus cam & lifter kit, matching dual roller timing chain and gear set, & a 750 cam. carburetor “), & a 4L80-E transmission with shifting kit. Plenty of pulling power, and not bad mileage either! Best wishes to you and your family, including this entire project!
I would use a gen 6 454 and 4l80e combo. Still won't get good gas mileage, but that is not why someone owns a crew cab dually. Your current big block plan sure seems like a good one.
12 valve nv5600. That's what I'm doing with my 1987 C30 camper special crew cab long bed. Hoping to push around 400 horsepower and 1100 torque. Beautiful truck man.
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop I've got a 2001 gmc 2500hd with the 8.1/Allison 5sp with 4.10 gear. The truck pulls awesome. Our camper is around 9k and the truck handles it easily, a trailer with a car on it, is laughable really. Would make a awesome combo for your dually.
Ill always prefer Dodge and Ford over Chevy but these old CC Squarebodies are so cool It really depends on what I was using the truck for but honestly id go 12/24V Cummins swap with allison trans swap
Sweet score dude! That paint job and the spoilers and rack really make it stand out from the rest. I look forward to the clean up video. 454 will be great in it, hell that’s what it came with. What are your use plans for it? Tow rig or show rig?
That's a sweet truck and it looks like it has lot's of options the only thing I don't like it it's a automatic. A truck like that should have a manual transmission a 700R4 trans is one of the weakest automatic trans to be put in a car and they went and put it in a crew cab towing rig
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop & 87 was the first year for gasoline fuel injected motors. Since that pickup is an 87 like you said, it's an R30 because in that year, the C/K series were dropped & renamed R/V series & why they did that was to make a distinction between the square body models & the upcoming next generation C/K series pickups which were the OBSs for the 88 model year because both of those body designs were gonna be in production at the same time which lasted up through 91. So all of the square body models that were produced from 87 - 91 were R/V series.
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop interesting history on those square bodies began in 68 which was the first year for development on them. Vehicle components underwent simulated testing on computers before prototypes were built for real world testing. Then they began to build clay models but they didn't look similar to square body design until late-69. Shortly before that, a concept pickup was built & looked similar to the 72 - 80 Dodge D-series pickups & was supposed to be released in the 72 model year but got pushed back to the 73 model year instead because they didn't wanna be a copycat so they went back to the drawing board to try to come up with a different design. In 70, the clay models began to look closer to the square bodies & in the summer of 72, the real square body models were finally revealed & began being delivered to the dealerships.
Nice project buddy , just pulled a 79 suburban home that’s been sitting for a while and put it up on my channel. What engine trans setup you going with?
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop goodluck buddy, will be an awesome rig when you are done. I have a spare 454 and th400 sitting at my shop I was flirting with dropping into the suburban if it didn’t run. Got it so cheap I didn’t care honestly. But keep coming with the videos man!

Nice. That’s a great tip 👍🏻👍🏻
This is going to be an awesome project. Very excited to see the progress on this one. Great find 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks and thanks for watching
I’d put a 12 valve Cummins in it. But the big block will be very nice. Can’t wait to see more videos of this truck!
Yeah the big block will be in it temporarily. Till I get some money saved up for something else. 👍🏻👍🏻

That brings back memories. Ours was white. But yes I'd use the 454, unless you have access to a 12 valve Cummins
That’s the plan. Never know what it’ll get in the future

Great score on the clean square!
That has been talked about. Would be a killer combo
I’m amazed at how straight that brute is. On the edge of my seat here!
Thanks for sharing where it was man 🙌
Your welcome. I’m glad you saved it.
I can't wait to see it on the road again!
I’m excited man
I was rooting for the winch 😮 definitely a beast to pull Juicy Lucy
Lol she was struggling with the locked up tires
454/TH400 just like the Square Body God's intended!!
👊🏻🤘🏻
454 would be great. That torque will come in handy with that heavy truck especially if you start pulling trailers a lot . Real cool truck!
Yeah I think so too. Thanks for watching
Congrats my friend! So excited for this project!
Thanks so much!
Nice find.
Thank you
cool truck , , stay safe my friend
Thanks. Same to you
I think the 454 is gonna be plenty fun for that old boy.
Totally agree
It shouldn’t be hard to repair the rip in the seat! Man this truck will clean up beautifully!!
Yeah I hope it does 👊🏻

I am also. Welcome aboard 👊🏻

I LOVE IT!

Super awesome truck man. Looking forward to seeing this for years to come. Glad you got the rear to break free. 😎
Thanks. It is definitely a cool old truck. Make sure to check out the latest video. Pretty unbelievable how it cleans up

So pumped for this project. Id love to see a 24v CR/G56 swap. But you can never go wrong with a 454

Oooo i love it!!
Good deal. It’s your truck haha. You need to stop buying so man 😁😂

It really is 👍🏻👍🏻
Thats a cool looking truck definitely gotta go with a 454 gas hog 😂
Haha that’s the plan I believe 👊🏻
454/400 turbo would be a good combo but a 8.1/Allison 5sp or a 6sp would be my choice for the truck.
That would be sweet

6 liter LS or a 6BT Cummins.

I believe that C30 is a 1987 or older because it doesn't have a trip odometer which was introduced in 1988 in both the square bodies & new OBSs.
It is a 87 👍🏻👍🏻thanks for the reply. I’m not a square body guy lol
