The Paint On This BMW Was Transformed!

- In this video we show you the process of restoring very damaged paint on an F10 535i BMW.
This was a complete restoration including, touch ups, wet sanding, compounding, polishing and ceramic coating. The entire process was described in this video. Information like pad type and hours required was summarized.

For $1,100 I wouldn’t mind spending that money on my own tools and sending it myself. Gotta challenge yourself every now and then, you might end up finding a new hobby trying new things.
I've got a friend who did just that. Wanted to clean his car really well so he got all the tools and products. A year later he has recouped his costs 10x by cleaning and paint correcting other people's cars.
I tried that back in the day and was able to get decent results on my E30 M3 but it took so long that I value letting a professional handle it.

Looking good! But just buy the tools and do it yourself it is easy and you can do it on future projects as well. People love watching detailing vids that show the work, including me😅.

The California car duster is a black cars best friend
If you have a performance car that is your Baby, and want to keep it for more than 5 years while adding Mods, a professional paint correction, PPF, and ceramic coating should be done at a shop. The PPF and ceramic coating have warranties that last anywhere from 3 to 5 to 10 years. If you get into an accident, the shop will reapply the PPF and ceramic coating under warranty. Don't forget to do the entire set of rims off the car. You can also ceramic coat interior parts, especially carbon fiber trim. You can even PPF your Nav display screens. I am sure there are also treatments for leather, fabric, and carpets, like 3M Scotch Guard.
If you are restoring a car (with PPF and ceramic coating) that is more than 3-5 years old and with more than 20k miles, you might have to have the front bumper repainted. You don't want to have to fix the bumper after the fact. For paint chips, look into Dr. Color Chip. Some shops that do PPF and ceramic coatings, have a profession Dr. Color Chip kit.

great job....very difficult to get a mirror like finish on a black car.was wet sanding ever a consideration in the paint restoration?I understand that the paint chips wouldn't have been corrected but maybe the wet sanding would have made it a "one foot car" 😁 great job Joel
5:26 I did wet sand the hood, trunk lid, and top 3 inches down the sides. The hood had deep deep swirls and rock chips. The sides are a one foot mirror finish, hood and trunk still has some flaws but it's awesome for a daily. Thank you so much by the way.

For $1100 it's a bit much. $6-700 I think it's a great price with the ceramic coating.
I done 4 car's so far, and only last car came out like 100%. and it took 2 days. "E93 m3"
A- for a nubi dual action machine is mast! - $100 (Looking on the cheapest one)
B- Compressor for blowing the pads another $150-200(Mast! there ways to do it without compressor, but it's pain and it not so affective, I would say 60-70% output)
C- Pads(I'm using the meguiar's $20 for microfiber and another 20 for fine pad) in total close to $60-80 if you trying to perfected. in some cases you need orange pad as well. there situations where you have problem spots as polish will stick to the paint, there lots of variations where you will spend time and extra money
D- Polish (same meguiar's 105-205-finish $60)
E- miscellaneous as clay bar, good microfiber towels, soap, backets, sand paper... $50-100
Pros:
-You will have that equipment and solutions for 4-5 cars.
-If you buy and sell cars that's the plus.
-Usable for many projects.
Cons:
-Need to store it somewhere. and the solution will expire in year or so.
-To High price for one car project.
-For first time takes about 2-4days to make it looks good, but not perfect.
-Learning curve.
Well you would know what your time and work is worth better than we would.

@@Makhnovets thank you for personifying the "guy who will do it cheaper," quoting you, those pads are good for 4 or 5 cars, and you forgot ceramic coating $125+, can you reuse that? For me this takes time away from building custom Mercedes engines, or diagnosing problems the dealer couldn't, so this isn't really a money maker it's to take care of my customers. Cost of living is high in SoCal

@@petritikkala8926 start with a fine polish like the yellow Rupes I used in the video, the blue might be a little harsh, that's what Musa used on the 535 when he did all the buttons and cup holder and stuff.

I have a dent on my front left panel and curb rashed wheels would my insurance kick me some money ?
So those two items might be below your deductible so it is probably not worth making a claim against your insurance for a few bucks.
The cars left headlight is different to the one on the right take a look, I suggest you get them the same, and I also hope you will be putting original BMW wheels on it

Not enjoying this content…too much unnecessary talking just to advertise something that wouldn’t be of much use to DIY enthusiasts. Clearly this dude is hiding his trade secrets which is fine but as a BMW enthusiast, this is below par.
For some background info, Joel helped considerably with the cost of this restoration and this in turn will help pay the bills at the new shop when this car is ready to be sold. You're seeing new things from me to make this viable as I'd really like to turn this into a small dealership if possible. So I appreciate the feedback, when the right car comes along which justifies a thorough DIY I'll be sure to cover the steps. One is for sure I wouldn't have tried to provide a thorough guide in detailing as I don't enjoy it. I painted my E90 at home and the video was a flop and it took ages to film lol.
Sorry you feel that way, I had no part of editing the video, but some things just are not cost effective to DIY. If you want to see more detailed instructions on each step I can do that, but I wasn't hiding any trade secrets, experience helps identify issues so you don't spin your wheels, but each car there is some trial and error. I ended up not liking the first cut so I wet sanded with 2000 and 3000 with the Rupes. If you have any questions about any of the steps you can message me,

I completely understand your explanation for content and that there has to be something for everyone but truth be told I have benefited tremendously from this channel and perhaps just want to see more of the same to inspire me to take on more task. 200$ in equipment sounds better than 800 or 1100 d: wish you would of taught us how to diy but I guess there’s thousands of videos everywhere else. Keep up the vids👍🏽🫡
Actually it's $200 in supplies not equipment, just the Rupes is $500+ plus the small Rupes $400. Every car you do costs $200 in supplies and that's when you buy gallons that you can divide up on 4-5 cars. I did say Larry at Ammo has great videos but I will do some more in depth on the detailing. The 328 coming up has a terrible interior.
