This is impressive and coming exactly at the right time as I was about to create QR codes for my business. Thank you so much, Gary. Great and relevant content as always!
You never cease to amaze! Thank you. BTW, I was at a trade show this week and a friend of mine there just switched from Windows to a Mac. I have directed him to your channel to get him "most out of his Mac". I'm sure he'll subscribe when he sees your lessons.
Awesome-this is so useful! I’m a technical writer and one place I worked at we used a service to create QRCs with links to the user guides. Now I know I can use a Mac to do this. 😀 Also, I had no idea about the network shortcut. Every restaurant, bar, or coffee shop that offers free Wi-Fi should use this. This would be so much better than asking the waitstaff, who may have just started, for the network name and password. One time I asked for the network password at an Italian restaurant I like and my question got passed to just about the entire staff until it finally got to the bartender who knew it. 😂 It was pretty funny at the time but also I felt a bit bad since it took so many people to answer it. It would have been so much easier for them to show me a QRC.
Wow. It is actually there. This is really helpful for me. I never used a shortcut app. I think now I need to learn and use the shortcut app. Because there will be more things like this. Thank you. 😀😀
Thanks again Gary. Is this feature of creating shortcuts available in all MacOS versions? I am on Ventura currently, the last that my inter Mac can operate on.
Great video! Do you know of a way do the reverse? It's remarkable how many emails I get with QR codes in them (which shows a fundamental misunderstanding of their purpose) so I have to take a screenshot and then drag it in to a website that will tell me its URL. Is there a way to simplify this problem? Ideally, I would like to eyeball the URL with an option to have my browser go there.
Thanks Sir for this. Question - If i create a QR code in my iphone, will my friends using ANDROID phones be able to use this ? Is this QR code only for apple users ?
QR codes are just another way to show a web address (URL). It doesn't matter what sort of device you have any more than that would with a text URL like "macmost.com."
Is there by chance any utility in the iPadOS or phone OS that does this? If not and you have to resort to an app to do it are there any that are considered stable and safe?
I consider myself a Mac Guru. You put me to shame. Thank you, Gary. So I have a question. Is there a template for having a small graphic in the middle, like a logo? Based on what I know about QR Codes, the info repeats as a redundancy. And I just trial and errored my way to adding a small graphic, but would rather have a template.
QR codes point to URLs (web pages). Is the PDF on a web page or does it have a web address? If so, create the QR code for that web address. If not, you need to upload the PDF to some site or service so it is available online. People need a public place on the web to get the PDF first.
If I understand what you are asking, that's the opposite of this. You are PROVIDED a QR code by a site, and you use that to set up verification codes in the Passwords app. For that, always look for the text or phrase that is provided, usually under or next to the QR code on the site. Looks like a long random password. You can copy that and the Passwords app has a place to paste that in.
Those QR code companies could decide to start holding your link hostage until you start paying them a monthly fee. It's so frustrating to understand why people use those. You can self host your own tracking URLs.
Apple is absolutely determined to stay the weekend soccer dad company. Maddening. Make a QR code for a WiFi network. Brilliant! EXCEPT THAT IT SHOWS THE NETWORK PASSWORD IN PLAIN TEXT ABOVE THE QR CODE! 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏻♂️. They are trying to going out of their way to fail in enterprise environments! I can’t present that to our team now! 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏻♂️ 🤦🏻♂️
Do you mean like at 7:09 in this video? It only shows the network info there because I am showing you the results of the action in Quick Look. The idea is you print it out on a sign or something. You wouldn't be including the info in that case.
This is impressive and coming exactly at the right time as I was about to create QR codes for my business. Thank you so much, Gary. Great and relevant content as always!
I didn’t even know you could do this on the Mac. Thank you Gary!
This was gold. I was so annoyed using websites to do this, and it was on my MBP all the time! Thanks so much
I just got a Mac Mini and didn't know this feature existed. Excellent. No cost to make a QR code and no risk of privacy invasion. What a great tool.

Oh man ... I had no idea. One of the coolest videos you've put together, Gary. Really cool. Thank you. 🙇♂🙇♂🙇♂
Honestly, the amount of times I’ve gone to the internet to create a QR code, and all this time I could do so from my Mac 😱
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Gary. I knew I could create these in the Affinity suite, but this is very convenient.
Thanks Gary! You’re the best😊
Didn’t realise this shortcut existed - super useful!
Thanks for that! I'm amazed how many tricks are up my Mac's sleeve! 🔥🧨💪🏽🤠👍🏽🧨🔥
I just had someone ask me how to do this. Very helpful
This is fantastic, thank you for the info!
That really was an eye-opening clip! I never knew…
Gary - you are the Apple Magician.
You don't MAKE the magic - you reveal it's wonder to us.
Thanks to you "Gary, the Great Mac-deany".

Looks like everyone here, me included, are amazed by this! Thanks Gary!
Thanks Gary! This is so useful, as always!
Very useful. There's not much reason to use a third party. I had no idea about most of this.
This is gold! Thanks 😊
Nice one. Very useful.
Wow! Super useful, thanks Gary!
Brilliant! This is such a great tip! I had no idea that was there. Thank you!
very very helpful video Gary
Great find. Thank you.
Love this channel so much
Absolutely fantastic 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️

WOW. This as really great!
very useful video
Another Gem!!
Thanks a million
Thanks!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉

It was introduced with Monterey, but I don't remember when the QR code action was added. Look and see.
@@macmost Thanks Gary. I will look into that again.
I saw what you did with the short bit of music at the beginning of your video. It sounds like a few notes from 'The Camera Eye', by Rush. Neat.
Not sure what you mean. It is the same sound I use at the start of all of my videos.
Great tip but is it possible to change the output from a pixel file to a vector file like a svg?
Thank You Namaste
Super useful: Thanks. M
Great Tip! Is there an option for SVG or a vector?
No, I don't think so.
Great Gary, as always. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not aware of a way to do that. Must give you a good laugh when you see that. And there's no URL or link accompanying the QR code? Funny!
I use QR codes for quickly sharing Wi-Fi passwords with my other devices, or logging into my accounts
I wanted to make a QR Bar Code, so I asked Chat GPT to create one. This is better. Thanks.
Thanks. Do you know how to include all of the fields for the contact? Unfortunately the qr does not include company name.
Sorry, I'm not sure how you can customize a contact QR code at that level.
What software is being used to show your keyboard clicks?
Thanks!
That is done in my screen recording software, ScreenFlow.
Thanks Sir for this.

Is this QR code only for apple users ?

Androids should be able to read this just fine. QR codes are like PDFs. They are a universal standard.
@@HabuBeemer Thanks for sharing.

You can do the same thing on the iPhone or iPad with the same Shortcuts app.

Based on what I know about QR Codes, the info repeats as a redundancy. And I just trial and errored my way to adding a small graphic, but would rather have a template.
Thank you. How do I generate a QR code for a pdf document?
QR codes point to URLs (web pages). Is the PDF on a web page or does it have a web address? If so, create the QR code for that web address. If not, you need to upload the PDF to some site or service so it is available online. People need a public place on the web to get the PDF first.
please send me the link for this shortcut. 🙏🏼
Watch the video. I show you have to get the Shortcut from Apple's Gallery.
Can you do one for verification codes in passwords ? It always says scan a QR codes

It appears that all of my shortcuts have somehow been deleted. How can I restore the full complement of shortcuts that should be in my macOS?
Are you sure you have the right thing selected in the left sidebar? Perhaps you are just looking at a different grouping there.

This is amazing, just what I was looking for and it's just on my Mac, thank you Gary !
