@Contrariando Contra Yep, Senna was a faster driver than Prost, no doubt about it, a pure speed talent.
Prost was more of a "better" driver in the way that he was more conservative, pure, etc. (that's why he's considered not as "the greatest" or "magic Prost", but as "the professor"), and he must had some links with Ballestre, so politically he had an advantage.
BUT, you can't deny Prost's talent, that made him a really though rival to Ayrton.
And yes, in 1993, Prost had the better car, Senna made an incredible season, we know the story.
But in 1988, who's got more points ? Who was more consistant ?
      It was Prost.
See, that's the thing between those two : Two really different drivers, but during one season, everything was possible between them.

Senna did nothing wrong, he didn't gained any advantage, if something, he even lost more time. Not to mention Prost forcing that accident as he would have been unable to resist the pressure for another 6 laps. Basically, Senna gave Prost to taste from his own medicine, 1Y later.

I was lucky enough to witness these battles live on tv at the time. And although I was only 11, I seemed to somehow grasp that those races were the pinacle of F1.
Both were exceptional drivers - Prost a calculated and seemingly cold blooded pro, Senna, undoubtedly the most skilled of them all, although perhaps sometimes too much driven beyond reason in his unstoppable pursuit of perfection.
25 years after the Tamburello tragedy took place at Imola, Senna is still spurred on by millions of Brazilians and race fans around the world, capturing the imagination unlike any other F1 driver.
To this day, Ayrton's heritage effortlessly manages to embody the heart and soul of F1. Immortalized thanks to his charisma, racing legacy and legendary accomplishments, he shall remain forevermore, in my opinion, the champion of champions.

Well, he was Magic with a capital M.
Making his car dance to the rhythm of the samba on any track in any condition.
Yesterday, I watched the entire Senna documentary once again to commemorate the sad 25th anniversary of his passing.

Senna was better in qualifying and in wet conditions, while Prost had better racecraft than what Senna had, Prost was also better in conserving his tyres, saving fuel and taking care of his equipment than what Senna was. Prost is a talented and special driver. If we distinguish the careers of both Prost and Senna through arbitrarily Static means like numbers then one could argue that Prost was indeed the "better driver". Yet, Senna possesses a mystical, intangible factor, that in the end surpasses the capabilities of Prost and possibly almost every driver in F1 history...

    • @cavdragoon
      @cavdragoon 2 года назад +1

Though I agree with your statement in general when comparing the two statistically one has to factor in that Prost had 12 seasons in F1 compared to Senna's 10. So yes his stats show better, but he achieved them over a longer period of time. Had Senna lived Prost's numbers would have been easily attainable. Aside from that I think you summed up Senna's "it" factor very well. Regards

I'm a big Senna fan but he would've had to win in Adelaide as well in appalling conditions.
I think that Prost definitely turned in early at the chicane, but it was a VERY DESPERATE move by Senna and I'm inclined to call it a racing incident. I'm sure Senna wouldn't have opened the door for Prost. And he got a push start. That had to be against regs, amirite?
Didn't matter. Senna proved his superiority by taking 26 poles over two years to Prost's 4. More wins also. Both were great but Senna was better.

If it had not been for this political chore of F1, Senna was to have been four times champion in his career. In fact, the Balestre himself admitted years later that he wanted to harm Senna. @Crixus Mauperthuis" Le professor" is how they call Alain Prost. I was back then a fan of Prost, and i think its hard to say who was better. Prost or Senna ? For sure is that Senna had more talent. Prost always calculating the hole race. For this the name le professor. I think you can compare Senna & Prost with Al pacino and Robert de Niro. Senna like Pacino and Prost like de Niro. But ok its my opinion. But the true is most of ex f1 drivers and f1 experts thinks Senna is 1 of, if not the best f1 driver in history.

Interestingly, no accident happened between these both drivers which sort of proves that Prost had rather taken an 'unusual' racing line.
