This totally worked on my brassy, orangy, yellow hair!!
Did you use the lavender on your orange hair?
Did you use purple or blue to cancel out the orange?
Ann Kumiko blue is for orange
manic panic
how long does it last?
sophia laird I suggest manic panic with a mix of a good "white conditioner" (ALL natural) with manic panic it really depends on how many tines a week you wash it..I only wash my hair once a week (I do not have OILY hair) so it lasts me over a month..
I suggest manic panic (no chemicals, cheaper then this) only get it mixed up to a lilac color..
Blue manic panic is for ORQNGE hair.
I honestly can't believe how well this worked! I have never DIYed anything hair-wise and was so nervous, but it worked EXACTLY as you said! I had recently gone blonde balayage and within a day or two it was yellow. I longed for the soft, healthy blonde look and I didn't have it in me to go back to the salon again after hours already. I am so stoked about being able to touch this up on my own when it becomes brassy again. MAJOR thumbs up! I don't ever remember being so excited about my hair before! haha Thank you Thank you!
OMG I thought I was doomed to never be able to have nice blonde tones in my hair as I have VERY hard water! but I did this last night and I LOVE how it turned out... was worried my hair was too orangey for this method (that I'd need something blue based) but I figured I'd give it a shot and it's almost perfect now! I left it on between 10-15 minutes.... I'm going to do it again in a week or so and I think I'll be head over heels. Not to mention that you are basically deep conditioning your hair at the same time so now it's SO soft and smooth!
Thank you for posting this video!!!
Yay!! I'm sooo glad it worked for you!!
I believe the blue tone is for yellow hair, and lavender is for orange hair.
@@LadySaundra No. It's exactly the opposite: Purple for yellow hair and BLUE for orange hair.
I have been searching RUclips to find the right method to tone my hair and I'm so happy because you made this video and answered all of my questions!! And it's a 3 step process
same for me
Tried this last night, and my hair looks awesome! Thanks for this great, cheap toner hack. I love it!
Yay! So glad it worked!
Durring my search I came across this video and it seriously saved my hair life!! My hair was very brassy and toners didn't help much but this works amazing and it's so simple to do also healthier for hair. It really does feel more like a hair mask. Just wanted to say thanks so much for sharing this with us!! :)
ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS HOW PERFECT YOUR EYELASHES ARE
Oh thanks!
I use manic panic purple haze instead because you use way less product and a jar of manic panic will last me probably a year or longer. I literally dip the tips of my brush and use a lot of conditioner till its lavender and it works amazing!
That's probably way cheaper in the long run too! Thanks for sharing that!
how long does it last? :) I'm thinking of doing the same!
ashleyliana1 I also use manic panic lavender, and lots of conditioner..works better then EVERYTHING and all natural no peroxide or bleeach5
Niki Gurle does it bleed
harley xene does it bleed? if you have highlights ALL lilac tints will bleed. You simply finger comb it onto the blonde-brassy areas. Use gloves it stains, and an old shirt. 😎
I tried the lavander, It is dark because I think I could had used less, as I dont have lots of her like her, but it is ok becuse I know it will wash out. What I love is thst this hair dye doesnt make a mess and doesnt damage the metals in my bathroom (I have experience with other dye hair). It saved me 120 bucks at the salon, and it is the easiest for sure!!! Thatnk you for trying and letting us know your trick!
Omg you are seriously a genius, I would never think to do this for toning but now I will! I've used Wella toners a million times and they never work for me, so that's always frustrating because I feel like everyone else uses them! Thank you so much for this video :) xo
Been bored cooped up at home because of this pandemic and thought I'd watch some hair videos... so glad I found yours. I'm gonna order some today. Thanks for the video... and I'm subscribing.
Yay! Thank you so much!
Thank you soon much for this video.. I used this method to tone my hair last night since I had an Ion Lavender lying around. my hair looks amazing! The Wella toners did nothing to my hair.
That's awesome! I'm so glad it worked for you!!
Mari Alicea how long does it last?
sophia laird I suggest manic panic with a mix of a good "white conditioner" (ALL natural) with manic panic it really depends on how many tines a week you wash it..I only wash my hair once a week (I do not have OILY hair) so it lasts me over a month..
I suggest manic panic (no chemicals, cheaper then this) mixed up to a lilac color, not too purple.
