Am I the only one who's remined of that Aztec ballgame by this trailer? You know the one where the loosing team was sacrificed?
This would explain why every characte just keep passing on that ball, just like taking part of the tournament. And this also explains why the pyro archon asks Capitano if h's brave enough to compete, implying the loser looses more than just the match. Plus we have the line from the Teyvat chapter overwiev "the victors shall burn bright, the looser will turn to ash"

It has been heavily implied through lore crumbs that Natlan is a nation of war due to the tribes fighting over the Gnosis. The pyro gemstone has teased that "only victors take it all, and the defeated burn to ashes" so this tournament is an annual thing. Capitano is participating specifically to get the Gnosis.
The fact that she talked about their Fate so much at the end had me thinking one way or another they'll be free of the Gnosis by the end, I mean obviously because the Fatui WILL get that Gnosis but it could also end up being a Focalors case where the Authority is freed (with the Fatui seeming to only care about the pieces of the 3rd Descender and not actually the power itself) and maybe split equally between the tribes so there no longer needs to be a bunch of "wars" which seem to have already become a Tournament/Games. Since Natlan's theme was named Resurrection and the Region seems to be in the midst of modernization it seems like the Wars and Archon Title could be a tradition they or just her plan to end.
I don't think they fight for the gnosis. It sounds to me more like they are given a chance to ask for what they wish for. I doubt she just passes the gnosis around every year like a trophy.
@@yourigevers9776 iirc it's been stated there's been Multiple Pyro Archon since they were first chosen, guess I probably should've specified that for anyone unaware.
(I don't remember where in-game, but I know in the manga Venti directly says it's a different Archon from the first, and the manga takes place further back as well.)
So it's not that She is passing around the Gnosis, it's that she's just the latest holder (we don't know the period of time between these wars) and passes it down to the next when the time comes.
@@yourigevers9776 Perhaps not the Gnosis itself. I think it may be an Oratrice situation again wherein the Gnosis is in the Primal Fire where Xbalanque is entombed. The concept of the Archons that are not part of the original seven seems to reflect each other, starting from Ei and Makoto. So maybe the Pyro Gnosis can gift a special power to the champion since Mavuika did say "champion takes all"

She looks very interesting. Especially with how weirdly modern her outfit is. She kinda looks like Himeko, Fu hua’s fire forms, and Hi3rd Shakespeare blended together. She looks cool tho and her personality seems very fitting for someone who wields fire

I'm excited for Natlan. What few NPCs have talked about the nation have said it has strong tourism and trade, the citizens love street graffiti and fashion. So we've been told for a long while it's not quite war torn.
RPGs have taught me the more colorful and whimsy looking, the darker the story.

It really surprised me when a lot of players said “why is the land not ashy and dead since It is region of war??” And they assume that only that type of war exists or they assume people don’t still try to live life in war… idk I really like that so far genshin isn’t being superficial with this story concept.
Genshin was always one for the bright and flashy colors so thinking that Natlan would suddenly change that style by being all dark is kinda funny😂
Mahuika is apparently based on a Maori (NZ) fire deity, so it seems like the theory about Natlan being themed after countries around the ring of fire was correct
We've known for ages now that Natlan is mostly based off of Central/Southern America with a bit of West African influence. Natlan itself is based off of Nahuatl which is Aztec. Oloron & Iansan are west African (though Iansan also has influence from certain Brazilian tribes' folklore), Chasca is Salvadoran, Citlali and Xilonen are Aztec, Kachina is Puebloan, and Kinich and Xbalanque are Mayan. Mualani comes from Hawaii.
Unfinished Reverie, the Talking Stick, and just the names Iansan & Xbalanque already made this incredibly obvious well before this trailer came out.

The summer event is definitely foreshadows the story: The main emphasis seems to be on the fact that when things burn away they lose their color, leaving behind grey ash.
In the summer event we will need to restore color to a grey (ashen colored) world.
There is a scene before Capitano at 4:49 where a few things happen :
-A fire sweeps across the screen
-Time stops
-Things start to lose color and turn into grey
For the longest time, the only thing we knew about Natlan was a location called Mare Jivari which is a place that is described as "a sea of ashes where the wind does not blow". The Wind is associated with time in Genshin (see Venti lore and his connection to time manipulation) and so this is probably signifies the importance of these themes: death, burning to ash, time stop(?), discoloration, ash and (maybe) rebirth via re-coloration / re-ignition.

I noticed that when Kinich catches the ball, there's a bit of a green pixel effect from the impact. Ajaw is definitely connected to him, but I wonder why they chose such a modern look for his abilities.

