I was just listening to Howard Show today where he was talking up Richard Christy and how good he is. He knows Richard Christy has been voted best drummer in the world more than once
Yeah, they have no idea how good Richard is. This is the best way to explain Richard as a drummer....he was essentially handpicked by the most influential musical genius in the metal world, Chuck Schuldiner, to be the drummer in his band. Chuck did not deal with hacks. Not only did he have incredible drummers like Richard, Gene Hoglan, and Sean Reinert play in his band,..but he also recruited amazing guitar players like Bobby Koelble and Andy Larocque. Andy has played with King Diamond for decades and Bobby is a freaking university jazz professor. So based on who Chuck had in his band, it tells you just how good Richard is. The dude is way too humble.
Calm down we know Richard is talented. That is the spirit of the Stern show, they would ridicule EVERYTHING. That’s what made the Stern show great. Go listen to the Elvis Duran Show and it’s fake banter if you don’t want to be offended.
Lol okay. Go look up Sean Reinert with death and look at the comments. But really what makes Richard better than Sean? Richard Christy is a really chaotic drummer and he's really fast with his hands, but Sean Reinert knows just about every drumming style there is. And he's really fast with double bass too.
it pissed me off when they said that the two songs they showed were death metal, and they just sit there and think this what we are all about, i wish metal would be taken more seriously

crackers472 During Richard's audition the producer who brought him in was thoroughly impressed with his drumming and record since he was a metal fan himself. The others aren't going to pay attention to that because quite frankly he's auditioning and is now a comedy writer. Plus the show doesn't really focus on that stuff.
Pretty much. He was in Chuck Schuldiner's band Death, which was basically a rotating "who's who" lineup of some of the most talented musicians in the death metal genre, hands down.
They have no idea... This is Richard Christy... Sounds of Perseverance has my favorite metal drumming of all time... This guy has one of the most original styles in metal. He was one of the few drummers on the planet that could follow Sean Reinert and Gene Hoglan.... They have no clue. Wow.
Only one album? I thought he was their long time drummer? The only Death I've seen was a DVD they made and Richard was on the drums. Still blows my mind the way he plays. He shits on any other death metal drummer. There's so many death metal drummers that are nothing other than fast but Richard does a lot more than just play fast beats and fills. Though what he played here on the show wasn't the best example of it.
Likeyoucare ...a show you like so much you look it up on you tube to watch... Yeah you dont like it at all huh? You closeted Stern fans crack me up, so unself aware that you like him and thats why you watch him. Keep saying you dont like him though, it makes you seem so virtuous and cool!
Howard needs to WAKE UP!!! He's got one of the best, most multi talented drummers in the world working on his show and Im not sure he knows it… Richard can play anything!!!
Yea because Artie must know a little bit about music. Ralph especially just completely embarrassed himself by showing what an ignorant fuck he is at the end. Even on guitar Richard is good.
Artie worked in a world full of talent. If you were immersed in that as long as he was, you’d recognize talent when you saw it. To go ahead and bash it after that would have been fucking cheap and lame. And he probably would have gotten shit for doing shit like that from the people he probably most respects. You could hear the awe in his voice. It’s really cool when talent respects talent.
I dont particularly like death metal but Richard is REALLY good. I'm a drummer and they give him absolutely no respect. He is held in high regard in the death metal community. Adam Jarvis is faster tho.... hahahaha. Now HE is unreal Richard never really explained what a career he had. Granted, this type of music garners very little attention and very low pay but never the less, the guy was really big in the scene.
If you are not interested in Death Metal you should try The Fragile Art of Existance, bassically Death Metal with clear vocal, and Richard was playing the drum on it
for gods sake show the man some respect he played with Death and Iced Earth and has his own band now, he is a very talented drummer and funny guy... who is ralph especially to criticize richard god damn.
What happened to the video of Richard playing his original song 'Frost?' The video was filmed in the stern's studio and used to be on youtube. Hacen't been able to find it recently
i don't care if Howard & crew -- especially Ralph at the end -- dislike death metal/black metal/grind/etc. i understand that. what bothers me is that they didn't have the capacity to appreciate how talented Richard was. i'm not even talking about the blast beats and the double-bass and tom rolls. listen to his discography: Richard's got serious chops.
Agreed but it's really almost impossible for a non drummer to understand how good he is. Even beginner drums just can't comprehend why what he does is so special or how hard it is to do. It just sounds like a bunch of noise to people who don't play the drums anywhere near that level.
DrJuice1Agreed Hugo & Dr....Richard played on Death's Sound of Perseverance. Chuck Schuldiner didn't fuck around when he enlisted talent. Richard was no exception. Richard is a god in the drum world merely with that on his resume and deservedly so. On another note, People that don't understand this type of music shouldn't comment on it as they are just plain ignorant to the level of dedication it takes to play drums (or any instrument in this genre) on this level! Horns up, way up!
Yes Robin, I listen to records, albums, cd's whatever...every. single. day. Along with seeing as many shows as I possibly can, as often as I can; at 37. Awesome sauce.
Richard is highly underrated as a drummer on the Stern show. He used to be in a killer band called DEATH,one of the best metal bands ever. He's killer.
Once Howard Stern retires he'll just be a footnote in entertainment history. Metalheads will be listening to Christy's drumming on masterpieces like The Sounds of Perseverance for probably as long as recorded music exists.
For all of you who don't like metal and therefore cant be objective, Richard Christy is both extremely talented and well versed in drums. Trust me he's good. Very good.
Yesss same here! He and I had an ongoing conversation not that long ago just because I asked him about a festival he played at, that Pantera headlined. He is seriously the sweetest dude. and the most badass drummer around. legend.
Richard... Along with Gary, the two genuinely nice, decent people on this show. None of them are total dicks (except Stuttering John, way back), but Gary and Richard are genuinely warm-hearted guys. Richard has exactly the right temperament to deal with that fucking zoo. Good for him.
Richard Christy is literally a legend, it sucks he doesn't get the recognition he deserves for the Sound of Perseverance masterpiece. Also Robin is a talentless hack.
love how they were all making fun of metal at the start and as soon as they herd richard play they were fucking shocked. good job richard! put em in there place haha

