My overall thoughts summarized from this video! (this is probably gonna be long sorry) 1) Genshin 4.8 looks cool. I don't think it's anything crazy, but I'm always excited for the summer events + new content = win 2) Emilie looks aight. Her design is growing on me a bit, but still not a huge fan and in general I just don't use dendro a lot tbh. Will wait to see how it feels to play her ingame before making any final conclusions tho. 3) Skins are fire. I love the Kirara skins design, too bad I don't use her LOL 4) Natlan shows promise and a lot of characters look dope, but the lack of range in skin tone once again raises questions. Don't get me wrong, I'm honestly super excited for this region and can't wait to learn more about it/the characters (the Capitano reveal was crazy), but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed and confused with the choice of color palette for the overall range of these skin tones. (TL;DR you can’t properly pay homage/take inspiration by just picking and choosing certain parts of different cultures, but leaving out the most important aspect being the people) It might’ve been hard to follow along in the video since this was just off the top of my head and my initial reaction, but I think the biggest red flag that arises with this situation is that while this is a fictional game, Genshin impact takes inspiration from different cultures/regions in our real world. To borrow and use all these aspects of several different (real) countries, but leave out/replace the people that belong to them is just not a great message to be sending. I'm sure to many people, it feels as if they're being told that their cultures are beautiful and befitting to be used as source material in the game, but they themselves aren’t worthy of being there. Yes, at the end of the day it's a fictional game and HoYoverse chooses to put whatever they want in Genshin Impact, but to a lot of people it would be nice to see not only the music/architecture/clothing etc… of their cultures and countries being represented, but also they the people themselves in this game. Though it may seem this way on the outside, HoYoverse is definitely not a singular entity and there is no way these choices for the designs were made by a singular person. This was a choice that had to be mutually reached by all parties and teams involved in creating this game, and for that reason I can't imagine that the reason behind it is something that can be so easily explained. I'm sure they're also well aware of community sentiment, so for that reason like I said in the video, I would just love to understand more of the creative direction process behind the scenes at HoYoverse and why it is that they went with this route. For my thoughts about Natlan as a region and it's gameplay, I like what I see so far but don't have too many thoughts about it until we're shown more about it. Sorry for the long paragraphs but just wanted to better explain my thoughts from this video after I've had more time to process everything! Overall still excited for the content that's coming up, but just wish there was a bit more representation of the people from the cultures/regions that Natlan is supposedly based on.
Thank you for speaking up Ant. Right after some of the trailers, i saw so much anti-black and colorist sentiments all across the internet, in RUclips comments and on Twitter and Reddit (I even saw someone say, “Good. The less, the better.” in response to someone being sad about the lack of dark skin😭) It was so incredibly discouraging and I’m really glad other CCs & the VAs are speaking out because it disempowers colorists and racists and empowers more people to speak out. I can’t say I have any faith in Hoyo to actually do anything about it, but there’s a better chance some positive change might occur the more people speak out, compared to nothing changing if no one speaks out.
As someone who lives in a country that is being used as inspiration for Natlan, I am grateful to hear you talking about the problem that is occurring with Natlan
There is no fucking problem. It’s a damn game. This bullshit about ‘diversity’, and ‘inclusivity’, and’ ‘representation’, is ask a product of the American system. The rest of the world doesn’t fucking care about it
I'm South American and honestly? I'm used to being disappointed in people for dismissing our culture when it comes to pop media. They can showcase our lands, our music, our food... But we are too weird to show, I guess. lmao Really hurts to see a game I love so much constantly downplay their colorism and flat out ignore users' feedback. I know that from now on, I won't spend a penny on it. Esp since dollars are 5x my currency, what on Earth was I thinking?
Well sorry to hear that, but how could you even expect darker characters from a Chinese game, majorly played in China, a country whose beauty standard is skin that looks like paper. I know it hurts and that’s it’s unfair but If they made all or even just the archon dark skinned they would’ve lost a majority of their players and income
@@TheRealAomineDaiki1 Aa i see you're going around excusing this behavior. So bc people are racist and find dark skin unattractive, we should not put poc at the forefront to protect companies money?? This is how hoyo thinks yes, but why are you going around defending that thought? Have u thought that morally the right thing to do would be for the company to represent and maybe change some misconseptions and stereotypes, instead of being a part of the problem. Ofc hoyo isn't a morally right company, but public opinion and boycotting forces companies to cave in, even if they don't actually care.
