Thanks it won’t be the last time they end up on tv, he’s certifiably crazy. That ten k for the house is flee money.
Terrible title Law and Crime, I love your channel but why use the term "shacked up". Obviously this family fled Illinois and wants no contact with family. You can hear the emotion in the man's voice, people disappear for a reason.
I took a year long round the world trip in my 30's, when I got back my passport guarantor had been called by a police sergeant 7 times. I called the sergeant and he had Interpol (and other agencies) track my passport, the sergeant knew every country I'd been to including time and dates. All because I wanted nothing to do with my family.
To the family in this report "shacked up" in a tent trailer, I feel you, I am you and I know that you wouldn't trade that trailer for a palace if it meant going back. I wish you continued freedom and blessings, stay strong.
@@truecrimereaction sure is! Can’t wait to see more.
reminds me of the time the internet investigated a missing hiker. Someone from the family spoke out saying "there's a reason he left everything". Mind your own effing business.
Nobody hurts you more than family.
AMEN TO THAT
Simple, but true.
Boy, you’re not kiddin’
My dad used to say nobody knows just the right way to make you hurt and suffer like your own family. Because they know right where to hit you where it hurts.
Simple facts
Ain’t nothing wrong with wanting to get away from toxic people… even if it is family.
A sister worried about her siblings who she hasn’t heard from for weeks isn’t really toxic. Especially if they are missing with a dad who has prior DV charges. We would be calling the sister “careless” if she DIDNT report them missing & something actually happened to them.
The father IS the toxic one. This won’t end well. Mark my words. He has talked in the past about killing the entire family.
@@dejuhvu1793 Exactly.
@@dejuhvu1793aren’t the domestic violence charges regarding a fight between him and his daughter?
@@QueenOfTheNorth65 This is what happens in a DV situation and you start exploding, and the solution is exactly what he is doing, removing and de-stressing yourself.
The future is always unsure, but his decision was to middle finger his way out to what was best for him at the time.
This officer was extremely polite and a good example of great policing. He could have just done his business and walked away, but instead got to know the guy a little bit more and have a good, decent conversation with him, albeit under strange circumstances. Good example of EXCELLENT community building that a lot of officers can lack.
👍👍👍
Bs. He was fishing the whole time.
Most police are good.
Looks to me like these people just wanted to get away form a bad situation and be left alone. Someone from the Sheriffs office released this video and it took me less than 5 minutes to figure out exactly where Lutz was working. The cop Romero was pleasant enough but I guess the news medias interest in ginning up a story was more important to the cops than this families privacy.
Some of the best policing in the nation.
It makes me really sad because that immediate crack in his voice is all too familiar for me. We are never obligated to keep people in our lives even when they are family if they are toxic and harmful. Ive heard "You only get one mother, you really need to stay close to her" so many times in my life. My response to that is always yes, "And she only got one chance to be a mother to me."
I really dig your comment and totally relate.
My father was my issue.
Same here 👌
Stephen Lutz is the harmful one. There is a warrant out for him for missing a court date due to his domestic violence charge. Plus: More recently, he was charged with soliciting a minor in 2020. His felony indecent solicitation charge was dismissed, and he pled guilty to obscenity, court records showed. Stephen was sentenced to a $1,500 fine and six months supervision.
True and yes I agree hes very hurt😢
I did something similar with my family. I just moved away to another state. After 3 years I started talking to them again. Big mistake! If you have toxic family never tell them where you live, where you work, what's your phone number, If you need to call them use a pay phone or a throw away minutes phone.
Sometimes you are done trying and just need to distance yourself.
What is this “pay phone” you speak of? Don’t you have to pay for every phone? Lol
Yeah well "disappearing" and moving away are different. Seems you had sense to leave your situation the adult way.
@@McCalifornia That's a good idea!

