Richard Christy is a really chaotic drummer and he's really fast with his hands, but Sean Reinert knows just about every drumming style there is. And he's really fast with double bass too.

Yeah, they have no idea how good Richard is. This is the best way to explain Richard as a drummer....he was essentially handpicked by the most influential musical genius in the metal world, Chuck Schuldiner, to be the drummer in his band. Chuck did not deal with hacks. Not only did he have incredible drummers like Richard, Gene Hoglan, and Sean Reinert play in his band,..but he also recruited amazing guitar players like Bobby Koelble and Andy Larocque. Andy has played with King Diamond for decades and Bobby is a freaking university jazz professor. So based on who Chuck had in his band, it tells you just how good Richard is. The dude is way too humble.

Only one album? I thought he was their long time drummer? The only Death I've seen was a DVD they made and Richard was on the drums. Still blows my mind the way he plays. He shits on any other death metal drummer. There's so many death metal drummers that are nothing other than fast but Richard does a lot more than just play fast beats and fills. Though what he played here on the show wasn't the best example of it.

Yup, they sure sound like parents. I dont even know who some of the black metal bands were but it sounds fine to me. No disrespect but vocals like that are ideal for this type of music. It's an extreme form of expression after all. Imagine Dio singing freezing moon

+Daniel Parra black metal is garbage man. nothing there. No musicality anywhere as a whole. Some are great musicians by themselves but when it all come together it's pure garbage

Ulysses M. no, some if it is really good. it's like anything. tell me there aren't a million garbage rock or pop bands too.

Ulysses M. so... maybe death metal just isn't your genre, rather than "it's all garbage". people take such extreme views on things that don't related to them at all. it's why we still have war.

Richard is extremely talented as a writer as well. He'll never get the respect he deserves because he'll always be used as a punchline. The Artie years were truly the last great years of the show. Although I'll listen until the last day he does a show, I still miss the way the show used to be. Marci Turk needs to give Howard his balls back and let him call the shots again. Anyway, Richard and Sal's calls/bits are always the best part of the new show.

I hope people reading the comments dont think that Richard & Death are being praised due to the connection they have with The Howard Stern show. Its a niche genre with many great bands but Death really is legendary; to put it into perspective, all of their albums on RYM (IMDB/RottenTomatos version of music) are 4+/5 stars which is akin to a directors filmography getting 9+/10 ratings on every movie theyve ever made. They are considered the pioneers of the death metal genre (as in, they invented it. The same way Black Sabbath are cited as the pioneers of heavy metal.
As per the wikipedia article : *Death is considered to be one of the most influential bands in heavy metal and a pioneering force in death metal. Death is also now recognized as one of the most acclaimed music groups of all time, held in high praise by critics, metal musicians, and fans*
So, yeah... listening to Howard here is like nails on a chalkboard.
You dont have to love it to appreciate it. Its like goofing on Picasso & calling 'cubism' silly simply because his art isnt to your liking.

Yes, and so could anybody who is musically inclined. I actually go through songs only paying attention to one instrument because than I can fully appreciate the beauty of it. I personally play drums, so the drums are always what I catch onto first. But to answer the question, I could easily do that.