As a 1.0 player, and poc, I really did expect them to kill it with the designs and add more diversity since we have been asking for it for quite a while. They have came a long way since I first started playing. There is no way they havent heard us... the clothes and skins are cool but for Natlan diversity... I am disappointed.
did no one really notice that a skill/burst (maybe) for the pyro archon was revealed when coming at Capitano???😭😭😭😭😭 LIKE GUYS, SHE TRANSFORMED INTO A PHEONIX!?!?!?
@@Elijah.04 I mean I get it but it’s still very reminiscent of Diluc. It just makes me giggle. Diluc truly becoming the “we have the pyro archon at home” unit.
I knew that they wouldn’t make a dark skinned archon bc those things don’t sell well in China, and other big portions of their player base like Japan and Korea
@@amasenak bro you know that’s not what’s I meant, I meant to type this like this don’t sell. I’m not calling them a thing but combining similar stuff and saying things, sorry if it hurt your feelings that you don’t understand how to use English

I think the region looks nice. Archon is a bit iffy but I'll get used to it. Hoyo really needs to use darker tones though like, Other than Iansan in this trailer, there is pretty much nobody who is dark/even like brown ish. I wouldnt mind if they just darken the skin tone, even a little bit. (also now theres drama with one guy whose based on a god(unsure?) so thats a thing now. Hope they make tweaks before the region comes out.)
@@lovelyquhe is most prolly the pyro sovereign or the familiar of the original pyro archon coz why would he of all ppl have smth to say about Neuvillette? There has to be smth some connection between them and both being sovereigns made more sense, until i realized he referred to the dragon sovereigns as "they" so at this point idk. But i would love to see how the plot unfolds in the Natlan patches. He is called One Entombed with Primal Fire. Watever his identity is, sounds ominous af.
I’m so disappointed to be honest.. I think most of us were excited that there would be actual and better indigenous representation but this is what hoyo “cooked” up? Man I hope they change models and correct names. Very excited for Capitino lore !!
😂 that will never happen remember it's hoyoverse which never listens and Chinese government never shows or likes black characters it's rare for dark chatcters getting chance
don't think they would correct anything, sumeru was similar and they did nothing, and at the end of the day, people will just enjoy everything "besides" the problems
im so, so dissapointed in natlan, i was so excited to at least see other countries being represented in the game ( my country el salvador is not that relevant in games so i had no hope for it to at least be taken as an inspiration ) but when chasca appeared, i got a bit happy, the only thing i didn't like is that her skin is PAPER WHITE and that she's cryo, when in my country, chasca is the virgin of water, it would jave been amazing to see blue colors and a hydro vision on her, maybe not our clothes but our colors. she's very pretty, i love her, but i just wish they took their time in making her look like she's the virgin of water. TT
Dehya looks more fitting for natlan than the pyro archon lol. She looks cool but like you said, looks out of place. if they used a more "divine" like outfit and dehya's skin tone on her then it would've been perfect imo.
Capitano the GOAT. Approve your praise and glazing, keep going🔥🔥 He is for sure menace, the strongest harbinger, apex of strength, absolutele power, HIM
@@antventurei think he will get the Al Haitham/ Wriothesley model that actually has actual muscle definition on their arms and they r buffer than the noodle arms itto model they used for male characters previously.
As a poc i alr knew we werent getting any proper representation, but i also know that its down to more than just simply "colourism" or "racism". Business wise, its probably not as profitable to make dark characters as sad as it is. Ive js learned to take it as what it is. The majority dont care about it, the majority dont even like the cultural influence that natlan has. I at LEAST appreciate the work and effort put into music and architecture
I just want genshin to have a wider diversity of characters, and I know damn well that isn’t happening next nation cuz we’re going to the most snowy area 💀
Imagine they have the darker tones in the next region 😭😭😭 Natlan has paper white people and it’s the PYRO region, where’s the tan? If shneznya (CRYO region) has darker tones, I’m gonna be flabbergasted😭😭😭😭
The only reason is its for business, ig. Hoyo definitely has a capable research team. And what they produce is definitely the result of the research they conducted. Many players say that they want characters with darker skin tones, but maybe the results of their research say that characters with light skin tones are more desirable, so
yeah if they wanna keep they’re lightskin agenda they are perfectly within their rights to- so long as they don’t use real world cultural inspiration that belongs to people of mixed skin tones and races to profit. it is egregious for genshin to warp the gospel and culture of real gods and indigenous people into an aesthetic they deem profitable in the same way it would be holy inappropriate to take jesus christ and implement have as a 8 ft tall nonchalant dreadhead in a game. the difference is one would never be tolerated while the other is seen as “lesser than” by hoyo so they think they can get away with shit like this.