3:35 I know! It’s weird that almost every other character gets a featured lil snippet, but Iansan gets the most blink and you’ll miss it moment. Not to mention they’re the darkest skin color of the entire new roster…

@@Jackson-ub1uv Lyney and Lynette were featured quite a bit in the Fontaine teaser and we’ve known their designs from the beginning. Either Iansan will be secretly more important than she appears or they really want to sweep her under the rug. I’m hoping it’s the former, but wouldn’t be surprised by the latter.

So I've seen several reactions to the teaser and I'm a little baffled I have yet to find anyone mentioning one major thing: "Who is she (the archon, Mavuika) talking to, is it us?" I think it's actually obvious.. she's speaking directly to Xbalanque, aka the Pyro Dragon Sovereign! In fact, I believe I've got the main plot of Natlan actually figured out, tbh.. buckle up -
Mavuika says to the "viewer" things like "What we see ought to be our fate, but for now close your eyes and feel.. for with our blood we will forge our fate" while she's shown facing six flames, each flame with the symbol of one of the Vishap/Dragon Tribes of Natlan in them. The significance of the Vishap tribe flames is obvious, but what she says about "blood" and "fate" is related to the ball that they pass around in the trailer; as in ancient Aztec culture they would hold RITUAL WARFARE in the form of a sport similar to modern basketball, and the losing tribe's team would be executed and their blood sacrificed to the Gods..
Now keep in mind that in the Tevat Chapter Storyline trailer, Chapter 5 is called "The Incandescent Ode of Resurrection"; Incandescent meaning 'Bright Heat' & Ode meaning 'Story of'. Also, in Neuvellette's description of them Xbalanque is referred to as "One Entombed With the Primal (Primordial) Fire".. Now I won't go deep into the real world lore of Xbalanque but with it in mind and counting all of what I've said together, here's my plot guess -
Mavuika is holding the Wargame Tournament centered around the ballgame in order to gather the blood (or whatever similar sacrifice medium is needed) of strong warriors and use it to bring Xbalanque back to life. I believe that the Fatui have knowledge of ways to revive the dead to some degree based on what we've seen, so they send Capitano as he is their strongest and thus can contribute the most to the sacrifice method as he's so good at combat, and also as a show of good faith to ensure Mavuika hands over the Gnosis after the Sovereign is resurrected.. as to why the Archon wants to revive the Sovereign though, I can't say, especially since we know NOTHING about her or her past that we could use to gauge her motives sadly

As we know, Bennett is from Natlan and if you compare the ornamentation on his outfit to Iansan's they are rather similar. Not to mention that for the brief moment they're on screen, what happens to Iansan? They get hit in the head with the ball.. sound familiar?

i am not sure about xbalanque being the pyro sovereign cause when he introduced neuvillette in his drip marketing he refers to sovereigns as "They" instead of we if he was a part of them. He might be one of the ancient beings who has knowledge of old teyvat or related to celestia
I can relate. I was genuinely about to go to bed when the trailer dropped and then just watched it.
I guess the inspiration of the outfits of Natlan characters incorporated elements from Sport outfits. The visor, the bandana, the leather jumpsuit, etc. I guess Natlan is not literally a nation at war but are battling for a tournament.
As an ecuadorian, I cannot help but have mixed feelings about the characters. They’re pretty, but they could’ve been represented way better than this.
Mualani is the only taned character... everyone else is white, and there is no actual colour 😔
Fun fact Mavuika and Zhonglis JP VA's are married irl. So finally we can have the mom and dad of the archon group xD
i like the fact that a lot of the clothing for the characters is more modern since most of the regions leaned more into the past of the cultural styling’s and for that reason our pyro archon doesn’t feel as out of place to me. i will say i’m dissapointed we only have 2/3 characters with slightly darker skin tones i was hoping for a bit more variety across the board. though this can’t be our entire roster because only 10 were shown and we get about 17 every region so im still holding out a bit of hope
I don't like the fact they're wearing more modern clothes at all. Fontaine already was more modern, and I was fine with it, but this is honestly a bit too far. Some of them literally look like they could be in ZZZ.
It doesn’t really make sense to have modern clothes, especially with what the archon? Is wearing.. it doesn’t match the nation at all and she’s meant to represent the place.. 😭
@@KingOfGaymes Just because Natlan is based on the tribal aesthetics of Mesoamerica, Africa, and Polynesia doesn't mean that they have to be primitive. Urban streetwear being mixed in seems fine, especially with how non-traditional and fantasy-like some characters in the other nations look like.
It seems they’re going for tribal sweetwear, which I’m all for, but only like 3 characters are a tiny bit darker and it’s not even by much :(( It’s like depicting Chinese people with entirely White or Black people

I think she's not the Pyro Archon. Maybe she's the Pyro Archon's servant like Yae miko. And the scene before Capitano, the bird transformed into human maybe she's the Phoenix Bird.

