I was at this game . We had driven down from a small town in southern Wisconsin for a 50th wedding anniversary to St Louis where my grandparents lived , and some relatives had tickets . I was only 10 years old , but remember it pretty well . It was played on a Monday night ( why , no idea ) , and my Packers won . Still a Packer fan to this day .
If these teams had been together in the same division, it basically would have reflected the rivalry between Milwaukee and St. Louis in beer production
The Packers in those days played man to man coverage almost exclusively, so when they did get burned, it was pretty brutal. Adderley was still one of the best of his era.
Pro Football Hall of Fame members. St. Louis Cardinals: Jackie Smith, Larry Wilson. Green Bay Packers: Vince Lombardi, Herb Adderly, Bart Starr, Willie Davis, Forrest Gregg, Ray Nitschke, Willie Wood, Leroy Jordon, Jerry Kramer.
There WERE a select amount of prime time regular season games prior to when Monday Night Football started (on ABC in 1970). From what i read, the networks only aired them to the audiences of the participating team's respective markets (not national coverage).
Yeah, even after the KO return the Cards were only down a point. They drove into Packer territory, but Jim Bakken (who hit 69% of his FG attempts that year) just missed wide. Bart Starr drove the Packers 80 yards and hit Boyd Dowler for an insurance score with about two minutes remaining.
Fan support was never an issue with St. Louis NFL football. St. Louis city and St. Louis County fought over the location of a new stadium for bill Bidwell resulting in no stadium. Bidwell thought Arizona was building him a new stadium but it took 18 years. St. Louis does approve a new stadium for the Rams. Stan Kroenke despite being from mid Missouri named after Stan Musial with a middle name after Enos Slaughter of the Cardinals moves to L.A. to multiply his portfolio value. I really liked this Packers team despite being from St. Louis following the Cardinals. I attended a summer training camp with my mom and dad after their second super bowl win at Lambeau and saw their Packers museum. I am now a fan of the Packers.
The Packer dynasty of the 60s was fading at this point and even had the worst regular season record of any of the 4 playoff teams I want to say but always found a way to win!
Yeah, but they also wrapped up the division early at 9-2-1. They then lost on the road to an LA Ram team they would soon face in the playoffs, on a last-minute blocked punt. A week later they dropped a meaningless game to Pittsburg. They then blew out LA in the playoffs 28-7. Net, though aging, this team was better than its record. Starr was injured much of the year, as were most of their running backs. But the D was still something special. When the offense got a bit healthier late in the year, they were a strong team.
Always loved the music!
Would watch this video 100 more times instead of any game in todays NFL.
Great narration script and music.

I wonder if that was the first Monday night game ever, and the NFL was testing the ratings they would get.
look at all that mud and dirt......love it
The "Road Runner" is great to watch again.
A typical brutal ending for the Big Red of the 60's. Jim Hart even then showed flashes of greatness.
Hart took the job from Johnson due to Charley's military obligations in 67. They would have a QB controversy in St. Louis in the upcoming years
If these teams had been together in the same division, it basically would have reflected the rivalry between Milwaukee and St. Louis in beer production
And the rivalry in beer consumption.
special teams. the single greatest KOR year ever. 41 yards a return. the Roadrunner
Excellent and brief..
Adderley was smoked 2xs for tds..wow
Receivers know where their going on passing plays and defensive backs pray their going the right direction on bad playing surfaces
The Packers in those days played man to man coverage almost exclusively, so when they did get burned, it was pretty brutal. Adderley was still one of the best of his era.
Interesting blitz pick up by Jackie Smith 2:17

Wow, Adderly burned twice in the same game!
That probably only happened once DetTiger. I was shocked at that too.
Dave williams..
The receivers who run great routes will always have the advantage on terrible playing surfaces
Wow, one winsome lass at :07-0:20.
2 nd straight year the Cardinals played on the last Monday in October ( Year before 24-17 win over the Bears which was Halloween)
Some great players in this game. Jim Hart was always a standout, even on mediocre teams.
Jay Randolph, the original TV voice of the Florida Marlins. His partner was the late Gary Carter...
CBS's venture at Monday Night Football.

CBS & NBC were both offered the MNF package by the NFL in 1970 & both networks turned them down. This opened the door for ABC, & the rest was history.
I was at that game

The Packers added another touchdown and won the game 31-23, according to Football Reference.

Shame that St Louis has lost the Cardinals and Rams.
It took something special from the Packers to beat a worthy opponent. Only a champion would have beat St. Louis that night.
The Packers added another touchdown and won the game 31-23.
So even back then the Cards would implode on special teams.
Well, at least the good guys won in the end.

Travis Williams had his glory in 1967 but ended up a tragic figure - homeless, broke, and dead at age 45.
Travis had a great year in 1967...but his life after football just breaks ur heart...
Greatest season ever by a kick returner

Go Cards!
If the Cardinals win a Super Bowl, good enough.
This closeup video is awful.
It was 1967. What do you want, 4K?
