    The good ole days. I can hardly believe I'm looking back at 2000 as good ole days.

      Well, as they said, "the world will never be the same", and it hasn't been. That was the beginning of all this tyranny against the US citizens. After 911, the next major crisis was the plandemic. And there will be another one so they can further shape the world they want - complete control, track, stack and pack, get us eating insects, and transhumanism. Not to mention, slowly killing us off. Things will only get worse as we march toward 2030 which is their goal to have a lot of their draconian measures implemented.

      I don't know but would it be possible, what I mean to say is I think the zeitgeist of it was that it occurred when it did. I think if you try to do it now it unfortunately would render it forced and ineffectual. Almost like a spontaneous young love, it's beautiful because it happened in the moment and trying to recreate it again would only cheapen what it was he once gave us

      Well, of course it would be possible. But would it be popular? Would it get ratings? I believe it would, based on this very video. Ten million views in five years and 24,000 likes. Would Jay want to do it? I don't know. The only way we would find out would be to e-mail NBC and tell them we want it, and then see what happens. I think it could be a funny show, and not dated, because newspapers, magazines and restaurant menus still have unfortunate typos.

Maybe I'm just old now but the rate of change in our culture has seemed to speed up since 2000. Of course an earlier generation wished to return to a time "back before Elvis, before that Vietnam War came along. ". At a certain point in life it just seems to get ridiculous. You nailed it! I think that's why so many of us converted from Letterman to Leno in 1995. We tuned in on Hugh Grant night and saw Jay and Kevin doing Beyondo and having the best time. None of the angsty irony from Dave's world and it was a surprisingly better way to end a night. It really all turned around for Leno when Kevin moved into Branford's position.

    • @BhChicagoTVStationhistoriesand
      @BhChicagoTVStationhistoriesand 3 года назад

      Mike Stevenson Exactly. I'd been watching Jay from night one, it was obvious while Branford was a good, talented guy he wasn't going to be bandleader for long regardless of if Kev had taken over for him or not. Branford was just going in a different direction and he's done well for himself. When Kev took over, at first he was basically doing Branford's job to the letter. Then suddenly, and I can't remember how long after taking over it was, Jay decided one night to improv try some banter with him during the monologue. Bam, you could tell right away they had very good chemistry. Over a pretty short period of time after that, Jay added more and more monologue banter until he was a full regular part of that. Then he tried having Kev do some of the comedy bits/sketches with him and their chemistry got even stronger. Kev said in an interview several years back all of it just happened organically and that he didn't see any of it coming AT ALL. Also said it was the best time of his life, he loved every minute of it. Promoting Kev to bandleader when Branford left was the right call. Jay got his Ed McMahon...he got REALLY lucky, that night he decided to try the monologue banter paid off big time. Both Jay and Kev made the show what it was. Miss them both, I haven't watched late night or the Tonight Show since Jay left!

The few times I've seen a few minutes of Jimmy, it's obvious the Tonight Show is far too much weight for him, just way too much for him period. Hadn’t seen any of this, because I was more of a Letterman viewer, but this is probably Jay’s strong suit - taking relatable, genuine stuff and making it funnier. Similar to his ‘Jay Walking’ street interviews. Thanks very much for putting this together.

That stretch is by far the biggest bump it's had. It's unreal something I taped 20 years ago with no idea that more than a couple of people might ever have even seen it, has eaten up a millennia. Now imagine what a really popular channel's analytics look like. I imagine Netflix has comsumed billions of years of people's time.

He's on the other side of the audience, then all of a sudden I hear him calling to me! Threw me up a pair of Tonight Show socks to take home! Years before my Mom wrote to him telling him I was a fan of his and watched every night, he sent me an autograph pic of him for Christmas that I have in a frame! When he threw the socks up to me he somehow recognized me and said "You're a long way from home, LA isn't exactly right up the street!" and did his trademark laugh! I thanked him for granting my ticket request and he said no thank you for the support all these years, happy to do it for you! Class act, every bit the great guy in person as he was on TV.

    I'm a nurse. A few years ago, my co workers instructed me to go to one of the patient's rooms. I asked why and they told me to just go. I walked in, and there in the bed was a female who looked just like Jay Leno. I mean exactly. My jaw dropped and I looked out in the hall to find all of my co workers lined up waiting to see my reaction. I certainly didn't want to hurt the woman's feelings and started to chat with her and within a few minutes she was telling me how she had an affair with Tom Jones back in the day. She said she met him back stage and he invited her to his hotel room and how they would meet up in a hotel when he came to town. Granted, this would have been in her younger days but I never would have expected Tom Jones to be attracted to a Jay Leno look alike... even the younger version lol