What sucks the most about this video is that now that it's been released the family members who drove this poor family away from their *home* now know where they are. I hope the Lutz family was given the heads up that this video was going to be released, or at the very least that there's a chance it could get released so they could pack up and move from this area of AZ!
Perhaps they waited to post it, once the Lutz family had moved on, out of the area. It would then just be considered proof of life, to stop the daughter and those she was using in Illinois to stop harassing them. Let's pray that this is the situation.
I really hope this family isn’t living in this area anymore because now it’s public knowledge. It would be nice to know that their wishes were respected. It sounds like they were scared
Do they say where they are?
What happened to restraining orders? Is it really harder to get one than go into hiding and moving out of state?
@@fazijslive Really? From personal experience, they're a joke. Hard to enforce. You can get them, when the victim has enough evidence to support it for the judge to issue it, but for much of the time, they're not issued. Then it's getting them enforced because you have to catch them in the act of violating the order, BY the police, not the victim. By the time they get there, the perp is long gone, and the crime has already been committed against the victim that the TRO is supposed to stop. They're also not enforceable across state lined.
I can’t even imagine a daughter doing something so bad that your dad hides from you.

I hate that the guy on the phone was trying to coerce him to call his family when he repeatedly said no.
He has an outstanding warrant, for alleged domestic battery, so maybe it's understandable that other family members want to check that everybody is safe.
The charge could be without merit, or malicious, but if the police didn't make contact, & something happened to the wife & kids, everybody would be aggrieved at police inaction.

It is odd but sometimes you need to get away from toxic relationships. Too stressful.
Yet here they are posting it online that he is in Arizona.
What is the toxic relationship we're talking about here? The Dad has a pending domestic battery charge, and it seems he's mad that his adult daughter is concerned for the family due to the charge as well as allegations she heard him muttering he wanted to kill his family. I have a hard time believing his wife and children were on board with leaving all of their belongings and cell phones in the middle of the night to go live in a tiny camper in the middle of nowhere. Sorry but something about this whole situation is off to me.
@Soul Warrior I don't think they can hide it. If someone does the paperwork to release bodycam, don't they have to? They did sensor some of the specifics

As someone who cut ties with family, I get so tired of people trying to guilt me for my decision the way the cops are trying to guilt that family. Trust me their kids know exactly what's going on and the cops know they are fine now and need to leave them alone. If the daughter keeps filing missing person reports knowing they are ok, she should be charged or ticketed. This family is begging for them not to disclose where they are and yet they basically said and showed their location of work and home in this video. Very sad. If that happened to me, I would be forced to pack up and move again. The cop continuing to ask him questions about his plans, is he going to move, get an apartment, how long their going to stay there, etc... is BS. You know they are safe, leave them alone.
In fairness to that officer, he's in a no-win situation. If he digs deeper, he's invading their privacy. If he doesn't dig deeper, and something happens (much like the Gabby Petito case), he'll be under fire for not doing more. For that reason, I suspect he was aiming for the middle ground, whilst trying to be respectful to all involved.
Having worked in safeguarding for a while, I suspect that the officer asked those things as the daughter has most likely made a bunch of allegations. As there are minors involved, he had a duty of care to them, so asked questions about their plans, etc. Why? So that, when the daughter comes back with more allegations and starts this up again, if the family are innocent he can say "actually, they didn't just run after they spoke to me, they did exactly what they said they would, making them credible". He's putting the building blocks in place to either protect them from future false allegations and harrassment from the daughter, or protect those kids if they genuinely are in danger (by sussing out the parents, using their reactions to his questioning and their reliability to keep their word).
@@t-and-p He can ask questions, but he shouldn't be forcing answers or guilting them into calling family or anyone else. I still believe that he did the best in a bad situation because, by getting answers now, he doesn't have to keep going back and harassing them everytime the daughter calls with a new allegation. In their shoes, I would rather go through this once and be left alone than be continually visited - especially as repeated visits have the potential to endanger work and living opportunities. Surely repeat visits are more of an invasion of privacy than a slightly longer/more in depth questioning - especially if you're wanting to clear your name and not have the local law enforcement in the new place you've moved to think you're some kind of abuser or someone to watch.

