Green Bay vs. Carolina "NFC Title In The Frozen Tundra" (1996 NFC Championship) GB's GG

- Brett Favre, Dorsey Levens and a stout Packers defense powers Green Bay to it's first Super Bowl appearance in 29 years in the frozen tundra conditions at Lambeau Field
The Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars making title games in their 2 nd season are great stories
thank you for being the only person in this thread to point that out, though this is the Packers best season so I know they don't owe it to us to give credit but to be up against a great team as GB my Panthers still xame to the Frozen Tundra and those we still got crushed us being in only our second season did more than we were predicted to do in icey weather at that.
Imagine if they both made the Super Bowl lol I called it the Cat Bowl and some over zealous guy on here was like ohhh it would have been the expansion bowl, not the cat bowl 😂😂😂😂😂
@@benjibarrett8347 I'm guessing the Panthers running game was stuffed 'cause I saw a lot of Kerry Collins. He looked good tho
Will there ever be another duo like Summerall and Madden? Damn, they could call games like no other. Miss you guys.
Me too they are the best ever to me
The nostalgia! I couldn't picture myself being a fan of another team! It's been go pack 💛 💚 since 95
Because of the 1996 Green Bay Packers I love football. I've lived in Wisconsin for 21 years and I remember this team very well
This was such an awesome game...one of Dorsey's best! Their whole playoff run that year was awesome to watch
The ‘96 Packers may have been the best Packer team ever. Literally no flaws with the team whatsoever. #1 offense, #1 defense, and best kickoff and punt returner.
Arguably one of the best NFL teams period.
@@michaelfischer3823 yall can't be serious
John madden and pat summrall always a classic to watch and listen to really appreciate you guys thanks for the memories take care. Joe
A title game without Dallas or San Francisco
It was wonderful
At 2:06 when Dorsey catches it in the endzone, the crowd went dead silent for a second, then roared!!!!
Lance Carley
I still remember that catch
@@kenzeier2943 me too! I still get goosebumps when I hear and see it!
Got chills watching this. I’m a young Packers fan and it amazes me just the amount of history this team has #GoPackGo
Sebastian Diego right! I was thinking the same thing. The rivalry with Cowboys and 9ers, as well as those 3 historic MVP seasons by Favre. Man this team could’ve been a dynasty from 93-97. If it weren’t for those Cowboys we could’ve possibly won 5 straight Super Bowls 😳
Best Packer team to date.
I'm a 31 year old and a Panthers Fan and I still get a weird happy feeling watching this game because my uncle have a fond memory of us all just getting together just because to watch Football and this the game that apparently told some of my Family members that I was gonna be GB or Carolina Panthers Fan, here I am a Panthers and though we lost I Love this game because to the rest of the Football world we were never supposed to make this far in only our 2nd year.
Man listen.....
A snowy NFC championship game at Lambeau field like the 2007 divisional vs Seattle would be awesome
This not being the last time they won the NFC Championship at Lambeau would be better
I went to the Super Bowl in N.O. Great game. Pats made a run but too much Dez and Reg.
Peter Kay
Yeah that was a good one.
Bledsoe was knocked around by Mr White
Depite the loss it was one of the best long weekends of my life. Packers fans were pretty cool too. Not a lot of nonsense. And of course - the Super Bowl should be in New Orleans every year. Best city for it by far.
The crowds eruption after that Dorsey Levens catch. Wow!
This game was magical. Still puts a smile on my face everytime I watch these highlights. Just like Favre said this game meant more than the Superbowl, it really felt that way. This one was special.
2:06 omg that roar!
Nothing like Madden and Summerall 😭😭😭. Is there anyone in todays game even close? The feeling of listening to these guys call a game was incredible. They just made the game so much more fun to watch
I know the current 2021-22 Packers are arguably 1 of the best teams in the league right now. And have a chance to go to & win the Super Bowl & I'm a fan & wish them all the success. But I was in my mid 30's when this Packer - mid- 90's team was doing so well. For whatever reason I am still more emotionally attatched & excited about this mid- 90's team. I agree that this team with Favre, Reggie White, Andre Rison, Edgar Bennet, Dorsey Levens, Gilbert Brown, Antonio Freeman, Don Bebe, & a cast of all- stars was 1 of the strongest, truest, pure teams that ever existed in the NFL
This aged like sour milk lmao
This Packers team was elite. Literally no flaws.
Now, I will agree they were very good. Didn't they lose 3 games?
@@justinyoung8062 The 2007 patriots lost the Super Bowl what’s your point
Awesome! Will never forget this moment!
The Pack did Risen dirty. That guy had some off the field issues in his career, but when he hit the field in GB I believe he was ready to be great. I live in Wisconsin, I’ve been a packer fan my entire life, and he had that first TD in the Super Bowl you could tell. They did Desmond Howard dirty too.
Rison yes. Howard got a big contract from the Raiders that the Packers couldn't afford
Ya howard and larry brown the raiders and super bowl mvps lol
I love the crowd singing along with the song We are the champions by Queen.
Lets win today!
Kudos to the Carolina Panthers going all the way to the NFC Championship their 2nd year. They were definitely the 2nd best team in the NFL that year.

