I've used there base. Lays smooth but doesn't cover well at all IMO. Mabey I added to much reducer. But over all for the money I would use there base NOT the clears.

I got a '99 F350 SD from a friend's dad's estate. Crew cab, 4wd, Warn bumper/winch combo- almost 25' long, sitting in a field (Central Oregon) for 2.5+ years. Big & ugly old cattle truck. Got it for less than 1/2 book. Off the bat, tore it down & re-vamped all the mechanic systems (brakes, powertrain, powertrain), replaced all the consumable parts, de-trimmed the body (even the glass pulled), stripped it to the metal and did a Maaco base/clear job for $5500. I know the crew, did as much as possible myself. Is it a show job? No. It's presentable & looks good 3+ years on. I have $20k in a truck that looks good, dependable, and sure beats a payment on a $110k truck
I like looking at your handwork so I can try to learn your technique but I just wish I could really experiment with painting before I shell out for the real deal materials and work on my whole car. Anyone know if there's a dirt cheap way to get some practice laying down and sanding air gun paint? I want to buy a used 6 gallon compressor and practice getting a wet finish before I do a whole car.
maaco is ok if you do the prep work of the car yourself and wet sand and but afterward especially on old school cars, because back then they were single stage paintjobs anyway

I use to work at a Marco back in 1985 I retired now but we use to spray Nason on overalls acrylic enamel we use to have 2 pressure pots one was for ready to spray sealer and the other was for paint that had bags in the pot only time we use gravity paint guns was on cars we had to match then you would mix dupont I made 10 dollars on overall and 5 dollars on the spot repair back then I made around 1200 dollars a week Malco will make you a great painter oh a normal week I would paint 75 to 80 cars a week

I have to ask why didn’t you paint the plastic pillar trim around the windows and doors ? It’s a vertical strip it would of made the car look way better
I'd rather see someone take care of their daily & give it a quick paint job in hopes of keeping it decent 2-4 years more than to go way into debt with a car note. Much more respect for them
Solid colors you can color sand and buff like if it were a run in the clear,but not on metallic colors cause paper will scratch the metallic making it look nasty.😮

I Rate You Buddy, I've Learned to Paint my Van in the street Because of your No Fuss Approach. Just get it on, sand, tack down spray until you get the finish you want. I've done mine with a Fence Sprayer Using Grey Oxide Primer & DTM 7021 RAL Black Grey paint for extra Rust Protection 😂😂 Il polish out any Rough Spots all Done in the street For $125 in Primer, Xylene Thinners, DTM Paint.

I just painted my truck again but it didn't come out right. Dad gonna help me next time. I tried using sealer but the can of sealer wasn't good nomore because the sealer came out clear so will need to use sealer again because when I didn't use sealer the last time painted it the sealer was bad because it sat out too long because it came out looking clear. It was 3 different times painted and it didn't come out right none of the times thinking about buying more supplies when I start working again almost 400 dollars worth of stuff. I spent over 1,000 dollars worth of stuff the 3 years been trying to paint. The best I painted was when I used a sealer last year though. But I need more supplies to clean my spray gun the spray gun wasn't getting fully clean the 3 times I tried to paint.
It’s refreshing seeing you stand up to a lot of these fools that don’t understand you have to eat too. Even on cheaper jobs like this, your experience, your tools, your knowledge and your facility have to be accounted for. Most of these people expecting so much for a scuff and shoot wouldn’t even be able to begin to prep a car for paint correctly.

I’m in Louisiana and been useing dynacoat base and high teck clear for cheaper then the Speedokote stuff and I get it all local and it’s really a better product
Everyone will have there opinion on what the best paint is. I've been using speedokote for over a decade now , and it's absolutely the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

That's cheap quality in my area. All the cheap guys are 3000-6000. High quality starts around 9-12 around northern East Coast area . I don't flip cars just do this for fun honestly

Labor and sterile conditions are the $$$- and it takes a week! a Big Co. paint job exceeds the price of most of these cars, so forget about flipping unless you paint the cars yourself like this. Pros like these can show you how to get it done with min prep and existing environment- that's the secret! if it runs, then a new set of tires and a paint job will flip it for sure.
This paints are more designed to be used with a high pressure low volume hplv spray guns designed to spray this nasty stuff at psi.air pressure at 40 to 50 psi and paint knob dialed in until paint droplets are fine.

I paint my junk in the yard. There are bugs, dust, ect. I don't care. I am polishing turds. If I can make my old beaters look better for a hundred bucks, that is how I do it.
If they wouldn't pay the money for that paint job then they can buy all the equipment, materials and do it the way they want. Or pay a shop the big bucks for that show finish.

Maaco uses a little more high quality paint then your stuff your wrong tho I worked for maaco it’s 2 coats and it’s 2250 base clear. Paint that don’t lay down good is junk
Your correct it doesn't lay flat. Macco does 2 coats on there high end stuff. Cheap 599-799 jobs it's one full wet coat till full coverage. I got a paint job at macco before and that's exactly what he said I was getting. Macco does good work for the money. It's just some of the independent franchise owners that do CRAP work and gives macco a bad name.
People forget the whole point of paint is to protect the car. Looking nice is a good bonus but when you get down to these old cars that aren't worth anything is it wise spending you life savings on paint? The answer is no, this paint looks ok on that car and even better for the money.

$1200 for a paint job, id expect it to be half way decent, massive orange peel is not decent, just saying. We're paying $1200 for it, we expect the paint to at least have some experience ya kno. Granted, it is Maaco after all, you get what you pay for

Go get a little beep bop 50$ 3 gallon mcgraw from hf and a small spray gun and play around.

Might be able to sand down what you have with 600 grit, shoot on one more light coat of base, 2 coats of clear and get it done

We tried high teck clear at our shop and it's terrible. Dries way too fast.

You can paint cars on the side for 1500 and make decant money. Only takes about 2-3 days if your slow. 1 day if your fast.
Y buddy works at maaco ,they are only allowed two quarts of paint to paint a car.Thats for their cheap jobs.

People forget the whole point of paint is to protect the car.
Looking nice is a good bonus but when you get down to these old cars that aren't worth anything is it wise spending you life savings on paint?
The answer is no, this paint looks ok on that car and even better for the money.
I used leftover materials on this car so technically the paint job was free. Mabey about 10 bucks in sand paper bondo and tape.

It's because I only did one coat. After 2 coats it would all kinda melt together and look uniform and more smooth.
On top of that I also did not reduce it enough

I used left over material junk , it was honestly free basically. But around 100$ material if I was actually counting it
$1200 for a paint job, id expect it to be half way decent, massive orange peel is not decent, just saying. We're paying $1200 for it, we expect the paint to at least have some experience ya kno. Granted, it is Maaco after all, you get what you pay for