Good for this man and his family. I don't know the situation, but from the sounds of it, he got himself and his family out of a toxic environment.
I think more people should research the whole story before commenting that this is normal....... . In my opinion
That's how a police interaction should be like. To the lutz family keep doing what you think is best for your family!
Someone needs to talk to the children without the parents present. There is something way off with this.
Hearing the dad all most tear up says a lot about his hurt. The daughter must have hurt him deeply. Sounds like a toxic situation in the family. Praying for healing and glad they look safe.
He’s a s*x offender and DV abuser.
This family didn’t want anyone to know where they are so this video and story gets posted on RUclips and now everyone knows where to find them. Good one Law and Crime! 🤦🏼♀️🤷♀️
Not only that, this officer let them know (A few times)that the body cam was on to verify. Which means, they can request this footage.
Really? Where are they?
@@unanuevapecula watch the video and read the article if you really need to know.
It's all public information That's the way the law works
The cool thing about a mobile camper is that it moves
I love this cop - he's so sweet and even very personable and tries to give advice on a place this family may like to live or visit. Great job officer!!
Yikes, if he was not supposed to be in contact at all with his wife and kids but could just pack them up and whisk them to another state, the wife must feel she has no way to be safe. It's shocking he can do something so erratic and clearly against the law, and the cops just let them go and say they look fine while obviously on the run. WTF!
This officer deserves a huge raise.
Who here is old enough to remember when the nice cops fell for Brian Laundrie's nice guy act? That woman is clearly petrified.
Yes. Google Stephen Lutz.
She seemed very relaxed to me, not tense at all.
Don5vthink they so m7ch fell for the act, butvwerexput off by Gabbies self depreciation and hystericsxandxadmitting she grabbed the steering wheel. They further called in another agency that had a female cop to talk with Gabby. They separated them recommended she call her parents. But her fear of driving the van alone was so high, she went ahead and picked up brian in the morning...to her detriment. No one deserves death by a psychopath, but she wasn't an angel.
There is no law that you have to live in a brick n mortar home, home is where you make it. The kids are homeschooled and they're fine. Each to their own mind your own.
There’s actually are laws against living full time in travel trailers/campers
And lots of folks from all walks of life do just that & it isn't a bad thing. Sometimes it becomes a necessity.
Look what happened to Gabby Petito, dmv, fleeing police.. This is the same thing all over again.
@@jackyoung2441 I'm not sure about that. Also different in different states. FL has a unique law that even allows you to vote and claim residence in RV parks.
@@jackyoung2441 you’re completely wrong.
Man, that dude on the phone was making me mad how he kept making it seem like he owed them something for leaving, and he sound like he would tell their location too. I would not have called him at all. All he would have gotten was the body cam footage.
He sounds terrified of the 2 ladies- Brittney et al. Kinda sad really
I hope this family finds a safe, unknown place to live their lives and to be left alone. They deserve peace.
Confont, Missing, Shacked up. So many intensely loaded words for a family that is GASP!!!!! IN A CAMPER!!!
Exactly, the "shacked up" in the title pee'd me off. Umm it was formerly known as "camping" Listening to dad talk sounds like the adventure of a lifetime for the boys.
When I left, I flew to another country with my cats and didn't tell my immediate family either. The worst was leaving all my close friends behind. It's not an easy decision but a life-saving one. No regrets.
I feel great for this family. They had the fortitude to escape a bad situation. Too bad more people don’t do the same. I’ve known some families with members who are mistreated intra-family.
Did you read the article?
I can tell you this, he told the cop he was traveling the country. Then it was working vacation, all of a sudden he wanted to buy land and love to build a house on it. My radar is going off.
@@jlcollins7673 There was nothing special in the article. Said he was wanted on a misdemeanor DV warrant but gives no information at all about it. He's going to have to be in Ill. for anyone to care about that though.
@@doomman700 yes!!!!!
@Leebo McCool yeah there is sooo much more than that to this story. Period.
Sounds like they left a bad situation ❤ glad they met with a great officer