Also, if you heard just the drums of any song you listen to, you probably would have no clue what it was. Most drum beats are identical, as all popular songs play a basic 4/4 time signature, there as most songs will have the same exact beats, with just different fills in different locations to progress with the song. It's actually easier to identify a metal song with just the drums as opposed to most radio friendly songs, as they are all very similar.
Yes, and so could anybody who is musically inclined. I actually go through songs only paying attention to one instrument because than I can fully appreciate the beauty of it. I personally play drums, so the drums are always what I catch onto first. But to answer the question, I could easily do that.
Richard is great, and I definitely don't think they're disrespecting him at all. I listen to Stern on a daily basis, and it was due to the fact that I found out that Richard was part of the show. They just don't get it...I think they definitely respect his talent, but don't understand that style of music.
Richard is hands down the best member of the show. Or at least my favorite. And even before I saw the IQ test I knew Richard was pretty smart. That's why I love the bits he does haha. Plus he was in fucking Death. Icing on the cake.
Stern doesn't know it, but he has one of the top five metal drummers right there on his staff.
It's hard to quantify the best, but don't try to deny his work on The Sound Of Perseverance...
definitely needed more episodes of him drumming.
i know it pisses me off to see him belittled
punisherthunder top 10 easy, but he's too humble. how can you talk shit to him? you'd wanna be his friend.
I was just listening to Howard Show today where he was talking up Richard Christy and how good he is. He knows Richard Christy has been voted best drummer in the world more than once

Artie likes ACDC, enough said. One of the worst bands ever. Death is legendary.
@@charliedroves5610 This is true, though XD
They have no clue that The Sound Of Perseverance Is One Of The Greatest Metal Albums Ever Recorded
I know its brutal
chris fattoruso dude, sound of perseverance is the pinnacle of metal, richard christy is one of the best drummers ever
chris fattoruso FACT
Sean reinert is WAY better than Richard though... Just listen to together as one or secret face.
Lol okay. Go look up Sean Reinert with death and look at the comments. But really what makes Richard better than Sean? Richard Christy is a really chaotic drummer and he's really fast with his hands, but Sean Reinert knows just about every drumming style there is. And he's really fast with double bass too.
I like how Richard has more talent than everyone on the show combined, and is made fun of the most. They should bow to him.
it pissed me off when they said that the two songs they showed were death metal, and they just sit there and think this what we are all about, i wish metal would be taken more seriously

richard's modesty makes the joke work tho
Death was one of the greatest bands of all time and Richard is an amazing drummer. R.I.P Chuck.
Richard is an incredible drummer more that they would ever know!

My favorite part of this vid is Artie's utter shock when Richard stops drumming.
"Wow. You're talented!"
Holy shit!!! Richard is just a sick drummer!! Most talent of anyone else on the show IMO.
+bob webb Stern is on a level all by himself, my bro...
He was and still is a metal drummer, even before he became a comedian

Richard Christy was the man who inspired me to start learning drums. He's the fuckin man!
Seriously he needs more respect. He played with chuck schuldiner for fuck's sake and recorded a bad ass album with him.

RIchard drummed for ICed Earth and Death.. his credibility speaks for itself.. he doesn't even need to prove anything.
Richard is one of the very best drummers in the world. A very nice man. Met him a few times through a friend who lived with him in Florida.