Blue, manic panic is for ORANGE hair.
Purple, is for brassy.
Thank you so much! I tried it a few months ago after watching your video and it totally worked. I did it again two days ago and used more lavender dye and left it on for a little longer and now I have some silver strands that I absolutely love!!! Once again, thanks!
Yay! So glad it worked for you! :) xx
I've never thought to try this, but it's brilliant. I will give this a shot!!! Thanks!
So obsessed with your hair in this video 💕
Thanks girl!!
I tried this today and IT WORKED!! I looooooove the results, thank you :)
I tried this a month ago and it turned my ends purple but toned the rest of my hair very well! Lol but I think I didn't use enough conditioner, so I'm gonna try it again 😊
I'm glad it worked!!
That product is amazing and I love their hair dyes because my hair color looks rich and shiny, soft and lasts a long long time. I've spent 200 dollars to have my hair dyed and it wasn't near as nice as as this Sally's product! Love it.
You are the best! Thanks so much!! My brassy hair is gone!! It's looks amazing!!
Yay! I'm so glad it worked for you!
You are my hero! I can’t thank you enough for this! GREATEST LIFE HACK EVER!
Thank you!!
Yayyy, thanks!! :) I've been wanting a video like this for the longest time!
This is great!! I've been using the Wella toners which are about $9 where I am in California, and it's frustrating when the tone fades so quickly and the product needs to be repurchased fairly often. I'm totally trying this next time. Plus I believe Ion is a cruelty free brand (not sure for 100% of their products though).
Yup! They're cruelty free! This is def my favorite way of toning my hair now! ☺️💕
what conditioner did you use?
Thank you so much this worked for my ugly orange highlights/ombré, I’m doing it again next month.
Just ordered mine because I have the same problem as you had. I hope mine turns out this good :) it's a very pretty colour :)thanks for the rec :)
OMG I need to try this!!
Yes!!
Thank you! It worked G R E A T. It came out a little warmer than originally, but I still love it.
Yay! So glad it worked for you!!
I just used this on my hair yesterday!! It's like a lavender color and I love it
Yay!! It's such a great product
omg I need to try this but I'm curious how long does a color last?
I'm not sure if it was just your camera lighting, but the conditioner you mixed in with your hair dye, if that was a yellow-tone conditioner, that may be a contributing factor to why your hair is going brassy faster. Any yellow-tone oils, conditioners, or shampoos(basically any hair products you use), will slowly turn your hair brassy if you're a blonde! If you're blonde and want to stay blonde, your best bet would be to get all white-toned products :) that OR purple pigmented products, like the hair dye!
It was actually green haha I just started using this green one and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. That's good to know for people out there who may be using yellow conditioners tho! I know they make yellow conditioners for people who want more warmth in their hair as well. ☺️
SO in love with your hair. Such a gorgeous color:)
+MissRileyGrace Thank you!!
Nice! What conditioner did you use? Is it any conditioner or something specific?
I did try a version of this. Using purple dye and conditioner. But I added a bit of the ion grey as well. And it turned my hair from blonde to dark browny green... Definitely do a strand test!!!
thats very odd to turn green :S maybe it was the grey that you added?
yeah i think it was a blue based grey and it reacted strangely.
Thank you.. I didn't know one could buy toner in the store, gonna have a look and try it myself.
I tried your method last night, and it was so easy and worked really well, thank you!!!! For me, I probably should have left it on a little longer, as my hair was more brassy than yours, so I will do that next time. Have you ever tried using the 'purple' shade instead of 'lavender' and just used a smaller ratio of dye to conditioner? Wondering if that would work equally well (as long as the final color that is mixed up is the same or, in my case, slightly darker purple to tone out more brassiness).
Thats awesome! I haven't tried the purple, but you could definitely give it a try!
This totally worked! Thank you!!!
Yay!!
Love how the color turned out for you😍😍😍
Anyway, is it okay to use the purple toner all the way from the scalp? As in the roots aren't too brassy but would it change the color into ash like the ends??
She just answered in the video
Great idea!!! I'll definitely try it!
Awesome trick or best practice! I myself would just use the shimmer lights shampoo but this method is definitely most needed, seems like it would work better... I have waist length hair so it can get pricey, but I'm gonna totally try this...😉😄💁
I just did this and it turned out soooo good! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
+awkwardriseofthesun Yay!! SO glad it worked for you!!
thank for ur video help me out with my brassy hair and worked!!!
