Good video i put a led drop in in my dads 40 year old mag light. And its the brightest longest lasting flashlight ive ever had. They are awesome plus great for a weapon of last resort
My problem with the LED Maglites is the drop rating. At least with the early ones, the drop rating was 1m and you were lucky if yours actually met that spec. For the price and position they want in the market, they should be in the 3m to 9m drop rating space like the Rayovac indestructible lines. I shifted to the those when Maglite lagged on LED. Has their drop rating improved? I haven't looked recently.
Thanks for watching! I’ve dropped my led one plenty of times and while it’s gotten marred up a bit it still works great. Maybe I’ll do a drop test video in the future!
I like their Spectrum Series in warm white, (3000K with minimum CRI of 85). I have the WW Spectrum Solitare on the keys and a 2AAA on the desk. They both have excellent incandescent like warm color and smooth beam quality. They are all I need for real life use, I have a MS03 for a showoff toy. I run Imuto 1.5 constant voltage rechargeable lithium AAA batts in them.
I worked at a shellfish company dropped my mag in saltwater found it literally a year later exactly where I dropped it, had barnacles and a small creature attached but it still worked gave it a quick rinse and scrub and replaced the batteries and new led (new battery would have been sufficient, just decided to show the thing some love) … then left a customer review at the main website 10/10 would recommend!
I love maglite but I can’t find them anywhere anymore. They used to be everywhere but I literally can’t find any in stores around me. I worried they went out of business. What’s up with that?
I have used maglites for years as a millwright in a foundry nothing else holds up. When one time in 20 years I had to send it in and they repaired it. I did try another light and it was so bright it white washed everything.
Olight I3T is a 300 lumen light the same size as the solitaire for the same price. The MagLite 2 cell puts out 19 lumens while the Seeker Pro 4700 and the Seeker is smaller. Comparing a Model T to a current Ford Mustang regarding performance is dilutional.
The it3 is a 180 lumen on high light lasting 21 minutes. The Maglite 2aa is a 323 lumen light. The 2aaa is a 100 lumen light. Each lasts significantly longer than the o light. There’s still a place for the OLight but I think Maglite still is relevant today and leaps and bounds better than an iPhone camera light
My last maglight was a mini maglight pro led, loved that light, lasted less than a year, just stopped working, I messed with the spring, its DOA. Will probably be my last maglight.
I’ve used many flashlights and will use many more Maglite is my favorite for the money when I just want it to work. Good throw, regulates really well, good brightness, and good battery life
I like Maglite. I have a AA minimag led that has outlasted a lot of Chinese lights I have bought and used. I pull it out of the drawer turn it on and it just works. I bought one light recently that has kind of changed my views a little. It is a Thrunite Saber 659. I just grabbed it to try out off of Amazon because it was $11. It came with a 14440 battery that has USB-C charging built in but the light will also run on a standard AA in a pinch. I have grown to really like that utility. I kind of wish maglite would do that with their mini mags and allow the XL50 and Magtacs to run on an 18650 with AAA or CR123 for back up or just if you prefer that set up. I carried the XL50 for a while and really liked it until I lost it. If it could run on an 18650 I would have loved it. I go through so many batteries at work with my meters and testing equipment it’s nice to have rechargeable options in my flashlight.
I agree with you - while I absolutely love Maglite and think they are very well made, I really wish they would innovate more and bring some more options to the table and step up their brightness a bit for sure. Thanks for watching!
I have $20.00 Chinese made flashlights that absolutely destroy my old maglites in every way. So far been extremely reliable and even if they stop working, a new emitter or driver circuit can be bought for peanuts. Meanwhile, even an old outdated maglite switch is half the price of an entire flashlight, complete with rechargeable batteries
Just bought a new red ml300l 3D 746lm for 20 eur. This as an upgrade for my 1996 2D that I allready updated to LED years ago. I liked my 2D for having a proper light in hand. Have some chinese lights and also AA and tac mags but nothing beats a D-cell Maglite. For 20 I could not leave it there. I always wanted to be able to have high(er) lumens with the option to eco it down. I miss that in my other maglites. I like my purchase.
Your video made me go to Maglite‘s website and look at what in my mind is the classic quintessential maglite the two battery D cell model. As a surefire guy why does it have such terrible stats for its size and weight? At least it’s not expensive.