I'm glad everyone's okay. They really don't need to pry this much imo but again, glad everyone's alright
They're just trying to close out a missing person's case, otherwise they don't GAF. I agree that people are free to run off for any reason, and I'm sure the cops agree.
He has a warrant for an alleged domestic battery, so the police have to check that his wife & kids are ok. If they didn't & the wife & kids disappear, or their bodies turn up, everyone would proclaim that the "system failed them", & "they ignored the warnings"
They have a duty of care, to verify everybody is accounted for, to close the missing person case.
There's a link to an article in the description. 🙂
@@ShipsKat So you agree that all your stipulations for people to now leave them alone have been met. Oh and he doesn't have a warrant for domestic battery he has a bench warrant for missing a court date, I got one of those dismissed and my tickets put back on the docket a month after missing my court date. $150 to my attorney and I walked away with an improper equipment.
I wish them the best, seems like a good dude
A dude with prior domestic battery charges. The daughter worrying about her siblings is actually a good thing.
I have to give him props for not sticking around hearing the bull and standing his ground.
Everyone has a right to their privacy a right to choose where they wish to live how they wish to live and who they wish to talk too. This is ridiculous leave this family alone. PERIOD.
Until they turn up missing for good and people like you are in the comments talking about how big of a shame it is
There is a reason why these missing persons investigations exist. One time they turn out to be just left alone, the next they are found dead in the woods on the other side of the country. And I think that everyone would rather look for the people and find out that they are ok rather than ignored and never seen by anyone ever again.

Hey … those family members need another toxic member to keep them company. You volunteering? ‘Brittany and Mary’ need you!
This man is on the run from a warrant for his arrest for beating his wife. Then all of a sudden they disappear with the children after he reportedly threatened to kill his wife and children... So I think the older daughter is in the right just to check and make sure the kids are ok.
And the condition of his bond was to not be in contact with his wife... Which he is breaking. Unfortunately the state of Illinois cannot act on the warrant if he is not in the state.
how do I contact him to make that deal for buying that house

You can actually hear the hurt in his voice when talking about needing to be away from his family. So sad 😢 for some reason he reminds me of my father. Trying to his his feelings and the way he is reacting to the situation. My heart goes out to him.
I completely understand his decision, it's his life and he has the right to live it. I've been in the same situation and wish I could do what he has done, that takes so much courage. I wish nothing but good things for this family.

Good luck to this father and his wife and children. Him starting to cry speaking with his family on the phone was so sad. Clearly, this man loves his wife and kids, and is doing whatever he can to protect them
What kind of parent blames their daughter for leaving and living in a camper in an undisclosed location? For the children’s sake, it’s necessary to ask specific questions regarding school and well being. Instead of asking if they are still doing home school, they need to be asked something like what type of math homework are they doing today? If a daughter is pushing for them to be found, she is probably trying to protect her siblings. I know first hand as soon as cops or children services walk away, the kids soul can be screaming, Please don’t leave me here! These parents concern me.
This is going to end badly. The sister can feel she’s done everything she could to save them. But that father is dangerous.

They don't need permission to do this. When he said 'you aren't in any trouble' I laughed out loud. People can leave whenever they want and they don't have to ask permission or let anyone know.
You obviously didn’t read the article associated with the video, he has warrants for domestic battery for him. That’s what he ran from.
They wanted to check.... Look up Lori Vallow. Sometimes couples disappear and it turns out their kids are buried in the pet cemetery. So it's always good to do a simple welfare check. They only had one side of the story. I think the officer handled the situation wonderfully.

Before making assumptions that this man “has the right to leave”, he has a warrant out for his arrest in the state of illinois for beating his wife and known drug use. There’s a lot more to the story than you think. & she was worried about the safety of her siblings.

Of course, none of us know exactly what has happened behind closed doors. But, I can't help but question why one would go to such lengths and isolate certain family members so much if there wasn't something to hide or if he wasn't trying to control others who cannot or will not speak up to protect themselves.