Not shown, but in the final minutes fans like myself teared up when as they ran the 'Lombard Sweep' three times in a row. Homage to the God's.
Watching this just reminds me of how physical football used to be. Go pack go
It still is dude
Just watch the Ravens and the Bills play
@@loudini2695 It's still physical and somewhat dangerous but back then the game was all about the big hit and collisions. I'm glad modern players are able to stay healthier now but it ain't the same game as before
@@loudini2695 too many flags. It’s a girls sport now.
Loved listening to Madden and Summerall.
Panthers fan from the start. Remember this game. I was a kid and was devastated the Panthers lost.
Here's a weird fact, this was the very first time the Packers played the Panthers. How many teams can have the distinction that they played their first game against a team in the Conference Championship game
1970 Colts played the Bengals and Raiders in the playoffs, never played either one before
Dorsey Levens is one of the most underrated RBs in NFL history
This was the year Howard won Super Bowl MVP on special teams!
Wow ! The memories!!!!
As a Patriots fan, I knew as soon as GB won that even if we beat Jacksonville that evening, it was extremely unlikely we were going to win the SB. Throw in all the drama with Parcells negotiating with the Jets and the lack of special teams preparation and we were completely doomed.
Good memories
wouldve been a much more interesting story had both carolina and jacksonville won both title games and met in sb 31 both being 2nd year teams to make history as the fastest sb champion.
That look at 2:10 is Favre all the way. Always how ill remember him playing.
bring back these memories!!!
1996 to 1999 was interesting for the Nfl the Cowboys dynasty collapsed then…
Packers win 1996
Denver win back to back 97-

The Greatest show on turf 1999
This was the closest Dom Capers came to a Super Bowl as head coach. He would finally get his first Super Bowl ring 14 years later...as the DC of the Green Bay Packers.
Bears fan here. I think it's quite unfortunate that the Packers didn't win more Super Bowls with ace QB Brett Favre. And now it's possible that the Packers may not win another Super Bowl with QB Aaron Rodgers.

I say that "96" Carolina defense might have been better than the 2015 defense. They didn't play well this game because it was cold as sh#$@!
This is such a different game. So much harder hitting.

Can you try to get the Packers-Bronco game from 07? The walk off TD in OT from Favre to Jennings?

Two lucky breaks for the Packers in the playoffs: 1) The Panthers upset The Cowboys 2) The Jaguars upset The Broncos.
Packers were better on offense alot more in 1996 with rison
@@packersauburneric3625 Rison may have saved their season, after a rash of WR injuries by week 13.
Collins saw space well.
Madden an summerall could make the most unimportant game seem great. Never gonna be announcing like them again.
Great game
i think it sad you can't find this game in full game only cuz its panthers. if this was packer's vs 49ers or cowboys you can find full games pretty much anywhere. it like NFL never recorded this game if they did NFL deleted it lol

Tropical compared to the Oakland wild card vs division winners and odds on favorite to make it to the super bowl Cleveland Browns 1980 (qb mike sipe nfl mvp that year) at cleveland stadium on lake erie . It was -40 below zero, wind chill even worse about -60 below . the ball was like ice , hardly anyone caught any passess , many fumbles etc . browns had the old style front toes kicker . cockroft missed several easy close range field goals and extra point . ball just slid off his front foot in the wrong direction, too low, or into the ground . oakland had a soccer style kicker , easier to cradle the ball with the whole inside of the foot . cleveland lost 14-12 . Oakland was the first and maybe still the only wild card team to go on to win the super bowl
Levens best game
He had a great game the next year against Dallas too. 33 rushes for 190 yards and 4 receptions for 17 yards. 1 TD.
Madden and summerall were the best. They loved the game, enhanced the game with intelligent nuanced announcing. The game now centers on horrible officiating with a head ref in new york feeling like they have to explain every rule after watching endless replays and mind numbing officiating and rules. The game has lost so much from this bygone era of excellence. The nfl seems like wwe now. Simply unwatchable.
Can you do week 4 of 2010 packers vs lions
Yes
Does it get better than a crisp day in Lambeau, with Pat and John calling the game!! I cannot stand Joe Buck and Troy Aikman calling a game at Lambeau, they should be denied entry, and call the game from a truck off the property!
Every time Joe Buck and Aikman call a Packer game I either cringe or get bad flashbacks from 2015 NFC Championship game against Seattle
Yawn
@@FHTV19 they make you cringe but the Packers choking doesn’t make you cringe?

