- The Splatoon universe has got to be one if not the most fleshed out world Nintendo has ever created. Every nook and cranny of this game is oozing with lore. Today, we're going to break down the backstory of the clothing and weapon brands in Splatoon!

So I didn’t know this before but I just learned that Pearl is actually the founder of enperry.

I mean, that's a lot more common than you think. A lot of companies, Mitsubishi for instance, made battleships and tanks in WW2 and others. maybe not clothing brands though.
Not inaccurate to real life: hitachi is a Japanese company that makes tanks, sex toys, trains, fridges and ovens. GE, an American company, makes microwaves, trains, computers and lightbulbs

my favorite part of the salmon run is when grizz tells you to team up to take the mothership but dont even think of starting a union. it makes you wonder why the jellies are unionizing
I really wish there was a brand dedicated to making fancy clothes.
I’m talking blazers, fedoras, trilbies, dress shirts, vests, ties, oxfords, etc.
I can't wait until I can make a Blues Brothers outfit in Splatoon.

Hate to be frank, but the closest you’re gonna get to that right now is Splash Mob. And even then, it’s not even that fancy.
Zekko does some formal wear, but yeah, there should be.

Splatoon really is an impressive series with how much lore it holds, especially with how simple of a game (haha funny squid shoot ink) it first seems. Nintendo needs more credit on how well they’ve constructed the world of Splatoon. Nice work on the video by the way.
Edit: yes, Springfest Square is one of the best, although in my opinion Splatocalypse was similarly amazing.

I like how each brand has a clothing style to it and their backstories represent them
so firefin is basically the supreme of splatoon but not quite.
I imagine a toothpaste brand with the same logo design of Firefin in Splatoon universe
I remember people comparing Toni kensa to supreme, and others have accused them of involvement in money laundering schemes (seriously people are really suspicious of Toni Kensa for some reason).
Marie's umbrella was bought at as a prop, so I imagine that the outfit with Kensa's crest is a costume that happened to have it.
It's very likely that the Squid Sister's and Off the Hook's outfits are made by Kensa, which would make Kensa the artist who graduated from Inkblot Art Academy (allegedly) with a thesis on large zippers.

Incorrect Pearl wears Enperry clothing as she’s the owner of it. As Pearls crown is on the Enperry logo.

Rockenberg is based on punk and rock fashion, the boots are modeled after doc martens, which is backed up by "lasts a lifetime" as docs are known to last a long time
Yes!! That’s what I was gunna say but you beat me too it! You can even see the doc Martin influence with the yellow stitching at the base of the soul just like actual docs.

I think that the lore and background behind the elements of the world of splatoon really add to the complexity and personality of the series.
When I first saw the Forge SplatterShot Pro I thought the Forge logo on the nozzle were eyes to make the weapon look cooler lol.

What's interesting to note about Foil's weapons is how they're all multi-purpose. Squeezer has two separate firing modes, for combat and painting. Flingza Roller has a normal horizontal flick but a huge vertical flick for movement and attacking. Baller can be used for offense and defense, and so can Bubble Blower.
Just came up with this headcanon that people in the Splatoon universe tried to make a petition to change the SquidForce name to SplatForce and to replace the second squid in the logo to an octo to make it more "inclusive" for Octolings since they also do Ink battles.
Also the Dolphin logo looks like it says "Puke"
That ia an interesting one... But Octo also has their own brand afaik.
Plus, none of the Inklings knows about Octolings yet. They still think they are Inklings.
Specifically, they think they are just Inklings with weird hair.

Something I always wished is some kind of open world free roaming through inkopolis where you can get side missions from the brands to gain special gear but also lore from those brands and see the faces behind them, cause the fashion they do really interested me.

I have a few more tidbits to add here!
more lore for your favorite brand: A lot of graffiti artists have their roots in Snapper Canal, and the guy who made firefin (or at least the logo) is one of them. Way back when at the time of the brand's conception, most graffiti artists would draw these big pieces, but the firefin guy would just draw this tiny little pufferfish character, and it was a hit! (from the graffiti artist interview in haikara walker)
while its pretty apt to compare takoroka to nike, tentatek is the literal nike brand! the Sesame Salt 270s are designed and named after the Nike Air Max 270 shoes, and the Sea Slug Volt 95s are designed and named after the Nike Air Max 95 shoes, both of which were what the japanese nike-sponsored splatfest, new model vs popular model, was centered around. maybe takoroka is more like adidas?
i remember reading on some japanese wiki page that nouveau brand makes art supplies and neo brand also makes household appliances, could be speculation but it seems to check out! the name for neo brand appears to read ツカオ電気 (tsukao electric), tsukao doesnt mean anything, but switch around the letters to カツオ (katsuo), which means bonito, and we got ourselves another fish/food name.
Something you didnt mention about "fizzy"; their logo appears on the vending machines in Splatoon 2, so theyre probably another soda company like the "vending machine" brand?

