    Unfortunately, you really only have two options: NOS MB OE parts, or German-made NOS Lemforder mounts (basically MB with the star scratched off). You’re going to have a search ahead of you to find them, so it may take time. DO NOT buy Febi or non-Western-Europe-made Lemforder rubber (or anything else Chinese-made). You can smell the difference between “real” rubber and the cheap Chinese rubber.
    Febi and Meyle (pronounced “Mei-lay”) are primarily reboxers of Chinese-made parts, so are not an option.

      Sometimes you get lucky with febi. Gotten sometimes boge bushings with star ground off. I agree 99% anything Else than OEM with Bad. But unfortunately i have had My share of Bad luck with OEM also. Quality just aint same as before.

      @@jrt2924 There are a VERY VERY limited number of Febi boxed parts that are actually OE stuff. One prime example are the flex discs that they sell, which in reality are the OEM MB flex discs (made by SGF in Germany) that have the MB part numbers scratched off. I have only seen a couple of other types of Febi boxed parts that are OEM MB stuff.
      Meyle -- that is ALL Chinese junk. The rubber is oily and smelly, and is not truly rubber - it is an ersatz rubber. It has the exact smell that you are bowled over by when you walk into a Harbor Freight store in the US -- the smell of cheap, Chinese made faux products.

    Lemförder DE made engine & gearbox mounts here for aprox 35k km. No complaints, still running silky smooth.

    Hello MMWA.
    I use geniune Mercedes in all my cars, W124s and W140. They are more expensive, but it's a thing that you only change once in many years if they are of good quality, that the price difference will be diluted over the years.
    Lemforder was identifical to the original ones, but now they are "proudly" made in China. Unfortunately, and apparently, the quality is way down from what it used to be: the finish of the rubber and the metal parts, the smell of it, it's completely different from what a German Lemforder used to be.
    You can try other cheaper brands, sometimes you can have luck with them. For example, I know someone who had installed Meyle engine mounts on a W140, weekend car only, and it's fine...
    Kind regards

    I try to only use authentic Mercedes-Benz parts - but sometimes, they are just too damn expensive. The mounts I had put in my old SL320 with the M104 (129-240-08-17) are now up to $200 USD per mount 😱 $400 USD to do it right still isn't a bad price, IMO. I'm not sure what they would cost for your vehicle - or if they are even still available. I really hope MB steps it up on classic parts for the 124 - but not holding my breath there.

    Slightly unrelated but I’m restoring a 450 SEL 6.9 and found the company Roland Merz Ersatzteile could re-vulcanise the front suspension strut rubber top mounts which were available nowhere. Perhaps they have a solution for the engine mounts too. Like the W124 engines, the 6.9 engine mounts are long discontinued and I am dreading the day when the ones on my car fail. Similar to many other simple parts; once they fail your car is basically unusable. I do have some ancient stock engine and suspension mounts but rubber is perishable.
    Roland Merz are good people and have loads of rare parts, refurbished or manufactured in their German plant. I have dealt with Sascha there and she has been extraordinarily helpful.

    If you can still get Lemforder/Sachs/Boge (same company) for the 124, use them. Otherwise, genuine Mercedes. Lemforfer are NLA for some (all?) W140 models. For awhile, Febi was reboxing Lemforder mounts, but I don't know if they did that for the W124.

    • @gerryvanzandt7894
      @gerryvanzandt7894 5 месяцев назад +1

      You want to find the Boge/Sachs engine mounts that have "BBB" written on them in marker at the manufacturer. Unfortunately these are very difficult to find, and NOS units of quality are pretty much as rare as rocking horse poop these days.

    I believe the original mounts are Boge Sachs, I ordered Lemforder but since they were out of stock i ended up with meyle they seem fine but i still have vibration but more likely due to a misfire when warm. There are two shapes available, the spherical ones as well as the ribbed which are interchangable. Keep in mind that similarly to springs, motor mounts have color codes with different dampening properties ( AC/ no AC for instance )

    I've had my corteco engine mounts for about 80k km/4 years now, daily driven in rain, snow, and salty roads. No ruptures or cracks in the rubber so far. '95 E250d. Anyways, probably go for Lemförder (Made in germany ones, not the chinese ones..). Might be worth to look at the transmission mount while youre at it

      My Corteco (601411) mounts are also still going strong, had them on the 190d om601 for 50 k km and 4 years. I believe I have a slightly firmer/robust version engine mount - designed for a bit more engine aggregates/cylinders that I don't have. Having read some German forum posts favouring the 601411 over the 601410. Anyhow, keeping the close-by diesel hoses and thermostat leak-free for optimum motor mount longevity. Even though price is often secondary to getting the most worry-free uptime on the car - still, $65 bucks for two motor mounts with the performance they obviously offer, is not terrible at all.

    Not febi definitely,
    OEM as far as you can find,
    Second option is lemforder.
    I know OEM is extremely expensive in comparison to others but mine lasted 30 years, so it means its worth to pay.

    • @gerryvanzandt7894
      @gerryvanzandt7894 5 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, in the last 5 years Lemf has moved much of its parts production to China. And so we all reap the "benefits" of this ... while Lemforder reaps the profits of a cheaply made product selling for the same money as their old quality product. Laughing all the way to the bank.

    I pretty much ONLY use Lemförder or Genuine MB engine mounts on all my personal cars, and all my client's vehicles. Corteco is just fine too, if you can find them. The only thing is that I don't really think any are better than the genuine Mercedes Part. YMMV.
    One more thing, keep an eye out for Lemförder parts that are now made in CHINA. They've been doing that as of late and I don't appreciate it. I don't know for certain if the quality has suffered as a result, but I really don't care and I won't take a chance.

      I contributed to a post on PeachParts Diesel Discussion regarding a recent Pierburg Vacuum pump, where I found NO "Made in Germany" label (there were previously, on the older ones with enclosed bearings), but instead grew suspicious on the typical Chinese font used for the model number lettering. So yes, pitfalls everywhere.
