Risk of Rain 2 - What are Proc-Chains?

  • Proc-coefficients and proc-chains are a big part of the Risk of Rain 2 gameplay loop, but what exactly are they? A lot of newer players might not know very much about these extremely impactful mechanics, so I figured I'd throw this quick guide together explaining them. We'll cover what proc-coefficients are, how they work, how they interact with items, what proc-chains are, and just how much proc-chains are capable of.
    The music used in the video is once again from the Risk of Rain 2 OST. It is called "The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky," and it was composed by Chris Christodoulou. You can find him and his other work here:

    The specific examples using the Bands are going to be outdated now after 1.0, but the core concept still ultimately applies.

      Glad to hear :] Yeah a lot of people know that proc-chains are strong, but not so much WHY they're so strong or what all goes into them because the game doesn't really spell it out for you. The goal of this video was to help people get a better grasp on all that so they actually understand what's happening, cause I know for a while I was really confused when I'd shoot one enemy and the other 15 around it would die lol

    Now with the DLC there is one item that can proc multiple times in a chain and even itself, that item is the singularity band(void green)

    I once got the Bazooka, Knives, and ATG Launcher on console. I don't know what happened but each explosion that happened from knives getting stuck in walls caused it to endlessly shoot out ATG rockets. It crashed my console.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but an item can proc twice if it’s an the same proc chain as long as you have on kill stuff in the proc chain to reset it for like wisps nukhanas royal capacitator daggers

    • @BlackFlameMG
      @BlackFlameMG  2 года назад +1

      While that is true, that is also technically considered a seperate proc-chain. A Wisp going off is triggered by the enemy dying, not by the AtG hitting it, if that makes sense

    What about procs / items that only go off of your base damage, how do they work out?

    • @BlackFlameMG
      @BlackFlameMG  4 года назад +4

      So items that deal base damage will always deal that % of your base damage. So, with a Tri-Tip dagger for instance, if you hit something with your primary as Commando, the bleed will do 240% base damage. Now if you hit something with a Capacitor for instance, it will still do 240% base damage. The only factor with base damage is your character's base damage. The damage of the hit that procced it is irrelevant.
      Another example would be if the AtG did base damage instead of total damage, it would ALWAYS do 300% of your base damage instead of 300% of the damage of the hit that procced it. Fortunately, pretty much all of the on-hit items except for the Tri-Tip Dagger deal total damage, so you don't really have to worry about that much.

    Can proc chains “branch”? Say your initial hit procs both ukulele and atg missiles. Can the missile still proc ukulele and the ukulele still proc more missiles?

    • @BlackFlameMG
      @BlackFlameMG  3 года назад +2

      Yes, those would be treated as the start of two seperate chains

  • @snailforce
    @snailforce Год назад

    Does the order matter? Like it is important that the ukulele is after the ATK or can it be before it, bc you must have very high luck to get these items in that order(ATG+ukulele+razor wire+the bands and so on). This seems hard to get right, doesn't it?

    • @BlackFlameMG
      @BlackFlameMG  Год назад +1

      Ultimately you don't have control over what order your items go off in a proc-chain, so it doesn't really matter. Some proc-chains will be stronger than others because of the order your items go off, but any kind of proc-chain will still do a lot of damage. The ideal order everything goes off in the example I gave was theoretically possible, but incredibly unlikely to have all of those things happen in that specific order. I was just using it as an example to show how powerful proc-chains can be

    • @BlackFlameMG
      @BlackFlameMG  4 года назад +1

      In my mind what I had meant was that an AtG plus this ability would equal 10%, not necessarily the direct math behind it. Probably doesn't make the most sense, but oh well.