@@usernotfound.......1918 Actually, I just want to try to answer Antoni's question (and several other players) who asked why Hoyo designs more characters with light skin. From a simple business pov
All this issues topic rising with skin tone i think we should wait a bit more as well i mean there are probably more characters to be revealed and if they haven’t they might now change the designs, hopefully.. i am hoping the same with areas since first teaser came out
Its kinda ironic that the Pyro Archon is the coolest Archon we have seen thus far. Her design looks so badass; the spectacles, the full leather bodysuit, man... she is so pretty. Definitely will be pulling for Mavuika.
I’m honestly really disappointed and I won’t be pulling on any Natlan banners except for Iansan, and even then I’ll be pulling on whatever non-Natlan banner has her on it. We’ve been so conditioned to crave even the slightest hint of melanin that we’re willing to ignore how whitewashed the characters really are-especially the one based on Olorun, the Yoruba deity! Like wow, that was the nail in the coffin for me. Just look up Olorun + Yoruba and you’ll see what I mean. I used to get Welkin and BP here and there, but no more. Dark & brown people shouldn’t be erased from their own damn cultures.
same, I only like Mualani in the line up, then definitely going for capitano! thank god i have alot of primos saved up, i wont be wasting a dime on this game !
Natlan isnt some wild barbaric land, many NPCs noted before that it is land of graffitti and hot sprinfs, good vacation and i suppose bikers vibe isnt faraway x) also Brazil is famous for latex so not unusual what pyro archon wears❤ Andas for characters, I am disappointex that we dont gave some tall fair build man character. That enemy guy is actually wonderful material of bara character we want playable. I am sad it will be enemy only design which isnt cool anymore that hoyo does that. They better make Capitano playable now as compensation for lack of good tall male characters or we'll rant🎉
I need Venti, Xianyun, Ganyu, Xiao, Mavuika, Xbalanque for my collections 'cause I already have the following that I want: Zhongli - my 1st Archon. Nahida - 1st 5☆ dendro. Raiden - Finally I got her after lost to her from her rerun during Sumeru when I got Qiqi. Nuevillette - my strongest character and 1st solois character. Miko - My 2nd Electro Goddess after getting Raiden my 1st electro Goddess. Qiqi - Immortal since she's Zombie but not part of my collection except c6 but since not yet c6 she's not part of my collections, sorry for Qiqi mains😅😁
NATLAN IS HERE! WHICH MEANS NEW MAP, NEW CHESTS, NEW AREAS TO EXPLORE, MORE CHARACTERS TO MEET AND MOST IMPORTANTLY NEW WAIFUS TO SPEND MY LIFE'S SAVINGS ON.
I believe that the reason why hoyoverse didn’t make the characters’ skin tones darker, is because they are an Asian company and they mostly care to satisfy their Asian audience, which most of them think it’s more beautiful and cute if someone has lighter skin tone. Please don’t start writing hate comments on my comment, because I am fully against what they are doing, but at the end of the day, hoyoverse already made the designs and (unless someone decides to sue them or something) there is nothing we can do about it.
You mean east asians right? Cause majority of asians, those in the southeast, south, and west asia have darker skin. If they cater as you say to these "asian" people, that's a very small subset and not a good argument for hoyo to not properly represent at least the people of the cultures they're profitting from.
@@ClaireLuceat trust me almost all of Asia considers white to be more beautiful even in India Pakistan etc.(not a good thing at all but it is definitely the beauty standard)
@@zawiyar8790 i know, im southeast asian and people here treat calling people "dark" as a joke. But even so, there is so much movement here as well in terms of opening people to love their natural skin colors. There is so much progress compared to before and im 100% sure that even if natlan represents latin-africa, people here are gonna spend money for sure just by seeing charas who look just like them.
Guys the designs are Amazing the lore problably is very imteresting and the map and the musics either, the colour of the skin is a small part, and its a fantasy game, if the creators want to make the characters more white is not our problem
I wish hoyo wasn't afraid of melanin. (Its genuinely disapointment, i mean the archon is meant to be māori inspired.... her design is insane but hoyo has presented to us a white woman.)