Hi I'm a new subscriber(: I just watched your other DIY hair coloring and I'm thinking of going for that same color. Since then have you not bleached/done anything to your hair besides tone? I'm new at this whole dying at home thing so I need some help thanks!
It pulls orange because of the level. I have dark brown almost black hair naturally and I always use 30 vol when I bleach, it gets to the orange stage right away and then white on the next.
Aahhhhh I will try it! thank you! your hair looks amazing 💙😁 ilysm 😘
omg thank you so much! :* i just subscribed you're the best!
Yay!! Thanks!!
What type of conditioner did you use? Just any kind?
Such a great idea will be trying this
This worked for my orange-yellow hair, yessss and thank you!!
Yay! Glad it worked for you!
Loved the video as always! :)
I tried this and it works great
Thanks for the great tip!
Yay! Glad it worked for you! xx
I tried using Blue Food coloring mixed with White conditioner, but that didn't do much for my High Lifted orange roots. Do you think the Blue dye from ION would be more effective at cancelling out the orange tones?
how long does this last you before needing to do again?
can I use a permanent hair dye lavender as a toner with conditioner..?
MultiB I was wondering the same thing. Anyone know?
can you tone your hair after coloring it? or should you wait a few days before toning it?
Hi. Did you use the permanent or semi permanent?
!!! thank you for this video !!!
Yes you can totally use hair color for toners..& I use wella toners & they last 6-8 months until my next foil .. Geez I've never heard of them washing completely out of someone's hair.
Question: I just did my hair balayage yesterday and today. When can I tone it? It turned out brassy.
i just came across this video because my hair has an orange brassiness to it and i’m going on vacation next week and need to fix it. would the lavender be good or should i do more of a blue?
I'd recommend just using the Manic Panic violet dye and mixing some with conditioner. It should work just fine!
And does the conditioner tone the dark part of your hair? Just making sure mine is really brassy too but I bleached my higher up
I want to go blonde ahh!!l!💕💕💕
Do you think this would work better than purple shampoo? I just got highlights like pretty heavy highlights and it's the first time it's ever been a little yellow by The Roots the rest of my hair is okay but it's mostly by the roots. Bought Lanza purple shampoo and it did nothing for the part that was brassy. And the part that actually looked good are now lavender :(
Did you saturate your hair with that whole mixture or put it in a bottle?
This might be a stupid question but does it bleed blue or purple?
my forever inspiration ❤❤
💕💕💕
how long do you need to wait after coloring hair to use this correcting method. ?? is it safe do after 2 days?
I just tried this with the color Azure on my orange hair and it turned blue-ish green. I'm sad lol. It looks hella ugly now. I'm dye my hair back to brown
Do you wash it out with shampoo or just rinse it out?
And does it work better with dirty hair?
It works better on dry clean hair so you just rince it out. The more you wash it the more it's gonna fade!
Just bought the color, trying it now!!!! YAY!!! Will let you know how it works:)
+MSABEAUTY X Yay!!
How did it turn out?
I've totally been meaning to comment back on this video to talk about my experience - basically, it worked AMAZINGLY. My hair was a little darker than hers and a little more on the brassy/orange side but let me tell you, MY HAIR HAD BARELY ANY OUNCE OF WARMTH IN IT. Ive tried everything! And nothing kept out the brassiness for long or even took the brassiness away. Its been a while and hair still looks great, not purple at all either! AMAZING!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! LIFE CHANGER! MY stylist is even surprised, we've tried it all. trust me! :)
+MSABEAUTY X awesome!!! Finally! Lol
I tried this too but I guess I left it longer on my ends (lighter) so they turned silvery/purplish lol
It worked great tho but some parts are still brassy. Better than before tho lol
I saw another video that you can use grey dye as well! I might try that next :)
Aww YAY! I'm so glad this method has worked for you guys!!
is it going to work with orange-red-ginger color brassy hair too?
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! ❤️
Thank you for watching!!
I'm just curious, how long does the wella toner last for you vs. this method?
Can we use it with any type of conditioner ?
How long does this last until you need to tone again?
Do you think this toner will work on orange hair ?