Stinks they’ve decided not to seek a GM worthy of a comparison to him.
And to think they had him in Schneider,...but was to stupid to see that.
Seeing this on the eve of the NFCCG against Tampa. I hope by now, regardless of whatever happens tomorrow, you've given more credit to Thompson and Gutekunst. They deserve it.

I will forever argue that the '96 Packers are one of the best teams in the history of the NFL. They really had no flaws.
#1 offense & #1 defense...yeah that's pretty good.
@@MRoo1oo And the special teams weren't too shabby either. Best returner that year in Howard, best punter/kickoff guy in Hentrich, and Chris Jacke was good enough.
2012 Packers could have been..still don't know how they flunked
The 99 Rams played 1 of the Easiest Schedules in NFL History.
Only flaw was the inability to beat the Cowboys. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the Packers host them in the NFC Championship to see if they could finally take the torch.
That 96 Packer team was flashy and explosive with a playmaking defense while Desmond Howard was the X factor on special teams. This was the Packers best team to date...

People forget how Good Brett Favre actually was in his prime under Holmgren. He was easily one of the GOAT QB's in the league.
Only after Holmgren left he became an interception machine.
Brett Favre is not a goat what so ever.... No repeat and known to throw a bonehead int in the playoffs...... BTW..... and he has the most ints of all time
@@robbturner2285 wow rob thanks for that info. next time tell us something we don't know.
@robbturner2285 Also played longer than 99.9% of all QBs. Did he have the highest INT percentage? No, not even close. He held every passing record at one time when he was done along with consecutive starts that will likely never be broken. What have you done outside of write BS on YT?
Strangely, he was a goat, despite being an interception machine. He had problems with them under holmgren also, Before he learned to spread the ball around and stop force feeding Sterling Sharpe. (Another goat imo.
I was so glad we won BUT I really wanted Dallas in Green Bay. We lost to them in Dallas so damn many times I wanted them to have to come here. But WE WON!! Thats what counts.
Rodgers is 7-2 vs the Cowboys, and has never lost a game in AT&T stadium.
I wanted that match up so bad as a Cowboys fan. I think we would have lost comfortably in the NFC championship, but it would of made for a hell of a story if the Packers had choked at home. The Cowboys defense in 96' was capable of winning against anyone.
Unfortunately their offense shit the bed all season, especially without their best player Michael Irvin who cost them home field in the divisional missing 5 games suspended at the start of the season, but most importantly he got hurt in the first possession against the Panthers and we had nothing at WR behind him.
The Cowboys down the stretch that year beat the Packers, 49'ers and Patriots all on the strength of incredible defensive efforts.

THIS was Packers football. Smash mouth hitting from Newsome, Eugene and Leroy in the secondary. Dotson, Reggie, and big Gilbert holding it down up front. Running the ball with Levens and Bennet. Favre tossing to Freeman, Rison, Chewy, and Bebee slicing up a great Carolina defense with Lathan, Green, and Mills. Desmond and Jacke doing their thing on special teams. 1996, the expansion teams Carolina and Jacksonville both make 1 game short of a Super Bowl.
That's incredible
That is a stunning fact
If they had both made the SB people would’ve thought something was rigged.
Erix7810 I remember Jacksonville upset Buffalo and Denver on the road and played New England and got beat. Brunell threw too many picks and Natrone Means was a non factor after rushing for 186 and 120+ in the previous 2 games.
That was insane. We'll probably never see that again in the NFL.
The 96 packers were number 1 in offense defense and special teams.
Great memories
I don't know if it's the sound quality or what, but to me the Lambeau crowd of the 90s seems way more energetic and loud. Anyone feel the same way?
Yea and the goodyear blimp sound in the background and the groans on collisions
A Packers defense that was dominant in the playoffs? Never thought I'd see the day.
Lol I feel you. I mean green bay did have a top 10 in 2010 and a pretty good defense in 2014 but everyother year lately has been trash. This year the defense will be better but how how much better is the question
