Americans don’t know this but this man is filthy rich. It’s true that his new show Lupin is doing great in the US but he has been rich for over a decade. Omar Sy doesn’t need the us market to stay wealthy. Jimmy talks to him as if he just made it because he moved to America. He bought a 7 million dollar house in LA before Lupin. That goes to show how good of a career he has had in Europe and mainly in french cinema. One of my favourite actors of all time. I’ve seen most of his work. That is in fact close to how a native French speaker of the Americas would pronounce Lupin. It’s just to put it into perspective for his American audience. I’m sure if he had only said the name of the award most people would not know wtf he was talking about
Honestly i can understand how Jimmy uses it as an element of context. But he could have ask other questions about his career like his role in "intouchable" which is probably still the best grossing foreign film in the world to this day. Funny fact it was remade a few years ago for US audiences with "the Upside" where his character was interpreted by Kevin Hart. The original is way better. He also had supporting roles in the x-men franchise and Jurassic World.
Jimmy really made me cringe here. Omar seems like such a wonderful, charismatic guy and we're focusing on how he learnt English? And about how he must have watched American shows? Why not ask about his career? I really don't get how unabashedly, and almost ignorantly American Jimmy can be sometimes.
As a German I can say that we love Omar here . He is such a interesting person with great movies but this interview was really a missing opportunity. It’s crazy how big the differences between European and American people are .
Gosh I really cannot deal with American obnoxiousness. "The French 'equivalent' of the Oscars" and equating success to being known by Americans. They think the world revolves around them! We Europeans have our own stars, our own actors/musicians, not everything has to relate to Americans.
its an american show mostly watched by americans, wtf did you expect for him to say? its a comparison most people will understand.. (im dutch btw, so european)
Jimmy Kimmel is a terrible interviewer when it comes to non-American guests. So much cringe. He epitomizes the typical American character the rest of the world has in their minds.
Tell me about it! As a European I cringe at most of these American hosts, they just perpetuate the stereotype of the American who thinks the US is the be-all and end-all. They think we need American support for success, little do they know there are super famous people across the world that most Americans have no clue about.
@@marcosgarces1666 I think they are just pointing out how self-centered that comment was. As if the award he won was "less" because the real deal are the Oscar's, and that was just the French version. To be fair, I get where you come from, but I feel that the interviewer was being quite condescending at certain times of the interview, that's why I think the comment about the French Oscar's was bad received.
@Simon If there is any award that actors want on their shelves it is an Oscar. I am not diminishing the worth of any other award, but to deny the value and power of an Oscar in comparison is ridiculous.
Right?? My Ex tried to get me to watch the Kevin Hart version and I was like, 'Hell no. You must be out of your damn mind.' Original, French version 4 eva. 💗💗💗
I have never even heard of 'The Upside' but thanks to you I will recoil from it should it ever cross my path ;-) 'Intouchables' is an absolutely fantastic movie that can't and shouldn't be remade.
It’s really sad..Americans aren’t interested in the rest of the world. Even in post soviet countries people know what’s going on in Europe. I’m from Azerbaijan, and here we know Omar Sy, and we love his movies! The same is in Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan.
I binge-watched the five episodes on the weekend. It is a great show, but let's be honest some of the ideas are too preposterous, even for a fictional series.
@@waryaawariiri1812 how are they preposterous. Its literally fiction. There are movies and series with flying Wizzards and magic and this is preposterous
He has a lovely character and Jimmy didn’t explore that at all, learning English shouldn’t have been the focus. I think Trevor Noah would be a better interviewer.
I suppose Jimmy was trying to make Omar Sy more relatable to his audience, Trevor's fans are already "open" to listen to other people's experience, since he comes from SouthAfrica.
For all you new Omar Sy fans, watch the original untouchables “Les Intouchables” it is one of the best films ever made and Omar is absolutely incredible in it.
This dude is talented, funny, with a joyful personality, but above all he’s a VERY HUMBLE man. I had the chance to meet him at the mosque I used to go to in Los Angeles around 2013-2014, and he’s just so down to earth. After the prayer, He hung out with us and engaged in small talk for like 30 min, talking about basket ball, telling jokes and even being made fun of. Of course only few people knew he was famous and filthy rich, but I was nonetheless impressed by his genuineness and humility. And to top it off, it wasn’t a one time thing too. Since that time I gained respect for him.
I guess that's why he moved to LA. He can be treated, his children can be treated like everybody else, more or less. That's a "luxury" he could afford. Americans don't know him, or barely, he's small potatoes in LA
Now you get to know why everyone loves him so much in France. Everyone. He’s the best version of all of us. This interview was a complete waste of his time and talents.
I'm Senegalese and honestly we couldn't be happier for Omar. He deserved all the success, he really worked for it. However I wish Jimmy would ask him more about his career but I have to say American people are quite self centered, ( I do have American friends don't get me wrong) everything he is asking is like do you know about us?
I am American and I agree with you. I would have loved to hear about his Senegalese and French background and experiences. As well as his other acting performances.