@@Outdoor_Prepperbecause they haven’t changed to newer and more technological efficient leds. Even an SST40 LED in a 3D cell maglite would put them eons ahead of where they are at! Whatever led they are using or are contracted to use is behind. It’s a shame because they CAN PUT better tech into their lights.
I've always liked MagLite's simplistic design. It just appeals to me. About a year ago I bought myself a Nitecore HC60V2 headlight for work. It felt a quality product at first but it started giving me trouble very soon. I felt like the on / off switch didn't always work as it should have and later on one plastic part of the headband broke while the light was in my backpack. I also have some other lights. Four of them are MagLites; MagTac plain bezel, XL200 (way too complicated and gimmicky), XL100 (still a bit complicated and gimmicky) and Solitaire LED on my keychain. They have never given me any trouble and the MagTac feels incredible well built and good in hand. I really love it. Money well spent. The Solitaire LED gets the most use because it's almost constantly on me when I'm awake. It's switchless design makes it perfect for every day pocket carry.
I use my Maglite 2D & 2AA at night inside the house and outside I use multiple newer Maglite LED flashlights…My favorite is my first Maglite , it’s the 5C-Cell incandescent I got in the early 1980’s I carried as a LEO, still works fine with the Krypton bulbs😂
Maglite is still a great light and will ultimately last longer than olight although I do absolutely concede that olight makes a really bright light! Thanks for watching!
Maglite needs to make a GOOD projector LED flashlight. I am all about made in USA or civilized countries. I hate the fact that the best flashlights i own are Duracell and Infinity X1 projectors. Maglite is nice because its made in USA but they suck at being flashlights. I need 1k to 5k lumens for the actual use cases where id whip out a flashlight outdoors. For everyday my 1990s Rayovac incandescent lights are good enough. I really wanna have a consistent projector beam.
I just took out my maglite the batter exploded. maglite was a great torch 20 years ago. but today it is garbage. basically you are trying to persuade people nokia phone is useable today when everyone is using iphone. I can spend $10 and get a basic mini Olight and it is bright and nice. Customer will pay for made in USA if it is comparable in quality and price. otherwise competition will kill the product. maglite is a great example.
A Mag Lite in hand certainly provides a distinct sense of confidence and nostalgia… like classic cars do. It’s foolish to pretend that they still hold a candle to modern flashlights. Any feature of a mag lite can be found in another company and also executed better. Their classic design, simple interface, and robust construction aren’t enough to keep them relevant unfortunately. My incandescent solitaire is truly a relic of the past. It will be helpful in showing my son what it was like, though!
Sir prepare to be dismantled Maglites are the best value They have excellent led drivers, competitive throw, and they are still manufactured in the US They have a stupid simple UI and really good battery life
@@jaredbryant8297 If your priority is sheer value and made in the USA, then I agree that Maglite is your best bet. Malkoff Devices makes some of the best flashlights in the USA in my opinion. I don't see why Maglite doesn't follow that recipe, since they certainly have the resources to do so. It reminds me of Casio in a way. There is no good reason that they can't produce a watch that competes with the Garmin Fenix, but they just refuse to do so. No… especially if your job requires a constant source of light. Then the old saying goes, ; 2 is 1/ 1 is NONE. You lose your phone over the boat in heavy oceanic swells you… are… Screwed 😂
You simply wont find a chinese light as reliable or durable as a Maglite. High lumen lights are just fun. They arent actually very useful. Reason being is high lumens directly = high power consumption. Anyone that actually uses a light daily and for many hours would rather have an 8hr run time at 500 lumens then a 1hr run time at 1200 lumens. Not to mention how badly you screw your night vision when you turn off that 1200 lumens. Takes 5 minutes for your eyes to readjust so you can see well again.
I totally agree with you! Sometimes the tried and true Maglite really is the best and the cheap Chinese garbage with 5 million lumens really serves no purpose. Thanks for watching!
@@Outdoor_Prepper I loved my mag mini, that was my go to for a very long time. I had a solitaire get ran over by a semi truck twice and still worked, and that was on concrete.
No 1,000 lumens is not enough stop making up excuses to defend maglite because you know they messed up big time in the flashlight game an ideal flashlight needs to put out at least 3000 to 4000 thousand lumens tops and at least a 250,000 thousand candela rating.
I had a Nebo redline aspheric led light and after 6 months and a few drops it finally choked on itself and died. Then I tried a new type of light (back 2009) called “Sunwayman T20C” and the rest history 😂