I've got to be honest, I think this was pretty mid. A lot of the designs feel out of place for Genshin, especially the Archon(?). I also wanted the "Nation of war" not to be about a... sports tournament arc? Huh? A video showing off the new region's characters shouldn't leave me with still only wanting Capitano, right?
Also, living in a region like that with the sun shining 24/7 even my white ass would have tanner skin than those mfs, lmao.

@2:43- Actually, Alejandro, I think she's a Jaguar, but I could be wrong too. I am just basing this on what I know about Large cats. I looked at the spots on her tail, they look more like Jaguar spots, plus they are found in Trees more. Most of Natlan is inspired by Mesoamerica, and jaguars are from that area. Like I said I could be wrong. After all, it's easy to confuse Leopards and Jaguars.

My opinion on Mavuika's design is that it is great! But... not really for Genshin, it feels way too out of place for me even with the speculation Natlan is actually going to be a racing tournament. It feels like it'd be way more at home in Honkai: Star Rail or ZZZ with Everflame Mansion or Sons of Calydon. I feel like its a situation where I would've prefer the Conquistador / Bull-Fighter outfit concept art that leaked awhile ago to have gotten into the game to more fit in with the general outfit design of Genshin, it just feels too "modern" in comparison to everyone else's older style of outfits from our own history as inspiration. It feels like an Emile situation except there wasn't like twenty concept art designs that leaked that let everyone pick their favorite out of them and say "wish we got this instead".
I will still be rolling for her, if they don't pull a Signora on her, but I will be looking forward to perhaps a skin that makes her fit in more in Genshin's world, whether that be officially or not.
Mauvika could be a name the people of Natlan know their Archon by, like Rex Lapis of Liyue, Raiden Shogun of Inazuma and Lesser Lord Kusanali of Sumeru.
i really REALLY hope capitano is playable and he looks Like That. and by that i mean faceless and in cool armour
Chances are, she's not the pyro archon. The reason being in Mesoamerican mythos, Quetzalcoatl, the serpent phoenix god was white and adorned in red and the god of sky, wind, and wisdom. Their brother, Huitzilopochtli was the god of war and was depicted as blue, which I believe are the fragments of blue flame in the inner sanctum that the phoenix is trying to resurrect.

Also very much appreciate him calling out that a) the character that seems to be the pyro archon, while she has a cool design, doesn't seem to fit in with Genshin or the rest of Natlan's design aesthetic. It would be cool and maybe fit more into ZZZ for instance as it feels more modern. Plus her wearing all this black leather in the hottest region in Teyvat makes me feel uncomfy at the idea of the heat. 😅 But maybe it's a power move that the archon can withstand such heat idk. 😅
Alsoo b) that Cyyu called out that the first Natlan character that we've had teased from the start was given a blink and you miss it moment in this trailer and no line of dialogue. She gets hit with the ball, makes a noise and is gone in the matter of a couple frames.
If all the other playable characters had melanin, this wouldn't matter as much, but the fact that the only design that has a somewhat brown/darker skin tone than paper white is practically hidden in this trailer feels very disappointing to me. I like others have been looking forward to seeing Iansan, were disappointed Iansan wasn't in the first character teaser from the 4.8 livestream, but seeing how Iansan was barely featured in this teaser despite being in the Teyvatt Teaser feels really bad.

It's kind of funny to me that the smallest and simultaneously loudest character has the name "Ajaw," which is "king/ruler" in at least one Mayan dialect. We'll find out if it's their real name or one they chose (given the whole "self-proclaimed" thing).
The thing is, Kinich and Ajaw are a reference to one and the same God, Kinich Ahau (different spelling of Ajaw) split into 2 characters in genshin (though gameplay wise Ajaw is probably part of Kinich's kit)

I believe the tournament is going to decide the new Pyro Archon.
I must to say that Pyro Archon may be heavily inspired by Hi3rd Himeko Murata or GI Murata, but she isn't a variant of Himeko (slightly different appearance, different VAs, different name...)
Maybe past Archon was Murata, but we will discover it later...