Right?! Such a missed opportunity!
Totally agree. I didn't expect that kind of silly conversation.
I love Jimmy but yeah, as a European person this interview really made my arms fall down
That’s American tv for you
As a German I can say that we love Omar here .
So real
@yuoop noke I should’ve clarified that it’s definitely not all Americans, it’s individuals like him that are ignorant smh
@yuoop noke not all, but large enough for it to be aggravating
its an american show mostly watched by americans, wtf did you expect for him to say? its a comparison most people will understand.. (im dutch btw, so european)
Europeans are doing the same thing with african or caribbean people , so why you are complaining ?!
His laugh is everything, Omar is one of the nicest guys ever
His character in The Intouchables is quite something
No lie!
Yeah i agreed it
*OMAR IS COMIN' YO* 😂😂
He is like Will Smith
He's such a brilliant actor and he seems like a down to earth, bubbly type of person.
He is the kante of the films
He was fantastic in The Intouchables
Hello, fellow Kenyan!

True ...
Jimmy Kimmel is a terrible interviewer when it comes to non-American guests. So much cringe. He epitomizes the typical American character the rest of the world has in their minds.
Tell me about
@@mameh.8116 always speaking america this americans that ... so annoying
Thats his job
Exactly, moreover I thought this interview was very boredom and superficial
Tell me about it! As a European I cringe at most of these American hosts, they just perpetuate the stereotype of the American who thinks the US is the be-all and end-all. They think we need American support for success, little do they know there are super famous people across the world that most Americans have no clue about.
Yes, every award outside America is a foreign Oscar
Yes…? I think that’s because oscars are American…
@@nanametafora3091 Actually, the real deal IS the Oscar, even to the French. Just ask Juliette Binoche, Marion Cotillard or Jean Dujardin.
They use it as a comparison so the American audience can understand the magnitude of his win. Not that complicated
@Simon If there is any award that actors want on their shelves it is an Oscar. I am not diminishing the worth of any other award, but to deny the value and power of an Oscar in comparison is ridiculous.
Many americans missed the pearl 'Intouchables' - oh, wait - they 'ruined it' with the american remake 'The Upside' :)
Right?? My Ex tried to get me to watch the Kevin Hart version and I was like, 'Hell no. You must be out of your damn mind.' Original, French version 4 eva. 💗💗💗
Preach on .
I'm glad I saw the real version before the American 😊
I have never even heard of 'The Upside' but thanks to you I will recoil from it should it ever cross my path ;-) 'Intouchables' is an absolutely fantastic movie that can't and shouldn't be remade.
🤣
Why is every single point Jimmy makes, literally every single one, is linked to how America is involved. C'est vraiment Américain ça.
Because he knows his audience - Americans mostly care about themselves. He also has to simplify things for the American audience.
It’s really sad..Americans aren’t interested in the rest of the world. Even in post soviet countries people know what’s going on in Europe.
I’m from Azerbaijan, and here we know Omar Sy, and we love his movies! The same is in Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan.
Because he’s American hosting a tv show in America?
He's literally an american host on an american show. You want him to relate his points to Japan? -.-
@Isa Bella The interview is for the audience. His senegalese background has nothing to do with his acting or why he's the US.
LUPIN is such brilliant show. He’s a genius thief.
no hes the gentleman thief :)

Brilliant
He has a lovely character and Jimmy didn’t explore that at all, learning English shouldn’t have been the focus. I think Trevor Noah would be a better interviewer.
You hit the nail on the head
100 agree
I suppose Jimmy was trying to make Omar Sy more relatable to his audience, Trevor's fans are already "open" to listen to other people's experience, since he comes from SouthAfrica.
Hell yes Trevor Noah’s interview would have been much better !!!!!
I was just thinking that!! 💯

Since that time I gained respect for him.
wow you're so lucky!
