These Peterbilt trucks along with Kenworth w900 are the best looking trucks in the world.
May be not the world 😅 We’ve got Kenworth 909 and C509’s down under pulling road trains and triples. And they are some best looking trucks too. They are bit different to American setup so easily distinguishable and you won’t find them anywhere else but Australia.
Not every car or truck maker can make the same thing for 70years and still be desirable .

Nice one!!! Finally found exactly the info I needed. Not many of these rigs flying around EUrope apart from travelling circuses. I spotted before the difference between 259/379 and W900 headlight mounting, windscreen and other things but this was a really good detailed explanation. Thank you!!

Excellent comparison. Pretty neat how Peterbilt has kept the same look for so many years, and the major differences only come from small changes. Don't think you mentioned it in the video, but another major difference between a 379 long hood and a 389 long hood is the 389 BBC is 131" compared to the 379 127". The 389 long hood does look significantly longer than the 379 long hood. I could get into the short hood 379/378/357/389/388, but they are a whole other nightmare.

@@Bubbles8V92 hate to mess up your day, but in 1978 Pete had turn signals like the 379 ones on the headlights some of the trucks and not the round ones on the fender. They only came on the owner opp EDHD Petes with the first ones coming out in 1977 as a 1978 model.
That was the only year I know of them doing it on the 359 model trucks. If you can find a sales paper of that year, Pete, you will see them. They only made them for a few months like that and then went to the ones you see today. I don't know why they did that and I only saw a few of them while driving over the years. No telling what they would be worth today as they would be rare and I know that all of them had eighter a KTA 600 or a 3408 in them that I saw. Anyway another great video my friend.
I struggle to tell the difference between a 379 short hood and the 378 🙄
@@robertmoulton2656 378 hood and cab are mounted slightly higher off the frame rails than a 379. Also, I believe all 379 hoods were aluminum while the 378's were fiberglass.

I found a very clean 84 359 exhd I’m picking it up in a few days. Watching your videos made me want a 359 I’m sure I’ll have some questions for you when I’m restoring it

i saw a peterbilt 359 on 16-04 loop when I was getting on the highway I want to say it was like tan maybe brown but it had a Right Air cleaner and just a small one on the left (I think) and it was a extended hood too! i was super happy to see one in person but not up close yet..
Easy to tell booth on air cleaner and below windshield unique round curve
My dad always told me a good way to spot a 359 is the "huge steering wheel/hump in the dash where the steering wheel is". Not sure if that's universal but I have seen it a couple times.
78-87 ya, look for vertical wipers on the windshield
359 has Step on the hood fender.
Air cleaners are different.
Rims would also be different.
Good video, the 359’s had 3 different hoods. Short, standard, and extended hood.

There was a heavy duty cab option that did that but its mord common as a custom thing i dont know if thats factory
I have a 1985 it’s my profile pic and I want mine to look sorta like your 85 but mine will be its original colors before the original owner painted it dark blue and silver, It’s Gonna be baby blue and sorta of a darker blue like the truck at 3:15 or 3:16

How many stand up sleepers did they put on 359s I know a few had the sleeper like is on a KW but where Pete sleeper's

iv'e seen a lot of 379's but have never seen where someone made the air cleaner tubes look like a 359 model. Would like to see that. My 1994 model 379 ex-hd had the aerodynamic style muffler guards and not standard older round style. my 1994 muffler guards had a LONGER handles bolted to the guards then the newer 379's did.One wouldn't have noticed unless one owned or drove both of them.
Check out “denver truck painting” they have a 389 done up with those intakes

They’re pretty much all the same. All American over-the-road trucks are pretty much the same size and all run off the same engines and transmissions with a few exceptions
389’s hood is also about 6-7 inches longer than a 379.

Bubbles_8V92 mine is a factory tilt needle nose says 358 on the iD plate there are some that have the wide hood like yours but a flat dash like mine and are 358 so the model has as much to do with the dash and cab as it does the hood, in fact my 358 cab is almost a foot longer than the 359 and has much more room.
Yes they were Peterbilt's first tilt-hood. Basically just a 351 otherwise. They quit making the 351 and 358 right around the time the Corvette dash came out in '76 or '77, so you'd be less likely to find a 351/358 with the 1100 cab.
379 start In 89 to 90s , 2000s
