  • In this classic from 1996, Brett Favre and the NFC's Packers take on Drew Bledsoe and the AFC's Patriots for the 31st iteration of the Super Bowl. Green Bay got of to a fast start thanks to a 54 yard touchdown from Favre to WR Andre Rison and a FG from Chirs Jacke. But New England battled back, and took a 14-10 lead at the end of the first. An 81 yard touchdown from Favre to Antonio Freeman gave Green Bay the lead right back in what was then the longest play in Super Bowl history, and the Packers extended that lead to 27-14 right before half on a Favre touchdown run. New England attempted a comeback in the 3rd as Curtis Martin rumbled in for a score, cutting the lead to 6, but Desmond Howard returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for the touchdown on the game's signature play and Green Bay converted the 2 point conversion to give them a commanding 35-21 lead, which would ultimately be the final score. Howard earned MVP honors, Favre threw for 246 with three total touchdowns and Reggie White set a Super Bowl record with 3 sacks.

Packers were probably the most complete team ever that year. Number 1 offense, number 1 defense, and number 1 special teams. You can’t get any better than the 1996 Packers.

had Farve been less of a gunslinger and more into td/int ratio, i think we'd been 15-1 or 16-0 that season... very hard to not lose a few games here and there under Brett.... but anyhow just an amazing assemblage of depth, teamwork, and dedication.

3 sacks by a single player in a super bowl deserved to get MVP, but 244 return yards in a single game, let alone in a super bowl, is insane.

@Joseph Van Horn it is true that he did play for philadelphia but he was traded to Green Bay because of his falling out with Buddy Ryan. Buddy had demanded that he injure opposing teams skill players and that's why he wanted to be traded.

@Joseph Van Horn do you even remember the bountygate game? Buddy Ryan was the head coach at the time before he took the job as defensive coordinator for the Houston Oilers. Reggie White was a part of the eagles during that time but didn't suit up for that game. As far as the owner wanting to move the team to the hottest place in the country it would have cost him a lot more than if he stayed.

Interesting fact about this team. Andre Rison had a terrible memory and if you watch every huddle Favre had to tell Rison the play if he was intended receiver. The touchdown he scored on was an audible and the reason why Favre was so happy was actually because he was shocked Rison ran the route that he was supposed to. And Rison guessed the route.

What happened was that Holmgren, as he was being carried off the field, he saw Parcells and wanted to go and shake hands with him, which he always did with the opposing coach, win or lose. Parcells saw this and waved to Holmgren as if to say, "It's okay, go ahead and enjoy this."

Not to mention all the nfl records he has, such as scoring over 1000 points for 2 franchises. And he has multiple super bowl winning kicks. Never truly appreciated this. Hell of a career, from a packers fan

I am of Venezuelan origin, but my parents both worked in an oil company (Halliburton) and they gave them a ticket for 4 people plus a flight to go see this meeting. Good times in our country. I still have some memories like when we had lunch at a Mc Donals near the stadium and also the wonderful lifestyle of American citizens. Greetings to all.