Enperry Head Cannon: Enperry Sided with Pearl before off the hook was created, and she was a fashion model. And since Enperry has a royal vibe to it, pearl's signature look when she was a model consist of a crown, thus why she wears one now.

I wouldn't characterize Nouveau the way you did. The French name + the fact that the sell brushes and pens means they're a brand that repurposes art supplies for combat. The Tri-Slosher is an bucket intended for cleaning brushes, as the Japanese name implies. The Dapple Dualies are a reference to a common technique for dappling, where you put ink on a toothbrush and flick it to make spots.

I have a headcannon that tenta missiles were created in collaboration with tentatek, since tentatek is responsible for tenta-cola and the missiles launched from the launcher, when you look closely, are soda bottles. :)
I think that deco comes from decem, the Latin word for ten, like in decapod, ten footed, squids have 10 limbs

Minigame idea, why not let us work for each of the brands in little fun minigames. They started with Grizzco, it would be great to see the lore for ourselves and I just want more minigames since I personally miss that arcade thing from Splatoon 1 with SquidJump, SquidVolleyBall etc.
First they killed Squid Jump, Squid Ball, and Squid Kart, and now Squid Beatz!
My favourite brands are: Annaki, Rockenburg, and Toni Kensa. Definitely a pattern there lol

I wish you had mentioned that Toni Kensa is a tribute/parody of Uniqlo, right down to the logo shape and the red clothespins on the TK brand weapons. It's kind of weird that Zekko is aimed towards "surfer" crowds in a world with Inklings who can't swim, although we've seen the jellyfish people swim and it's not clear whether or not water is bad for non Squids/Octos Like Sheldon, Crusty Sean, Spike, etc.
My theory about Auto is that they’re a transportation manufacturing company that also helped make battleships during the Great Turf War. The reason why the Auto Bomb is labeled by Auto might be because they collaborated with Squidforce to make a Bomb based on one of their submarines.

...Actually, I think there's something interesting to note about Dolphin's weapons:
They all appear _low quality._
The L3 seems to be a slightly modified water hose, rolled up into the gun's "cylinder" and the _Squiffer_ is _literally_ a inkling-version swiffer spray bottle _duct taped together_ with other plastic bits to turn it into a charger.
I'd say that's actually a facinating characteristic. While all these other brands, even when their guns look like toys, still have their guns look factory assembled, Dolphin's guns feel _slipshod_ in comparision.
2:46 there are several characters who wear pure empery gear but the one you are probably referring to is emperor. (The other main ones are prince, Squidkid Jr., N-Pacer, and Laceless.)
I really wish Annaki had more clothing items and a weapon too, maybe Splatoon 3 will give us the Annaki Flingza Roller or something, a guy can only dream...😔

My head cannon is that the squid beak splatoon needs some extra dough for they’re supplies so they just make gear to get some extra cash.
As someone that wears and loves Dr Martins, saying that the Rockenburg brand was boring felt kinda bleh.
As someone who really likes the firefin charger and firefin visor, I feel bad for my inkling now

tentatek is a really clear Adidas and Yeezys reference with the iromakis and the model number nomenclature
Annaki and Rockberg are my favourite brands. Rickberg got the best boots, the black and cherry punks.

judging by the description , rockenberg seems to be a reference to doc martens, a brand well-known for their high quality leather boots that cost like $200 but last you a lifetime. doc martens also sounds a little bit like rockenberg!

Still relatively new to Splatoon, but currently my favorite brands are Annaki and Rokenburg. Headgear ranges from Annaki or Octoking facemask to various headphones, Black Inky Rider Jacket, and Punk Blacks Boots, giving myself/my character a biker punk style. Which is what style I'm trying to go for irl now!

Since you were comparing brands in game to IRL brands, I'd like to mention that the Forge logo, as seen on the Skull Bandana, looks very similar to the Fila logo.
Isn’t there also a submarine in some Octo expansion levels that looks a bit like an Autobomb? I think there was some explanation about that somewhere but I forget

hey, have you ever noticed that there are some interesting posters of inklings and octolings with some kind of octoling brand in the map The Reef? I have a theory that they were added in v. 4.2.0, since some of them portray octolings, and are a brand made by the octolings. I am currently redrawing all of them to get a better idea of what this brand is, because maybe they could be present in Splatoon 3, as the first brand made by the octos! (if you want to make a video about it, I would be happy to share the information I collected and the drawings I am making!)