Mavuika looks so cool but I think Pyro Archon should have elegant designs especially she's the Goddess of War so for me the outfit doesn't look like warrior but the color of outfit black and red really futs pyro archon but the design I hype it but more like racer than archon but still cool if they made modern design of warrior comparefrom old warrior outfit. But remember the line "are you brave enough to compete?" I'm already excited. I hope the Pvp will have more than 4 characters if they add some new mode😁😁
Honestly all hyv games are pretty colorist, so i wouldn’t say they have a wider variety than genshin Example: hi3, whitewashed a canonical black character, made her mom be the stereotype of black people. She’s the only “dark-skinned” character too. ZZZ: there is a poster for a music album with a stereotypical depiction of a black person. HSR: Arlan is the only darker character in the entire roaster lmao. I looked at his traces names and they’re like “Swift harvest” “Shackle breaker” What the hell? His kit is also not good tbh. The new chara in the teaser they released has the same pattern: white hair “dark skin”, they can’t even design a character Genshin is no better: Xinyan, Dehya, Cyno, Candace and even Sethos all have clunky and bad gameplay at best. Kaeya is honestly the exception, he’s free, his gameplay is simple and useful. And he’s probably gonna be the only one with darker skin to have a good kit. They always make a darker skinned character and make their kit bad. Dehya could’ve been like Tighnari - he’s a standard character but his kit is still good. I was fighting this since sumeru, i’m so done lmao
25:34 Theres literally only one character that have darker skin tone in Honkai Impact, its Carole Pepper. We only have Arlan in HSR. We have Kaeya, Xinyan, & Iansan ( if you don't count tanned skin tone like Dehya, Cyno, Xilonen etc ). What is bro yapping about LoL
Besides the characters being painfully white, the archon design is such a letdown. There's really nothing besides her pupils and the symbols in her hair that signify any relation to Natlan. She looks like a wannabe rockstar more than anything, and that's not really interesting
@@aquxiya yeah, I do wonder if the flames she's speaking to could be proxy messengers of the real archon, maybe Xbalanque (since that's a name I've seen floating around, and very important in Maya culture).
I'm excited I know Twitter is going to go mental tho with blackwashing these new characters and ruining other people's artwork. I hope we get more darker-skinned characters, in that aspect I'm disappointed.
5:39 the fact that the NPC's design caught Ant's attention more than the characters themselves is really saying something about the "out-of-place" Natlan character designs 💀
i HOPE capitino is a very EVIL fatui member and not the fatui of change of hearts that suddenly being friendly, kind and assist our dear traveler of their journey🙏
I wish there was a tiny, chibi sized playable male character!!! 😭 Not Xiao. 🤣🤣 Also we need more male archons!! 😭😭 not just Zhongli! Venti doesn’t count (or does it???)
I don't see a problem with the characters colors. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ They already did sumeru like this. It's just some inspiration from SA for the region nit characters. Before you come at me I'll say I come from India which inspired some of Sumeru and I am a Muslim. I don't mind the character colors. It's just a game snd uts made for Chinese where the revenue is the most. So Hoyo will cater to them rather than the rest of the world
Fun Fact: The Japanese VA of Kinich (The Dendro Guy) is the one who voiced Sasuke The Japanese VA of Ajaw (The 8-bit Dragon with Kinich) is the one who voiced Naruto Another Fun Fact: The Japanese VA of Mavuika (The Pyro Archon) is married to the Japanese VA of Zhongli (The Geo Archon)
Fr, like don’t get me wrong. I’m all for change and their are some changes I want. But I have to remember it’s simply a game, a game I am not being forced to play.
Been waiting to see what they would do for Natlan since 2.0 but shit, ig I expected too much. Don’t get me wrong I love the music and the characters design except for the skin tone cause????why is my culture being used as inspiration on characters that don’t even have my skin tone.
25:30 Liked the video but I dont get you point here tho ? Your saying genshin doesnt have a wider variety of skin tones and has less then their other games but hsr has 1 poc and his skill are named after slavery and zzz has 1 poc and she gets whitewashed alot, genshin atleast tries to add more poc and more frequently
I was more so thinking about Elfy’s design/complexion from ZZZ, but yeah she’s an NPC as well and in terms of playable characters there’s not very many in HYV games in general. Once again though, that’s not really the main point I wanted to make since the discussion isn’t that “HYV needs to add POC to all their games”. It’s that inside Genshin Impact, HYV is taking inspiration from real cultures and countries, but really lacking in representation of the people that belong to them. My point probably wasn’t very clear in the video since that was just my initial reactions, but hope this clarifies a bit!