Fabiola Mendez try a blue dye instead of purple, purple cancels out yellow tones it does nothing for orange hair, blue cancels out orange
from ion there are 4 blue colors: azure blue, aqua, shark blue and sky blue. which one would be the best to use to combat orange hair?
xxlove2107xx i actually never used ion colors but i would say sky blue, if you want a quick fix to orange hair try the Revlon box dye in the shade dark ash blonde 60, thats what worked for me the best!
xxlove2107xx do not use blue! I made that mistake and got green hair. If you use too much your hair will be blue, if you use too little it will be green. Also, it's been a month and I still have trace amounts of green.
I just tried this method, left for 20 minutes and some strands look good but some are a shade of green. Not sure why it didn't work out for me.😕
can you tone it to a darker color? and does it fade?
Can u use any brand of purple hair dye ?
Thanks worked for me!
So I tried this today and am a bit disappointed. The orange/yellow is gone, but now my blonde is basically is a light purple/gray and doesn't look natural. I would say you might want to add a disclaimer about the tone of blonde hair you already have, yours is a darker blonde so for you, it seemed to work. Maybe recommend a 3-to-1 ratio? Thank goodness it washes out!
Thanks for the video!! I was wondering if it would work on bleached hair? I just recently bleached it from brown and it had turned a yellowy brassy shade - Like really yellow. Should I tone it using this method? Anyone have any suggestions?
+Mel Smith This method works best on bleached hair haha if it's super light though it might turn purple so if you do it, just don't leave it on for too long. Or just add less of the dye. :)
Can you please type up the full name of the product in the description bar? There's so many types under that product line. Thanks! :)
+babiixshirleyyy Yup! Just did. :)
So you put the lavender hair dye product mixed with conditioner? What conditioner would you use
You could use any one you want! :)
This worked great .....the only downside it just didn't last
My hair is dark dark brown but I dye it blonde and I really need to redo my roots. Would this dye work without turning my hair orange? Or would it turn my dark brown hair purple instead of blonde like I want it to?
This wouldn't do anything to your dark brown hair ☺️
Hi, where can i buy it? Thank you
Love the Wella toner but they don't last that long
You saved me! Thank you.
Thanks for your recommendation. so I did my hair bleached it be came orange color as I expected. as i told you i want platinum gray, more likely blue..Do you think I can use punky color "platinum toner" with conditioner or 20 developer?
what color would you expected if stop here doing more bleaching it and get the toner now?
I used ION's Titanium Semi Permanent Dye(which is blue based) with 2 parts White Conditioner but it didn't do too much for my roots since they are too dark and I only left on for less than 5 minutes. However, the rest of my hair was toned really nicely. I'm sure that if I used a high lift on my roots then toned it for 20 minutes with the Titanium Dye, it would look pretty awesome. I will be doing that in a couple of weeks.
Thank you!
Unfortunately, The titanium didn't work for me after the High Lift. Will try the Blue Dye next. :(
Is this product like the directions? :)
Garnier fructis has a purple hair mask that you leave in for five minutes
what's the name of it?
Is this the permanent or Demi?
Wish me luck!! I am desperate! I was an a Professional Styles and she didn't do a good job.
How often you do this ?..
Does it matter what type of conditioner you use? And what kind did you use in this video?
Yeah, what conditioner did you use?
doesn't matter! you can use any conditioner!
you can use any conditioner! :)
did you go to sallys in new west??Do you need some sort of membership to buy semi permanent hair colour?
+achan_ Hey! You can buy any product at Sally's without a membership. That's where I got mine but you can buy it at any Sally's!
Do you use any type of conditioner to mix it it with the dye?
Yes any conditioner should work fine
You could just use a purple shampoo and then you won't have the issue of needing to tone
I need help!! I did this and my hair ended up becoming a much darker, muted blonde. It looks more like a dark brownish blonde where as before it was a more yellowy blonde that just needed some toner. Is there any way to reverse what the lavender color mixed with conditioner did to my hair?
it will start to fade after like 2 washes. if you only left it on for a bit, it shouldn't take long to die down. Also, anything that deposits color like a dye, is going to make the color slightly darker, as does most toners for brassy/orange hair.
Good to know! Thanks :)) I've washed it once with clarifying shampoo & also "chelated" it which helped get rid of the darkness and my blonde ended up being brighter and more toned than before. Thanks for your help!
Oh that's awesome!! So glad it worked out!!
Dont work for me😢