All i gotta day is that people like yo complain about skintones and its those same people who are later posting their gacha pulls for the same exact characters they were bashing ang demanding s recoloring of...ive seen many people close to me and on social media who were high levels mad about the sumeru characters and ranted about them, but as soon as those same characters came out, they were thr first people to pull, so i just see hypocrisy because if youre dedicating yourself to demand more skin variety and still pull for them its like you dont actually care! So yea, thats my stance
Making content and videos about Genshin Impact is my job, so demanding that I stop doing so is essentially telling me to quit my job. While diversity in this game is something I think is important and want to voice my opinions on, I think telling anyone to quit their job and lose their source of income, stability, and livelihood over this is pretty unreasonable. For those who don't create content or depend on this game for a living, I also don't see why they can't still play this game and pull for the characters they want to. At the end of the day we all play this game because we love it, but it's for that reason too that people want to be vocal about their opinions and wish to see improvement. I think there are more ways to contribute towards a cause than by simply boycotting, but that's just my opinion. If your way of expressing your opinion is by doing so then by all means do that, but to turn towards others and demand they do the same is energy wasted in the wrong directions.
@@antventure yea but many CC ATM are calling for a boycott, to not spend a single cent on genshin and on any hoyoverse game because that's the way to show them we want change! And many non CC are also calling for this movement. But how am I suppose to feel when later on when Natlan comes out, the same people calling for a boycott and to stop spending money go ahead and swipe their cards and whale for the same characters they were offended by and that demanded a change of... It makes me think that their stance was based upon hypocrisy and performative activism... I bet my entire life savings that many CC and Non CC will still pull for the Natlan characters once they find out that they're either Meta or have an interesting backstory or whatever may be the case... Never did I say don't play the game because it's essentially just a fun pastime for a lot of us, but when many people of influence within the community and fambase come out saying that this is bad but later make a complete 180 on their stance, what do you think we as fans and viewers think? As a Latina, I'm proud my culture is being shown and I wish they did have more skin variety, but when people dunk and hate but secretly have their fingers crossed, it sucks because it feels performative and simply a way to get more people on your side (and in no way am I claiming you are doing so)
I get where you're coming from, but I think the biggest thing in this case is separating those who are calling for such actions like a boycott versus those who are simply speaking their opinions about the game. A boycott can be a great way to send a message, but if people are specifically saying they will boycott and then turning around and doing the opposite, then that is indeed hypocritical and doesn't reflect well upon their original words and actions. On the flip-side, not everyone has to participate in a boycott and that's perfectly fine. Like I mentioned above, people can state their thoughts and express the desire for a game to improve, but that doesn't mean they're calling for or stating that they will participate in a boycott. Once again I totally understand your point of view and where you're coming from, but my discussion in the video/here in the comments isn't about boycotting the game, it's about understanding the importance of proper cultural/regional representation in a game like Genshin Impact. Hope this clarifies some things!
Not everyone likes to boycott to try to convey a message, Just because you don’t pull doesn’t mean they will change the type of characters they are putting out. If you want the company to change, you need to ask them yourself. And if the company doesn’t change then simply go to another game. At the end of the day Genshin Imoact is simply a game, a game made for entertainment of the people who want to play it. No one is forcing you to play it. Although I am all for change and want to see changes in the game, it is not my game and I don’t need to play.
RIP Iansan, girl has .5 seconds of screentime and got hit by a ball, no lines whatsoever, theyre abt to give her the worst kit imaginable just cuz she's the darkest in the cast
As a person from Latin America (Argentina - i am brown), and how HYS works, I love the designs. And what many do not understand is that the characters do not represent the cultures, just like the nation. HYS is inspired by these cultures to create his nation, and give references from them to his character, the characters "INHERIT" the culture "DON'T REPRESENT". And other excuses I read are that “they were based on African culture blabla”… NO… Natlan is based on ancient cultures such as Mejicas (not Mexican, aka Aztecs), Mayan, SOME African and Mesopotamian, the most influential. of all of them: the Mejicas and/or the Mayan culture. They want all the characters to be black while the majority are tan and/or brown. And the worst of all, that several names of this culture on which they want us to believe that HYS was based, did not even have a body or form...and they take the "fan arts" as if they were the true representation. . (Olorun and mahuika had no figure to represent it, and had illustrations that "believed" it looked like this). At the end of the day, this is a game of FANTASY and FICTION. Skin tone does not define your culture, and if you highlight it I think you are doing what you criticize so much.
Ive seen a lot of complaint online about the skin colour of characters and how the dark skinned regions are not represented properly but in my opinion there should’nt be any issue with lack of dark skinned character since its a fantasy game and eventhough they have taken inspirations from real life regions ,teyvat doesn’t necessarily follows the laws of the real world so its not given that the people who lives near the equator to have darker skin (dont forget that even the sun in teyvat could be fake based on theories and foreshadowings) and i feel like they have represented people of colour properly where it does matter that is in real life when it comes to VA selection, genshin have VAs belonging to almost all the ethnicities and i personally feel like that representation is what truly matters not the representation in a fantasy world (Also given how people who have the same element seems to have similar skin tone hoyo could be going for a tribal racism storyline i know its unlikely since its a chinese game but from the trailer there is a small chance it mighy happen) these are strictly my personal opinions and views and having different views is perfectly fine
I’m sorry but i TOTALLY DISAGREE with you. They shouldn’t take inspiration from OUR culture if they can’t represent it well :/ But the main issue here is the fact that they’re completly disrespectful towards it . For instance, Ororon is inspired of a nigerian deity named Olorun. However, they proceeded to whitewash him despite that fact. And it’s not the first time they does that since it happened a lot in Sumeru..
my brother in christ... that's the shittiest take. people of color shouldn't have to exist in fictional media? do you even HEAR yourself???? can you say that out loud and honestly not find anything wrong with it, at all? humanity is cooked
first and foremost, tan/dark-skinned people are not exclusive to non-fantasy genres. secondly, you can be born with melanin, you do not need the sun to have tan/darker skin. thirdly, if you’re gonna take inspiration from cultures, RESPECT THE PEOPLE. it is literally not that hard to give characters tan/darker skin. in fact, it’s the least you can do. there is quite literally no excuse for this colorism.

U just don't want to say it. i personally think Genshin had more dark skinned char than other anime games shore they are not completely black but they have the NPC's & multiple Playable Char with dark skin tone. AND there is no way they are going to make all playable natalan char dark skined. At the end of the day it is a FICTIONAL WIFU COLLECTING CN ANIME GATCHA GAME what are u expecting.
BRO i have an idea just put a poll in your comunity asking what skin colour do u prefer (LIGHT/DARK) I dont think we will get clear answer if they bot it but i kind of want to know
You're completely missing the point of my response. Nowhere in the video or any of my responses did I say anything about "making all playable Natlan characters dark skinned" or even about the "total number of dark skinned" characters in Genshin Impact. It's about the fact that this region pulls inspiration from real life cultures, and because of that, I think it's fair that there should be a wider range of diversity in skin tone to properly reflect what the people from the countries/regions/cultures that HYV is taking inspiration from look like. Whether you agree with me on that opinion or not doesn't really matter, but let's not just completely sidestep the response to your initial question and turn it into something completely different. As for your last sentence, here's more of an in-depth response as to why I'd have to disagree with you. (TL;DR you can’t properly pay homage/take inspiration by just picking and choosing certain parts of different cultures, but leaving out the most important aspect being the people) For me, the biggest red flag that arises with this situation is that while this is a fictional game, Genshin impact takes inspiration from different cultures/regions in our real world. This was a choice that had to be mutually reached by all parties and teams involved in creating this game, and for that reason I can't imagine that the reason behind it is something that can be so easily explained as "it's a fictional Waifu Collecting CN Gacha Game". I'm 99% sure they're also well aware of community sentiment, so for that reason like I said in the video, I would just love to understand more of the creative direction process behind the scenes at HoYoverse and why it is that they went with this route.
My overall thoughts summarized from this video! (this is probably gonna be long sorry)

3) Skins are fire. I love the Kirara skins design, too bad I don't use her LOL
4) Natlan shows promise and a lot of characters look dope, but the lack of range in skin tone once again raises questions. Don't get me wrong, I'm honestly super excited for this region and can't wait to learn more about it/the characters (the Capitano reveal was crazy), but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed and confused with the choice of color palette for the overall range of these skin tones. (TL;DR you can’t properly pay homage/take inspiration by just picking and choosing certain parts of different cultures, but leaving out the most important aspect being the people)
It might’ve been hard to follow along in the video since this was just off the top of my head and my initial reaction, but I think the biggest red flag that arises with this situation is that while this is a fictional game, Genshin impact takes inspiration from different cultures/regions in our real world.

I think the region looks nice. Archon is a bit iffy but I'll get used to it. I wouldnt mind if they just darken the skin tone, even a little bit. (also now theres drama with one guy whose based on a god(unsure?) so thats a thing now. Hope they make tweaks before the region comes out.)

As a poc i alr knew we werent getting any proper representation, but i also know that its down to more than just simply "colourism" or "racism". nah i wish the pyro sovereign would wield blue flame it's more fitting

The only reason is its for business, ig. Hoyo definitely has a capable research team. And what they produce is definitely the result of the research they conducted. Many players say that they want characters with darker skin tones, but maybe the results of their research say that characters with light skin tones are more desirable, so
Many players ≠ majority. 60% of their revenue come China, Japan and Korea in which lite skin are generally preferable.
It's crazy though because they don't even give them a chance to be on the same level as some other characters(dehya etc)
yeah if they wanna keep they’re lightskin agenda they are perfectly within their rights to- so long as they don’t use real world cultural inspiration that belongs to people of mixed skin tones and races to profit. it is egregious for genshin to warp the gospel and culture of real gods and indigenous people into an aesthetic they deem profitable in the same way it would be holy inappropriate to take jesus christ and implement have as a 8 ft tall nonchalant dreadhead in a game. the difference is one would never be tolerated while the other is seen as “lesser than” by hoyo so they think they can get away with shit like this.

We are getting Natlan soon and Ant not black yet. 😢
Not everything is Black, you don't see brown skin people much in Sumeru
Honestly all hyv games are pretty colorist, so i wouldn’t say they have a wider variety than genshin
Example: hi3, whitewashed a canonical black character, made her mom be the stereotype of black people.
The new chara in the teaser they released has the same pattern: white hair “dark skin”, they can’t even design a character
Genshin is no better: Xinyan, Dehya, Cyno, Candace and even Sethos all have clunky and bad gameplay at best.

Liked the video but I dont get you point here tho ?
I Feel there is nothing special things for natalan... And 4.8........
Tbh hoyo flopped with this one
Ive seen a lot of complaint online about the skin colour of characters and how the dark skinned regions are not represented properly but in my opinion there should’nt be any issue with lack of dark skinned character since its a fantasy game and eventhough they have taken inspirations from real life regions ,teyvat doesn’t necessarily follows the laws of the real world so its not given that the people who lives near the equator to have darker skin (dont forget that even the sun in teyvat could be fake based on theories and foreshadowings) and i feel like they have represented people of colour properly where it does matter that is in real life when it comes to VA selection, genshin have VAs belonging to almost all the ethnicities and i personally feel like that representation is what truly matters not the representation in a fantasy world
(Also given how people who have the same element seems to have similar skin tone hoyo could be going for a tribal racism storyline i know its unlikely since its a chinese game but from the trailer there is a small chance it mighy happen)
these are strictly my personal opinions and views and having different views is perfectly fine
Ahemm natlan based on SOUTH AMERICA so dont expect more about skin colors there is many countries in SOUTH AMERICA FYI there is brazil, Argentina etc.
@@johnbertontong5556 Not exclusively south america though natlan is based on south and central americas , pacific island countries in oceania ,australia and hawaii as well
i am not trying to be rude but what other hoyovers games have darkskin char ?
HSR 0
ZZZ 0
HI3 0 (i think)
What else?
replied to another comment abt this but here's the copy paste:
I was more so thinking about Elfy’s design/complexion from ZZZ, but yeah she’s an NPC as well and in terms of playable characters there’s not very many in HYV games in general.
Once again though, that’s not really the main point I wanted to make since the discussion isn’t that “HYV needs to add POC to all their games”. It’s that inside Genshin Impact, HYV is taking inspiration from real cultures and countries, but really lacking in representation of the people that belong to them.
My point probably wasn’t very clear in the video since that was just my initial reactions, but hope this clarifies a bit!
@@antventure i think u know why they made the char the way they did.
(TL;DR you can’t properly pay homage/take inspiration by just picking and choosing certain parts of different cultures, but leaving out the most important aspect being the people)
For me, the biggest red flag that arises with this situation is that while this is a fictional game, Genshin impact takes inspiration from different cultures/regions in our real world.
